Things haven’t been going so well for Vincent Kompany and Burnley this season, with the Clarets currently 19th in the Premier League table with just a point.

Only Luton Town are below them in the table indicating the harsh realities of life in the English top flight to the Belgian’s players.

There’s still a very long way to go in the 2023/24 season of course, and Kompany will likely be hoping that sooner or later something clicks, and they can start making their way up the table.

Their task might have been made easier if they had been able to sign 25-year-old marksman, Dodi Lukebakio, from Hertha Berlin in the summer.

A fellow Belgian, Sport BILD reported that Burnley had made a £9.5m bid for his services in the transfer window.

However, he ended up moving to La Liga outfit, Sevilla, and, according to an interview he gave to Spanish daily, MARCA, it seems to have been an easy decision.

“When a club like Sevilla show interest, of course you have to listen,” he was quoted as saying.

“We then talked a lot. You don’t have to think that much because they are a top club and that’s what I want, to play to show myself, to improve as a young player. It wasn’t difficult to choose Sevilla.

Given that the Andalusians were bottom of the Spanish top-flight until their win over Las Palmas at the weekend, a game in which Lukebakio played his first minutes for the club and scored the winner, he might’ve been forgiven for thinking that his initial choice had been ill advised at best.

Perhaps now he can kick-start his career in Spain, whilst Kompany will want his side to kick on too.

Hello! Welcome to today’s exclusive Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe for the ad-free version and other columnists straight to your inbox!

Barcelona

Dani Olmo is set to be out of contract in June 2024. Leipzig are pushing to get new deal done and will insist again. Barcelona have a long-standing interest in Olmo but their focus is on other targets for now and nothing is happening with Olmo.

Xavi: “Julian Araujo is adapting very well. From next year he can help us a lot, I’m sure he’s gonna be good option for us. He is strong, powerful, positive and he has a very good shot from distance.”

Bayern Munich

Thomas Tuchel has made it clear where he stands on Benjamin Pavard amid doubts over his future: “He’s an underrated player. He can adapt at an extremely high level, defends with big discipline. He’s a top team player. He immediately got my trust and justified it. That should be a clear statement.”

Boca Juniors

The race to sign Mateo Retegui remains open. Eintracht Frankfurt want him but nothing has been agreed yet, not even on personal terms. Inter have already had approaches to understand deal conditions — nothing concrete/advanced with Atletico Madrid at this stage.

Brighton

The fixed amount to appoint Roberto De Zerbi is worth more than €10m and it will NOT be valid during the season, only in the summer — as De Zerbi didn’t want any distraction during the season. De Zerbi is fully focused on Brighton.

Chelsea

Some of Graham Potter’s selection decisions didn’t go down well with the Chelsea squad – click here for further details!

Chelsea want new head coach as soon as possible. Direct contacts with Julian Nagelsmann also today — he remains the favourite candidate with club’s project discussed.

Luis Enrique is also appreciated — he’d be keen on the job. No direct talks yet with Mauricio Pochettino and Ruben Amorim at this stage, but let’s see how this develops later in the week. No chance for Roberto De Zerbi.

Hertha Berlin

It is my understanding that Hertha Berlin are closing in on agreement to sign professional long term deal with Julius Gottschalk. The talented attacking midfielder (16) had four proposals but he’s close to accepting the new deal offered by Hertha.

Leicester City

Some options being considered for the Leicester job, apart from Rafael Benitez who has been in the frame since Sunday. Curiously three coaches on the radar share the ‘Red Bull structure’ profile: Ralph Hassenhuttl, Oscar Garcia and Jesse Marsch.

Liverpool

One of Liverpool’s main targets this summer will be Mason Mount for sure. Let’s see what happens with the future Chelsea coach, and if that could change the player’s situation… but Liverpool are following Mount’s situation and they appreciate him a lot.

