Bayern Munich could reportedly be joined by Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in the race to seal the transfer of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

The Blues are not using Chalobah much in their first-team, despite him previously showing some promise with the club after rising up through their academy.

Chalobah still has big-name suitors, though, with Sport Witness citing reports from Sky Germany and Bild that claim both Bayern and Dortmund are interested in the 24-year-old.

Chelsea will surely cash in on Chalobah if the offer is right, as it’s hard to imagine him working his way back into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans any time soon as there’s so much competition in this squad.

What next for Trevoh Chalobah?

Chalobah’s progress if he does move will be interesting to keep an eye on, as he certainly has it in him to have a good career at the top level, even if it’s not in the Premier League.

Chelsea fans may be disappointed if he does leave, however, after the improvement of players like Fikayo Tomori since being sold by the west London club.

When the best young players become available on the market, Arsenal have to ensure that they are in the conversation, particularly when four other clubs are chasing the same target.

The Gunners have bought well over the last few transfer windows, as Mikel Arteta and Edu seek to push the north Londoners over the line and win the Premier League title for the first time in 20 years.

Perhaps this season, more than any other, would be poetic for Arsenal if they could land the title, for it’s the 20th anniversary of the club’s Invincible season.

Since then, it’s been a long, hard road for the club to get back to the very top, but Arteta certainly has them playing in a manner which suggests that trophy success is just around the corner.

Arsenal now have a young and vibrant team with no dissenting voices such as Mesut Ozil or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the dressing room.

One gets the feeling of an ‘all for one’ mentality, and that comes from the top down.

The feelgood factor at the club makes it a welcoming environment to come into, and that may help 16-year-old sensation, Dino Klapija, choose them over Man United, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, all of whom are credited with an interest by the Daily Mail.

The American-Croatian is valued at £5m and would be one for the future rather than the present.

Newcastle United were defeated 1-0 by Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in their Champions League clash and one Magpies fan got some revenge.

Eddie Howe’s side lost by a single goal courtesy of Felix Nmecha in the first half and it leaves the Premier League club with a tough task to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

Following the loss, one Newcastle-supporting Traffic Warden wanted revenge for his club and he got it as he gave Borussia Dortmund a parking ticket as it appeared that their bus was parked across multiple spaces.

It is uncertain how much the fine was but the German club should be able to afford it.

The spectre of a European Super League raised its ugly head again earlier in the week with news that a judgment would be made on it during December.

No one other than those making the judgment can know which way it’s going to land, but it’s safe to say that former pro and now pundit, Stan Collymore, isn’t a fan.

‘No, I don’t think a European Super League is the way forward. UEFA particularly have bent over backwards, with concessions, more games, more money. If you have a European Super League what’s it going to be predicated on?’ he wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

‘It’s gonna be very, very difficult for clubs such as Villa and Forest, who have won European Cups in the past, Celtic too, to get into if it’s invite only. That will have a massive impact.

‘I could certainly see an example of clubs already owned by oil states or oligarchs or hedge funds, that are now spending €400m on players and are mopping up their domestic league, will just give a cursory nod to the league that they come from whilst going on and playing in the Super League.

‘Any attempt to start to be able to get momentum, however, should see supporters put their clubs under the greatest pressure to say their clubs must not, under any circumstances, enter a European Super League.

‘I think that particularly with the English clubs, if they were to say no again, we will never join the ESL because the whole idea would be dead in the water. There would be no European Super League that would be worthy of the name.’

Supporters came out in force back in 2021 when it was announced that there had been an agreement for the Super League to come into force.

The protests were almost immediate and forced the clubs that had made the agreement to drop out one by one and even go so far to apologise to their supporters.

Only Barcelona and Real Madrid are left from the original 12 clubs and their fate in the project rests in the judges hands.

Even if the ESL isn’t a going concern post-judgement, Collymore believes we’ll see a derivative of it because of the money that is now in the game.

‘Saudi Arabia, big American banks… the groundwork has already been laid in some respects. The pre-season International Champions Cup in America is their attempt at giving English and European clubs an insight into what potentially is possible,’ he added.

‘Come to America and play in front of 100,000 at the University of Michigan and we can make you richer than than you ever imagined. I could see a situation whereby the Saudis and the Americans, maybe even countries like India or China may want a little foothold.

