Manchester United and Newcastle United have been linked with an interest in Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, but Fabrizio Romano has played these transfer rumours down in the latest edition of his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

Guerra is emerging as one of the biggest young talents in Spanish football at the moment, and Romano insists the 20-year-old is seen as an important part of the present and future for his current club.

It seems there is nothing particularly concrete between Guerra and Man Utd or Newcastle at the moment, despite the claims of the Daily Mail, though Romano says more than five top clubs have been scouting the young midfielder.

“Javi Guerra – A report yesterday linked this promising Valencia youngster with Manchester United and Newcastle, but as far as I’m aware there is nothing concrete,” Romano said.

Javi Guerra is being scouted by top clubs

“Valencia consider him key player for present and future so not something concrete at this stage. More than five top clubs are scouting him but nothing else yet. For sure, he’s an excellent talent with top potential, so one to watch for the future.”

It will be interesting to see how Guerra continues to develop, but one imagines it’s going to be harder and harder for Valencia to keep hold of such a talented young player, with big clubs clearly already monitoring his situation.

Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Corona has sent a clear message to any potential transfer suitors for wonderkid Javi Guerra, insisting they want to keep hold of him despite interest from the Premier League.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are reported to have taken a look at Guerra in recent times, according to the Daily Mail, with the 20-year-old midfielder clearly a top prospect with a big future in the game.

One imagines the likes of Man Utd and Newcastle would love the chance to get to work with a talent like Guerra, but it won’t be easy to negotiate with Valencia if Corona’s quotes to the Mail are anything to go by.

The piece states that Guerra has a release clause worth £86million, and that will surely be their asking price if they continue this strong stance of not looking to sell.

Javi Guerra celebrates a goal for Valencia

Discussing Guerra’s situation in the current transfer market, Valencia chief Corona said: “We are fully aware that we have a player with enormous potential for the future and the ability to perform at a good level now.

“That is why the club have decisively moved him up to the first team in recent months.

“It is not in our plans to sell him to any club.”

Valencia will no doubt be pleased to see such a top talent coming up through their academy, though they insist his emergence hasn’t taken them by surprise.

“For us, the emergence of Javi Guerra has not been a surprise,” Corona added.

“We have been aware of what he is capable of for a long time, we have been helping him and demanding more from him every step of the way, from youth level to the elite.

“He has to continue working in this way. We have to be cautious when making assessments about his level or how far he will be able to go, as he is a young player and has a long way ahead of him, but only he, with his day-to-day work, will determine where his limit is.”

The name of Javi Guerra is starting to become known across Spain and Europe as a result of the 20-year-old’s performance for Valencia and it has caught the attention of Premier League duo, Man United and Newcastle.

According to Marca via Football Espana, scouts from Man United and Newcastle are now present at every game of the midfielder, as they assess one of the rising stars in Spain. Guerra has a €100m release clause in his current contract and a deal until 2027, but the report states that Valencia are already considering giving him a wage rise.

There’s no certainty on whether either Premier League side have plans to move for Guerra, but if he continues this form, it will not be long before clubs across Europe start showing more interest.

The 20-year-old’s release clause will unlikely be met but the English clubs have the financial power to bring Valencia to the negotiation table with a strong offer.

Guerra is liked by Man United and Newcastle

Guerra has started this season on fire, contributing three goals and an assist across six matches – four of which were starts. In Valencia’s first game of the season, a big moment involving the youngster came when he was sent on by manager Ruben Baraja and grabbed a late winner away to Sevilla.

The 20-year-old has a bright future in the sport and it is easy to see why both Premier League clubs are interested as he would be an upgrade on the likes of Scott McTominay and Sean Longstaff going forward.

Former Man United star David de Gea may retire from football if he does not receive an offer to be the first-choice goalkeeper at a major club soon.

The 32-year-old left the Manchester club at the end of last season upon the expiration of his contract after 12 years with the Premier League giants. It looked like the goalkeeper was going to stay in the build-up to the summer transfer window but in the end, discussions broke down and De Gea left without the chance to say goodbye to Man United fans.

According to the Guardian, the Spaniard would like his next club to be capable of competing for major honours and if he can’t find one, he will consider retiring from football.

David de Gea is considering retiring

De Gea has rejected several approaches this summer from places such as Saudi Arabia as money is not a prime motivator, states the report.

Real Betis and Valencia are two clubs keen on the free agent, reports fichajes.net, but it remains to be seen if those clubs interest the veteran goalkeeper. This is a situation to keep an eye on as it would be sad to see De Gea retire at just 32.