Liverpool want a refresh in the midfield, so Naby Keita will leave as free agent; also the player is ready for new challenge, there are some approaches but nothing advanced yet. He wants to take his time over deciding his next move.

Manchester United

I’ve already said in February and also recently that Manchester United have sent their scouts to follow Kim Min-jae, but at the moment it’s not time for bids or anything as Kim is 100% focused on Serie A and Champions League with Napoli and doesn’t want any distraction. PSG also appreciate Kim but also in this case, nothing is advanced yet.

Despite reports of Manchester United wanting to sign a ‘no.8’ in midfield this summer, my understanding is that the focus is on a central striker, there is where they want to invest. However, it’s important to remember that the budget is not clear yet due to the club sale situation. Once the owners will be clear, we will understand budget, the main striker target, and also other positions to be covered.

Erik ten Hag heaps praise on Luke Shaw after confirmation of his new contract: “I think it is a good message. An England international, he is doing really well this season. He is a modern left full-back, but can also play other positions. He matches the standards we want to have.”

Manchester United want Harry Kane but have other options in mind as well because of their fear of ‘painful’ negotiations with Spurs – click here to find out more!

Napoli

Kim Min-jae is 100% focused on Serie A and Champions League with Napoli and doesn’t want any distraction, despite interest from Manchester United. PSG also appreciate Kim but also in this case, nothing is advanced yet.

For more on Kim’s future, click here to read yesterday’s exclusive Ben Jacobs takeover!

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia contract: “Please, stop to break my balls… his current contract was agreed just one year ago and it’s still valid until 2027. You find an agreement and you have a contract for five years, not just one. No issues.”

PSG

There is a new bid on the table for Lionel Messi. After a lot of speculation, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal have now made a bid to Messi. The player’s father Jorge Messi is taking care of things on the player’s side, and it’s a huge offer he’s being presented with – more than €400m per year.

After Al Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo, we know Al-Hilal are really trying to tempt Messi. We know Messi is currently close to becoming a free agent this summer, but he has a proposal to stay at Paris Saint-Germain. Now he also has this proposal on the table from Al-Hilal, but his priority as I understand it is to remain in Europe. He feels he can still be competitive in European football for a bit longer after a fantastic World Cup and a strong season with PSG. He wants at least a year and a half more in Europe, so let’s see if Al-Hilal can change his mind with this huge proposal, but it’s important to understand what’s going on with PSG and Messi as well.

Earlier this season it looked like Messi was close to an agreement on a new deal with PSG, there was a verbal discussion and it was positive, but then the disappointing season, particularly with the early exit from the Champions League, has changed things. The proposal from PSG is still there, but Messi has not accepted it because he wants guarantees on the sporting project – who’s going to be the coach next season? Who are they going to sign? PSG are still pushing for Messi to stay, but let’s see what happens.

We also can’t forget Barcelona – European football is the priority for Messi, and Xavi is pushing, calling and calling Messi and insisting a lot, but we are still waiting for Barca to make an official bid, and Financial Fair Play will be crucial here. They still have to understand how much they can offer to Messi, and the relationship with Joan Laporta will be important as well. The situation is open, the race is open for Messi’s future. We will keep following this incredible story in the next weeks and months.

RB Leipzig

Dani Olmo is set to be out of contract in June 2024. Leipzig are pushing to get new deal done and will insist again. Barcelona have a long-standing interest in Olmo but their focus is on other targets for now and nothing is happening with Olmo.

Leipzig director Max Eberl: “Nothing is signed yet. We are in very, very good talk: I told Dani that I signed here to win titles. I hope that at some point he will say: ok, let’s do that.”

Ilaix Moriba is expected to leave RB Leipzig again in the summer as the plans are very clear on that after loan to Valencia this season.

Leipzig director Max Eberl on Moriba: “I don’t want any player who doesn’t want to play for Leipzig.”

Tottenham

Some of Chelsea’s managerial targets could also be in the frame for the Tottenham job – click here to find out more!

