There’s a long, long way to go yet in the Championship season, but if Leeds United are to ultimately get promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, one 26-year-old ace is likely to return to the club.

Daniel Farke is already masterminding an assault on the English second-tier’s top three, with the all whites sat just outside that at the moment.

If the majority of his players are able to stay free of injury for the most part of the season and Leeds can continue building up a head of steam, Farke has the nous and knowledge to be able to navigate the business end of the season with ease.

Indeed, the German’s experience at the sharp end of Championship football is likely to hold his team in very good stead as picking up points becomes more and more important towards the end of the season.

Assuming that he’s able to take the all whites back to the promised land, it appears that Max Wober, currently on loan at Bundesliga outfit, Borussia Monchengladbach, will be required to report back to the club.

According to Rheinische Post (h/t Sky Sports Germany), Wober will only be able to stay with Monchengladbach permanently if Leeds are still in the Championship in 2024/25.

In that eventuality, they will need funds in and so would, reluctantly, cash in on Wober’s services.

Liverpool could get the opportunity to seal the transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone in the near future as he’s open to a new challenge.

The Frenchman attracted interest from Liverpool and Juventus in the summer, though interest from both clubs ended up cooling towards the end of the window, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

Kone remains one to watch for January, however, as Romano admits there’s a chance he could move for around €45million, though he also stated that there’s nothing concrete with Liverpool, Juve or any other clubs at this precise moment in time.

It may be that the 22-year-old will end up receiving offers closer to January, though, so LFC supporters will surely want to keep an eye on his situation as he could be ideal to continue rebuilding their midfield.

Liverpool lost some big names over the summer, including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, so there could be room for further signings in midfield, even after they brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch in the summer.

Manu Kone to Liverpool?

Discussing Kone’s situation, Romano said: “Manu Kone could also be one to watch in January as it’s not true that he’s signed a new contract with Borussia Monchengladbach, despite reports elsewhere.

“Kone’s current contract is valid until 2026, but he could leave in 2024. We’ll have to see what happens, though, because at the moment there are no contacts or negotiations ongoing with any other clubs, despite interest in him during the summer.

“Juventus and Liverpool were two clubs who considered him as an option but then did not call again after August. So we will see in 2024 what happens, but the player remains open to trying a new experience, while his asking price would likely be around €40/45m.”

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in the potential transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone after first looking at him during the summer.

The Reds ended up moving for different targets on that occasion, signing four new players in the form of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left Anfield.

According to Daily Briefing columnist Christian Falk, posting from his account on X, Bayern Munich are interested in Kone, while Liverpool’s interest seemingly hasn’t gone away either.

See below as Falk claims the Merseyside giants are still monitoring Kone…

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool keep on prioritising signings to rebuild their midfield, or if they’ll move on to other areas of their squad next.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah aren’t getting any younger so will surely soon need replacing with more long-term options.

Still, Kone is a fine talent and certainly one worth keeping tabs on or else other big clubs are likely to be in the race for his signature as well.

Leeds are arguably still recovering from some serious upheaval during the summer, and it’ll be much deeper into the season before Daniel Farke can be judged on just how well suited he is to the position of manager at Elland Road.

His brief would surely have been simple enough; get us back into the Premier League at the fist time of asking.

The all whites certainly have a stadium that’s right at home in the English top-flight, if not a squad that could hold their own just now, but the latter will come in time if Farke is allowed to build without interference.

So often these days, the whims of a new owner/consortium has a direct effect on the first-team squad, and if 49ers Enterprises want success at the club, then they’d do well to listen to their manager, who’s been there and bought the t-shirt in terms of getting promoted with a club from the Championship to the Premier League.

One player he’s had to do without so far this season is Max Wober, on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 25-year-old appears to be settling well in the Bundesliga, and Rheinische Post (h/t Sport Witness) appear to have urged the club to turn the player’s loan into a permanent deal.

Were that to happen it’s unlikely to please Farke, even though he was the manager to send Wober to Germany in the first place.

Bayern won their previous Bundesliga game, beating Augsburg 3-1 at the Allianz, with goals from Harry Kane (x2) and a Felix Uduokhai own goal.

Liverpool decided to pursue other targets despite previous interest in both Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone, though they could still be players worth watching until the end of this summer’s transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Romano provided an update on both Thuram and Kone, and explained what went on with Liverpool’s interest in the highly-rated young French duo earlier this summer.

It’s been a pretty hectic window for Liverpool, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both surprisingly being sold, while Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left on free transfers at the end of last season.