‘Several entities will be needed to make it possible but just imagine if Manchester United are offered a billion pounds a season to play in any competition. The odds are that their owners are going to go absolutely yes because they then wouldn’t have to worry about whatever money comes into their club.

‘It’s a very persuasive argument.’

Essentially any organisation that has the money could effectively dangle clubs on a string and send them to all corners of the earth in the name of profit.

That’s a worst-case solution for many, who prefer the old traditions of the game which seem all but left in the past now.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe admitted after the Magpies’ Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund that the Premier League club were interested in signing one of their stars.

The Tyneside club were in need of a midfielder this summer and settled on Sandro Tonali, paying AC Milan a club-record £60m ($72.73m) to land the Italian player.

However, an alternative to the 23-year-old was Felix Nmecha, who coincidently scored the winner for Dortmund against the Magpies on Wednesday night.

According to GOAL, the German had been watched by Newcastle scouts for a long time and even made it onto the list of potential midfield targets that they drew up in the summer and Howe confirmed as such after Wednesday night’s match.

“He’s (Nmecha) a player that we looked at and really liked,” confirmed the Newcastle boss to reporters.

“But, yeah, he’s obviously a Dortmund player now. Was it a case of us getting someone else instead? It’s never as simple as that.”

Jadon Sancho looks set to leave Man United in January and Saudi Arabia is currently seen as the destination the winger will most likely end up at.

The Englishman is currently exiled from the Man United first team by Erik ten Hag following the pair’s falling out after the Red Devil’s Arsenal defeat in early September and it has been widely reported that the 23-year-old will leave Old Trafford in January.

Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have been two clubs linked to the Man United star but Laurie Whitwell is reporting that the Saudi Arabia route is seen as the most plausible option for the player in January because European teams will struggle to match his wages of more than £200,000-a-week.

Sancho has previously stated that he did not want to move to the Middle East given the fact that he is still only 23 but that may be his only option if he wants to play football during the first half of 2024.

The other option would be to lower his wage demands as climbing back up the football ladder should be seen as more important at this stage in his career.

The money will come back to him if he rediscovers the form he showed a Dortmund and that may go unnoticed by European clubs if he chooses to move to Saudi Arabia.

Borussia Dortmund have taken the lead at St James Park in their Champions League clash with Newcastle courtesy of a brilliant goal from Felix Nmecha.

The German side have been the better of the two teams in the first half in what has been a back-and-forth clash and deservedly go into the halftime break with the lead.

The goal came when Anthony Gordon lost the ball in the middle of the park and the tackler, Nico Schlotterbeck, went on a tremendous run up the pitch before picking out Felix Nemecha in the middle, who finished marvellously.

The German outfit have started the match the better of the two teams in what has been a back-and-forth game. The Bundesliga side are proving to be a much harder team to play against than PSG and Eddie Howe has Nick Pope to thank for not being behind.

The Englishman pulled off a sensational double save in the opening ten minutes and his heroics can be seen below.

Although the thought of a European Super League looked to have died a death, it could soon be back on the agenda of clubs across the continent.

That’s because a ruling is due to be made shortly, and if it falls in favour of A22, a European sports development company who are seeking to move the game forward, it really does put the cat amongst the pigeons as far as UEFA and all of its member clubs are concerned.

A broad agreement was made amongst a number of clubs in 2021, which included Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea, but it quickly collapsed because of the pressure put on all of the clubs across Europe by their supporters.

It was evident that, certainly in the form it had been presented at that time, fans wanted nothing to do with it.

Club owners were even forced to publicly apologise for essentially not reading the room correctly.

Journalist and CaughtOffside columnist, Ben Jacobs, has posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) regarding a recent statement from A22.

The words used could be interpreted as the company trying to put some outside pressure on those making the decision, though they’re hardly likely to be swayed one way or the other by that.

Were the European Court of Justice to rule against A22’s proposals, it’s hard to see how any Super League, in whatever form, could be resurrected at a later stage.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt scored the only goal of the game, to beat Werder Bremen 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

Emre Can managed to pick out a lovely through ball for Brandt to run onto, finding himself 1 on 1 with the Werder Bremen goalkeeper. From there it was all the quality of Brandt, chipping it over the keeper to calmly put the ball in the back of the net, and make it 1-0.

The 27-year-old has three goals in all competitions this season, making 10 appearances for Dortmund and totalling 755 minutes of football. The German international also has five assists to his name this campaign, four of which have come in the Bundesliga.