Watford

Joao Pedro has had a fine season for Watford and is now prepared to get big move in the summer as clubs in Premier League and in Serie A are already exploring the potential conditions of the deal. His future will be discussed in the next months as interest is growing — Joao, expected to be part of the strikers domino.

I heard that Jude Bellingham is keeping a very close eye on what Liverpool are doing at the moment. I’ve been told nobody should think he’s a player that wouldn’t go to Liverpool because of the difficult situation they’re in. It’s the other way around – he’s actually the kind of guy who would love to go to a club where he can change their fortunes.

At Liverpool, he sees that the club is in need of him and that he can build something there, so that’s why the side remains an interesting option for him.

As you see in the Premier League, they’re not massively far away from the Champions League places but it’s important to note that Champions League qualification isn’t a deal-breaker for Bellingham. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt Liverpool’s chances!

Jurgen Klopp’s already mentioned in his interviews that something has to change and it’s clear, when you see the positions in need of reinforcement, Liverpool need someone like Jude Bellingham.

Everyone’s talking about Liverpool’s defence; okay, they’re not brilliant at the moment but that’s connected with the role Bellingham would potentially play in front of the backline. He’s one player who could offer a multitude of solutions and would have an instant impact at Liverpool.

He’s the captain at Dortmund and if he goes to another club he might be one of many leading talents – at Liverpool he would be a leader from the first moment.

Arsenal

Jonathan Johnson’s column: I know for a fact that, with some of the Premier League clubs who’ve been looking at Balogun, there have been questions asked about the level he’s playing at in Ligue 1, which I think is part and parcel of how the Premier League views itself.

I don’t believe he’s playing at an inferior level, so his numbers shouldn’t be discarded. He’s been very impressive, and I think a number of clubs in, say, the Bundesliga will be very interested in him. You look at players like Randal Kolo Muani and Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea, and they’re in that kind of mould, so I think there’ll be a lot of interest in him this summer. Arsenal, being the parent club, will have a significant say over his future, but I think he’s one to watch.

JONATHAN JOHNSON’S FULL COLUMN

Bayern Munich

I talked to Bayern Munich again about Guglielmo Vicario. Normally I have my ‘True’ or ‘Not True’ indicators for stories online. I asked someone from Bayern Munich whether there was any truth in the rumours and normally I get, perhaps, one cross back – this time there were five crosses! So I don’t know what Empoli’s president is talking about.

Hakim Zyech was already rumoured as a Bayern target before he joined Chelsea. His agent tried really hard to bring him to Bayern Munich and always tried to sing his praises in the year of Hasan Salihamidži?. There were talks but Bayern, in the end, didn’t want to buy him. The agent then gave Bayern Munich a new timeslot and said they had to decide in the next 48 hours, otherwise, he was going to Chelsea.

I know there’s no interest at the moment. There are usually these same kinds of games when pushing a player on the market but Bayern Munich isn’t involved in the poker.

Borussia Dortmund

Mahmoud Dahoud has a very difficult situation at Dortmund with the club unwilling to extend his contract. This is because he earns a lot of money at Dortmund; he had a five-year contract where he could earn €9-10m per year, last year he had a one-year contract worth €7m-a-year. It’s a lot of money for a player who isn’t in the starting-XI, so that’s why he didn’t get a new contract.

So, I don’t believe in all the rumours; Napoli are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment, Leicester City could be in the right range (but we’ve heard nothing concrete on that at the moment) in terms of the quality they have available but I’m not sure if they’ll pay the money he’s looking for.

It’s been an interesting week for Yousouffa Moukoko. Chelsea and Newcastle United were interested in the player, though there were rumours around the latter not wanting him due to the allegations in terms of his age.

Now, a German court decided that the media is allowed to report about that. Before, there were just rumours but now journalists are allowed to ask the question ‘is he four years older?’ So this is very interesting for England because the rumours had been there.