David de Gea’s return to football could be around the corner as two clubs in Spain consider moves for the former Man United shot-stopper.

The 32-year-old has been pursued by several clubs over the summer with teams from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer having major interest in the Spanish star.

However, De Gea rejected those moves in favour of a return to Spain and an offer from his home country could be around the corner as Real Betis and Valencia are keen on the free agent, reports fichajes.net.

The veteran goalkeeper has been out of work since being released by Manchester United in June and has been training alone in order to keep in shape.

De Gea spent 12 years at Old Trafford but his decline over the last two seasons prompted Erik ten Hag to go into the market and sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

David de Gea is wanted by La Liga clubs

Out of the two clubs, Real Betis would be the best option for De Gea as the Seville-based club have a crisis of sorts with Rui Silva injured and 40-year-old Claudio Bravo only just returning from a lay-off, meaning the former Man United star could prove far more reliable.

At Valencia, the 32-year-old would find high-profile competition from young Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and is not guaranteed to be a starter every week.

It’s become one of the most unsavoury incidents in women’s football, but FIFA have taken matters into their own hands and suspended Spanish Football Federation president, Luis Rubiales, from all football duties for 90 days after his conduct in the immediate aftermath of Spain Women’s World Cup final win over England.

Seen by TV cameras grabbing his crotch in celebration, Rubiales also gave Spain player, Jenni Hermoso, a strong kiss on the lips whilst hugging her tightly as she collected her winner’s medal.

Though laughed off by the player at the time, she was eventually forced to issue a statement to deny that she had solicited the kiss.

Such conduct should have no place in women’s football, let alone when it comes from high-ranking football officers that should know much, much better.

“FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respect the integrity of all persons and therefore condemns with the utmost vigour any behaviour to the contrary,” a FIFA statement read (h/t ABC News).

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will not provide any further information on these disciplinary proceedings until a final decision has been taken.”

It’s difficult to believe that there’s any coming back from this for Rubiales, given that he really should’ve resigned of his own accord in any event.

Spain’s women’s team had subsequently refused to play under the president, so this first move by FIFA should be seen in a positive light.

More heads undoubtedly need to roll given that it’s believed there were also problems pre-World Cup between coach Jorge Vilda and many players, detailed by the Daily Mail, who also note that Vilda’s entire backroom team resigned on Saturday over the row.

Spanish football can consider itself in crisis on Friday night after Jenni Hermoso issued an unequivocal statement regarding the unsolicited kiss she received from Spanish Football Federation president, Luis Rubiales.

So strongly worded was her statement, that it really has left Rubiales nowhere to go, despite his protestations earlier in the day that he would not resign after a trial by social media.

The entire Spain Women’s squad, less than a week after becoming World Cup winners, have now gone on strike in support of Hermoso, and the player has made it crystal clear that she did not instigate nor want to be kissed by Rubiales.

Furthermore, the statement speaks of a culture in Spanish women’s football that is manipulative and created by the president himself.

If that were not enough, the England Lionesses who were conquered by Spain in the final last weekend, have come out in support.

Jess Carter posted the following on her Twitter account, as football’s very own ‘me too’ movement gathers pace and  puts incredible pressure back on Rubiales to do the decent thing:

The incredibly bad publicity around the world for the federation surely can’t be allowed to continue, and if Rubiales insists that he won’t resign, it may well fall upon his bosses to remove him from the position.

It isn’t only this one issue that will need to be resolved now either, because it has opened a can of worms that appears to have long been kept quiet.

Things have got much, much worse for Spanish Football Federation president, Luis Rubiales, on Saturday night.

Rubiales has been under fire since the Women’s World Cup final after he was pictured holding his groin in celebration at Spain’s win and then kissed Spain player, Jenni Hermoso, full on the lips as she went up to collect her medal.

His actions have been widely condemned by the football fraternity but he has, so far, refused to resign.

That could all change after news broke that the Spain women’s team have all refused to play until he is relieved of his duties.

All good things must come to an end, and the retirement of former Man City legend, David Silva, sees one of the greatest modern exponents depart the game he enjoyed.

Most recently at Real Sociedad, Silva also played for Valencia, Eibar, Celta Vigo, City and La Real with real aplomb.

A silky, skilful footballer, he was a throwback in some respects. What he lacked in physicality, he more than made up for with creativity and a beautiful touch.

His way of playing was akin to the work of an artist. Delicate brush strokes that built a masterpiece, and which will unfortunately no longer be seen in all its glory.