This left the Reds with a lot to do in terms of midfield signings, and they’ve so far brought in three new players in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone

It’s not entirely clear why Liverpool didn’t make Kone or Thuram their priorities, but it also seems there’s nothing advanced with other clubs right now, even if Romano still thinks they could be worth keeping an eye on before Deadline Day.

“Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone attracted interest from Liverpool earlier in the summer, so what’s going on now?” Romano wrote.

“At the moment there’s nothing advanced or concrete, there are expensive players so it’s normal; sometimes you have to decide and Liverpool preferred to invest in different kind of players.

“It looks quiet as of today, but for sure they could be two to watch until Deadline Day.”

Liverpool are still tracking French midfield duo Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram as they look set to be beaten to the transfer of Romeo Lavia by Chelsea.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano in the latest edition of his exclusive CaughtOffside column, with the reporter explaining that Liverpool never quite reached an agreement with Southampton over Lavia as they knew Chelsea were his preferred destination.

Liverpool will now look for alternatives in the middle of the park, according to Romano, with the Reds still keeping tabs on both Kone and Thuram after links with the pair earlier in the summer.

Thuram has impressed in Ligue 1 with Nice, while Kone has made a name for himself in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach, though recently had a spell out with an injury.

LFC would surely do well to bring in at least one of these players, with Romano expecting them to make one more signing in that area of the pitch this summer.

Despite already strengthening with two midfield signings in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, it’s clear that Jurgen Klopp could do with more in that area after the departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“Lavia has communicated in a very clear way to all parties involved – Chelsea, his agents, Southampton – that he wants to join Chelsea,” Romano said.

“The decision has been made, and so Chelsea and Southampton have been in contact during the night. The Blues want to make the deal happen this week, and today will be an important day.”

He added: “Liverpool spent two weeks negotiating with Southampton, they had the green light of the player, but for Lavia it was only a possibility, it’s not like he was saying he only wanted Liverpool.

“Then when Chelsea entered the race they had a crucial figure in Joe Shields – he is one of the directors at Chelsea, and he almost created Lavia as a player because he was a director at Manchester City’s academy, and then a director at Southampton when he signed Lavia for them. Now Shields is at Chelsea and he is signing Lavia again, making a huge difference in this story.

“Liverpool will now move on to different targets. They keep following both Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone as they did earlier in the summer, but let’s see who they will ‘attack’ now. Of course they will try to limit leaks as it created an issue with the Caicedo deal and same with Lavia. It’s an open race for Liverpool in midfield, but for sure they will sign at least one new player in that position.

“It’s worth saying that, as of tonight, I’m not aware of Liverpool bids for Tyler Adams – there is a clause, so it can be activated any moment. Bournemouth have activated the clause, they feel the player is keen on moving there, and so I see them as favourites to sign the Leeds midfielder.”

Leeds United star Max Wober has taken to social media to announce that says he is leaving the Yorkshire side this summer after only signing for the club in January.

The defender will join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for the season as the 25-year-old wants to continue paying at the highest level following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship last season.

Wober joins many other stars that have departed the Championship outfit this summer but the Austrian only joined Leeds six months ago from Red Bull Salzburg as part of an £11m deal.

Taking to Instagram, Wober wrote to Leeds fans: “I’m telling you with a heavy heart that I’m leaving Leeds United for the coming season on loan.

“I’m forever grateful for the support you gave me from the minute I set foot on Elland Road. It really means a lot to me.

“I totally understand the disappointment with some of you. But for me, it is a necessary step to show myself at the highest level and to be able to secure a spot in the national team of Austria for the Euros in 2024. I can only wish the club all the best during the time that I’m away. I’ll be supporting you no matter what, wherever I go.”

One of the biggest bargains on the transfer market this summer is Marcus Thuram as the France international will become a free agent when his Borussia Monchengladbach contract expires at the end of June.

The 25-year-old is a very talented individual and is coming off the back of a season where he scored 16 goals and assisted a further seven across the 32 games he played for Gladbach.

Many clubs were interested in signing the free agent this summer but according to Matteo Moretto, Thuram is one step away from joining AC Milan.

The forward will sign a five-year contract at the San Siro with a signing-on fee above €10m. The Frenchman will earn around €5m a year without bonus payments as the Italian club gets set to welcome a new hero to their historic club.

Man United are another club interested in Thuram as Erik ten Hag is in the market for a striker this summer. According to Manchester Evening News, they reported back in March that United made contact with the Bundesliga star ahead of a potential move for the forward.

Harry Kane was the Manchester club’s top target but the England star now looks set to stay at Tottenham for another year. With Thuram now set to join Milan, it remains to be seen who will lead the line for the Red Devils next season as it is a position that could take Ten Hag’s side up another level should they bring in the right man.