[Youssoufa Moukoko has 12 goal contributions in 26 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this term – (Photo by Martin Rose/Getty Images)]

In my point of view, I saw the document which says he’s four years older. It’s not been proven that it’s a true and authentic document but now we can discuss ‘is he four years older? That could be the case.’

I say that, at his current age, it’s not that important because he’s still young. If you give him a four or five-year contract he’s still the right age. Of course, it’s a question of education; how much better could he get if he’s 18 or 22, or at least 26/27 at the end of his contract? I think English clubs are keeping a closer eye on Moukoko and, in particular, this big question.

Dortmund are behind their player and, of course, were aware of the rumours. In Dortmund, however, they have to consider the fact that they could have the next great striker for the German national side (he was at the World Cup already and celebrated his 18th birthday there). We don’t have any good strikers at the moment, so it’s something to take into account.

There were always rumours about Bayern who had talks with the agent but were told ‘no’. I think it’s good for Moukoko that he’s got a new contract now and we’ll see how his development goes.

Chelsea

It doesn’t seem like Callum Hudson-Odoi has a big future in the Bundesliga. In the winter window, Chelsea had the option to bring him back to the club – that was the wish of Thomas Tuchel when he was the manager – but the side didn’t use it, so that says a lot about his education there.

Also, Leverkusen’s bosses are also quite disappointed with the quality of his performances. Last weekend, he had another chance in the starting-XI against Mainz and again didn’t make the most of it. I think, all in all, he’s only managed one shot on target at Leverkusen.

We’re quite surprised in Germany about the situation given how highly-rated he was by Bayern Munich. Hasan Salihamidži? internally called him a €100m man. They wanted him very much. The good news is they ended up with Jamal Musiala instead, which was a great story for them but not so much for Leverkusen.

At the moment, if he doesn’t improve the quality of his performances, it looks like he’ll be heading back to London. If you can’t play at Leverkusen, though, it’s getting hard at Chelsea.

Elye Wahi

Dortmund are out of the race for Elye Wahi, so the chances for the Premier League clubs are a little bit bigger. Dortmund always has a good argument up their sleeve of offering playing time and being good for development, so this argument is waved away. The English clubs can get in with money.

I think we need to keep a close eye on the player, as he seems a very interesting option. Perhaps he’s too interesting already now for Bundesliga clubs interested in buying him.

Should Tottenham replace Harry Kane with Elye Wahi if the Englishman leaves the club this summer? Let me know your thoughts below!

Frankfurt

In Frankfurt, the feeling is that Daichi Kamada will leave in the summer but the fans are desperate to keep him.

In Germany, we have a Nobel Prize winner, Benjamin List, who won it for Chemistry. He’s a very big fan of Eintracht Frankfurt and Kamada, and he’s trying to convince him to stay. He’s already promised to give his Nobel medal to Kamada if he stays at Frankfurt! So, every German tries to keep him.

Dortmund could certainly throw a spanner in the works having identified Kamada as a potential replacement for Jude Bellingham. BVB are currently leading the race, with sporting director Sebastian Kehl holding a meeting with the player’s agents, Roberto Tukada and Thomas Kroth. The contract on the table is five years long and offers a salary worth €6m-a-year.

Fredi Bobic

Fredi Bobic was the big favourite to replace former team manager Oliver Bierhoff at the DFB. However, since the ex-sporting director was released from his role at Hertha BSC, it’s gone a little quiet around Bobic and new names have come to the fore.

We’ve got the Euros in Germany in 2024, so we’ve got a temporary solution with Rudi Völler who’s the director of the German national team until the tournament. So we have time with the position we’re searching for. We need someone who can keep the rumours around the team quiet and that’s why Völler – everyone loves him in Germany – is the best man for the job.

But you also need someone for the future. They don’t want to decide now or today, but they are working on the process. It’s interesting for England because of the names on the list, who are world champions from 2014, one of them being Sami Khedira (who’s doing a job at Stuttgart) – I think he’s the favourite at the moment.

There’s another person you know very well in England: Per Mertesacker. He’s a man who could do that job, he has the experience from Arsenal.

The third one is Benedict Höwedes; he was completing an education as team manager at the DFB. I talked to him a few days ago when I met him and he’s concentrating on his family, so I think he’s out of the race.

50+1?

The investment company 777 Partners is about to join Fredi Bobic’s former club Hertha BSC. The Americans want a 75% stake in Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA. They will receive a first tranche of €50m from 777 for the deal. It will still be difficult, however, for the investor to have a say in how the business is run.

I got a call a few weeks ago from an English agent who has a group that would like to invest in a Bundesliga club. I told him ‘I think you can, but you can’t have a decisive say [in light of the 50+1 rule – clubs and, by extension, the fans hold the majority voting rights]’. Who would invest in a club where you can’t have a decisive say?

In England that’s a big difference. It can be great if you look at how Manchester City are doing but then you also see what could happen at Manchester United.

I think Uli Hoeneß, who’s still on the board at Bayern Munich, would say that it would be great if the Bundesliga was able to invite more investors and were to change this rule so we have more competition for Bayern Munich. But, in the end, he can say this very easily because Bayern have its rules that it’s not allowed to do this for themselves.

I talked to Uli Hoeneß after a show we were both working on and asked him ‘could you imagine 20 years before, United was a big role model for Bayern Munich, that you will be lightyears away from them?’

He said ‘no, I never thought that’.

You see what happens with investors – it could be totally transformative. But then, as Chelsea have proven, money isn’t necessarily everything. Bayern Munich have the experience of football players on the board and you see how important it is. So you don’t often need so much money.

Liverpool

Markus Krösche is very important for Frankfurt. He’s the next man after Fredi Bobic left the club and no one’s really feeling the exit as things stand; everyone was talking about ‘Bobic, Bobic, Bobic’ but Krösche is doing a great job in the sporting director role.

It’s a long-term project normally but if Liverpool were interested – it would be hard to say no. I heard in the club that Krösche himself hasn’t informed any of the bosses or anyone else that there’s something concrete. It could be that he’s on the list at Liverpool because he’s a man everyone in European football will be looking at, as he comes from the Red Bull school.

He previously worked at Leipzig and left because of internal problems. It’s always the case that things can get difficult when you have your vision and somebody has a different one.

[Could Markus Krösche (top left) be Julian Ward’s replacement? – (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)]

I’m sure he’s interesting for Liverpool. I don’t think he’s doing everything to leave Frankfurt because it’s also an interesting project for him. But if Liverpool’s interest becomes concrete, I’m sure they’ll talk. But it’s not so concrete at the moment.

I do think from the profile that it would be a good fit. Jürgen Klopp would get a German guy; he’s young; played football (that’s not common); I think he understands football very well, so he could be a good sounding board for Klopp. Perhaps you’ll get the next German but it’s not concrete.

The Athletic wrote he’s on the list and I think Liverpool wouldn’t be doing a good job if he wasn’t on the list.

Should Liverpool replace Julian Ward with Markus Krösche? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Manchester United

Fabrizio Romano’s column: I’m not aware of any contact between Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea were in contact with Pochettino last year when they sacked Thomas Tuchel, but i’m not aware of any fresh contact right now.

Pochettino wants to return to management and is open to all the options.

Pochettino has been unemployed since being sacked by PSG.

FABRIZIO ROMANO’S FULL COLUMN

RB Leipzig

There’s a big question for RB Leipzig over their ability to get Jonathan David given the player won’t come cheap from Lille. They need a player like him, of course, and the interesting thing to note is that both Max Eberl and Marco Rose also wanted him before for Gladbach when they worked together.

They want him but they have to see if they have the money. I heard that the player is ready for the next step but then you have to pay up – I know Lille are looking for about €40-45m, so this could be a lot of money for Leipzig. But they need a player in his position.

Timo Werner is having a better time than he was at Chelsea but he’s not the same goal-getter he was in his first stint at Leipzig.

? RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose on Joško Gvardiol (via CaughtOffside): “Josko Gvardiol will be a RB Leipzig player next season. He is happy here.”

Victor Osimhen

I can say for sure that Victor Osimhen was never on Bayern Munich’s list. It’s not just whether or not he fits within the structure, he’s too expensive; if Bayern can’t pay him, no other Bundesliga club can, which is very hard for Wolfsburg.

Most people don’t know that he played a very good U17 World Cup for his country, scoring 10 goals. Arsenal, Inter Milan and Fiorentina were interested but then he went to Wolfsburg, which was a big surprise, securing him in January 2017 for €3.5m but he didn’t perform well.

They sent him on loan to Charleroi, who then bought him for €3.5m. The rest of the story is that he went to Lille for €22m, then Napoli for €75m, and now Wolfsburg would no doubt love to have him back but he’s now in the hundreds of millions of euros.

They didn’t have the foresight at the time and now the Bundesliga is making big eyes and would love to have him back but now he’s lost forever.

Everton are set for a busy summer with plenty of outgoings as Frank Lampard looks to help resolve their financial problems.

One man who will be leaving the club is Jonjoe Kenny, after he turned down an offer to stay at the club (via Everton’s official website).

The former Everton right-back was officially unveiled as a new signing for Hertha Berlin on Tuesday, as seen in the tweet below.

Kenny came through the Everton academy and was born not far from the ground. A passionate scouser, Kenny had an affection with the Everton fans for being ‘one of their own’ and despite it not working out for him at the club, there’s no doubt the fans at Goodison Park will wish him well.

The English right-back posted a heartfelt message to his Instagram, thanking the fans and everyone involved with Everton Football Club.

Kenny has already spent some time in Germany, as he spent a season on loan at Bundesliga side Schalke. The 25-year-old needs a fresh start, and hopefully, Hertha Berlin can provide him with a platform to kickstart his career.

Since joining the Bundesliga side’s youth academy back in 2006, Nigeria-born Torunarigha, who also has German citizenship, has gone on to climb the club’s ranks.

Promoted to Hertha’s senior first team in 2016, the 24-year-old has gone on to feature in 81 senior matches, across all competitions, directly contributing to a decent 11 goals along the way.

Barcelona appear to have accepted that academy graduate Oscar Mingueza will not a play role next season as they’ve set their valuation for the defender, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet suggest that Mingueza, who has faded out of the first-team picture with just nine appearances in the second-half of the season, is not in the club’s plans for the 2022/23 season and with the youngster’s contract expiring next summer, Barcelona are working towards a sale.

Mingueza broke into the senior squad last season and made 39 outings in his debut campaign, is expected to be a casualty as the Camp Nou outfit look to accomodate eight new signings.

The 23-year-old, who debuted for the Spanish national team last summer, can feature at either centre-back or right-back and has made a total of 65 appearances for the club in his first two seasons as a senior squad member.

Mundo Deportivo report that a fee of between €5 and €10m will secure the services of Mingueza and reiterate that the club have no plans to extend the ace’s stay.

Mingueza started to be phased out of the team after Xavi replaced Ronaldo Koeman and whilst he’s shown plenty of promise, if there are no plans to extend the defender’s contract, then ultimately it will be seen as more viable for the club to cash in on the ace.

Mingueza has found himself on the first-team fringes in the second-half of the season.

It’s added that Hertha Berlin are keen on Mingueza, with the Bundesliga side first showing an interest back in the January transfer window, the same period in which the Spaniard rejected an offer to join Bordeaux in Ligue 1.

Mingueza has a market in Germany. In the winter window, Hertha Belín was already interested and the player manages a new proposal from a Bundesliga club. They value his youth and his physical ability. The best positioned in January, however, was the Girondins de Bordeaux who put on the table a specific offer that the player rejected.

Mingueza has also been touted as a makeweight in the potential coup of Ruben Neves for Barcelona in recent days, he may not be at starter level for the Blaugrana yet, but it looks like he’s not short of top-flight options across Europe.

West Ham United are on the verge of completing the transfer of Bundesliga star Niklas Stark this summer.

Stark is out of contract with current side Hertha Berlin this summer, with German publication Kicker reporting there will be no further negotiations between the two parties regarding a new contract.

This has led to optimism in West Ham’s camp, who are now set to sign the 26-year-old for free this summer.

The Hertha vice-captain will most likely have over 200 appearances in the Bundesliga by the time the season ends, showcasing his vast experience despite not even reaching his peak years yet.

David Moyes is in the market for some new central defenders, and Hammers News are reporting Stark will be the man Moyes goes for.

Another bonus for the deal is that Stark can also slot into defensive midfield, another position West Ham would very much like to add a player to.

Stark has made 193 appearances for current club Hertha Berlin, scoring eight goals and also adding four assists. While goalscoring is certainly not the main duty of a central defender, due to The Hammers diligence and high utilisation of set-pieces a goalscoring defender is a useful asset for Moyes and West Ham, a feature which the 190cm (6ft 2″) Stark can add.

Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing up Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino as they weigh up replacing Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

The Argentine has long been highly rated as one of the finest managers in Europe, though he’s not been entirely convincing in his time at PSG so far.

Pochettino has been linked with Manchester United by the Telegraph and others, but now a report from Sport suggests Real Madrid could rival the Red Devils for his signature this summer.

Ancelotti hasn’t had the best of times since returning to the Bernabeu for a second spell, and Pochettino could well be an upgrade, though it would be a huge blow for Man Utd to miss out on him.

Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp

Sport also mention Real Madrid’s interest in Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, in what would truly be an audacious move.

It’s hard to imagine that the German tactician would go for that job, however, as he wouldn’t have the kind of control or patient backing that he enjoys in his role at Anfield.

Liverpool fans could have cause to worry, however, as Klopp is also perhaps unlikely to stick around for that much longer after achieving so much in nearly seven years with the Merseyside giants.

So far, so good in the transfer window for Rafael Benitez and Everton, though with a week left of the summer window, there’s still transfer business to be done for the Toffees.

One or two current stars clearly feel that their future lies elsewhere, and we can be assured that the Spaniard and his staff will be working overtime in order to find interested parties to take those players off of Everton’s hands.

A potential new signing could be on the cards, however, it would mean that Everton would have to hijack any deal for Hertha Berlin’s Matheus Cunha.

That’s because it’s believed that the 22-year-old striker wants a move to La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid.

Matheus Cunha is a rumoured transfer target for Everton and Atletico Madrid

Sky Deutschland’s Max Bielefeld tweeted that Everton have made an attempt to acquire Cunha in the last few hours, cited by Sport Witness.

Figures of €30m are being talked about, though nothing has yet been signed with the Rojiblancos, meaning that Benitez still has a chance of persuading the player to come to the Premier League.

Leeds United have reportedly been handed a huge transfer boost in their pursuit of Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha.

The Brazil international has impressed in the Bundesliga, and has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent times.

Leeds were in for Cunha last summer but were quoted an asking price of as much as €40million, which put them off pursuing a deal at the time.

Now, however, reports claim that Hertha would be ready to accept almost half of that for Cunha this summer, with his transfer fee now more likely to be closer to €25million – far more affordable for a club like Leeds.

The 22-year-old looks like he has a big future in the game and it would be exciting to see what he could do at Elland Road under the expert guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

Zenit Saint Petersburg and Monaco are also named as potential suitors for Cunha this summer.
