After signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona on deadline day, it appears that there is still business to be done for Aston Villa.

Philippe Coutinho remains of interest to Qatari side, Al-Duhail, and it’s entirely possible that the Brazilian will move to the Qatar champions by the end of the day.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, however, another surprise deal could be happening.

The reliable journalist has noted that Keinan Davis, who it was thought might be moving to a Championship club, is set to undergo a medical with Serie A side, Udinese.

It’s believed that the link with Udinese is as a result of the club owners, the Pozzo family. They also own Watford, and Davis was on loan at the Hornets last season.

A move away was clearly expected by both player and Villa themselves, and saving on another wage could well help Unai Emery take a look into the marketplace in the last few hours.

Whether there’s enough time for the Spaniard to get any deals over the line that he desires will only be known after the window slams shut at 11pm UK time.

It isn’t clear at this stage if the deal for Davis will be on loan or permanent.

Today’s top stories:

AC Milan

  • Christian Pulisic will undergo his medical tests with AC Milan today and then his move from Chelsea will be official. All documents in place for him to sign a deal until 2027.
  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek: “Christian Pulisic will arrive in Milano tomorrow. I spoke to Chris, he’s gonna do great things here at Milan. Maldini told me they were impressed by my performances after Milan-Chelsea, I’m so happy to be here.”
  • Tijjani Reijnders is pushing to join AC Milan as the club have now submitted a new formal proposal to AZ: €20m plus add-ons. AZ asked for €25m after initial request of €20m fixed fee — Milan are confident of getting it done. Talks underway.

Al Hilal

  • Lazio president Lotito: “Al Hilal offered less than €50m for Milinkovic-Savic but I want for documents signed — otherwise he’ll travel for pre season camp. In 2018, I rejected €140m bid from AC Milan for Milinkovic… and I’ve no regrets about that.”
  • Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al Hilal, here we go! Documents in place between Al Hilal and Lazio for €40m deal. The Serbian midfielder will sign a three year contract and join the Saudi league side with Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly. Contract signing and medical still pending.

Aston Villa

  • Pau Torres is finally on his way to England as he’s been spotted at the airport prepared to travel to Birmingham. He will be unveiled as a new Aston Villa player on a five year deal very soon.

Barcelona

  • Joan Laporta on Barcelona signings: “We need to sign one right back and two midfielders to complete the team as Xavi asked. Xavi’s new contract? We will do it at the right moment, once we complete our squad.”
  • Barca president Laporta on anticipating Vitor Roque deal this summer instead of January 2024: “It will depend on the FFP, on the viability plan. There are operations that have to be done.”
  • Laporta on Ousmane Dembele: “I think he will stay at Barca. Xavi loves him and I’m big fan too. It’s true that he’s not gonna activate the €50m clause — we’re negotiating a new long term deal. We hope it happens.”
  • Laporta on Arda Guler: “We had an agreement with the player and we were ready to pay Fenerbahce €17.5m. But then other clubs like Real Madrid came in and paid much more — so we shouldn’t get into a bidding war.”
  • Laporta: “Messi playing again for Barca one day? It’s more difficult now so you should ask Leo… we all wanted to make it happen but was not possible. He’s always gonna be in top form, but I can’t expose myself by saying that he will play for Barca again.”

Bournemouth

  • Bournemouth sign Romain Favre, deal done — told medical will take place on Wednesday, then he will join Lorient on loan. Here we go! The total package is worth €15m, no add ons. AFCB very impressed with Faivre and they agreed on new loan to Lorient thanks to excellent relationship.

  • What’s going on with Dusan Vlahovic and Chelsea? Full details here.
  • Moises Caicedo confirms he’s open to accept Chelsea: “It’s a big team, that’s true. A very historic team and I can’t say no because it’s a very big, historic, beautiful team. The city as well is beautiful.”
  • Chelsea have asked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to return to training on day July 17 — as they did with Romelu LukakuMore details on those two here.
  • Enzo Fernandez: “I’ve sent text message to Paulo Dybala telling him to come to Chelsea. I hope he comes and joins us, let’s see what happens…”
  • Christian Pulisic will undergo his medical tests with AC Milan today and then his move from Chelsea will be official. All documents in place for him to sign a deal until 2027.
  • Official, confirmed. David Datro Fofana has joined Union Berlin on loan for the season, there’s no buy option.
  • PODCAST: Will Chelsea’s New Project Actually Work?

Everton

  • Medical completed and contract signed. Ashley Young has become a new Everton player. Here we go, confirmed!

Feyenoord

  • Arsen Zakharyan is on Feyenoord’s list for this summer. He’s one of players being considered with Feyenoord pushing on that deal. Zakharyan will be out of contract in 2024 and looks a big opportunity on the market after Chelsea deal collapsed one year ago. Ajax are also monitoring the player.

Galatasaray

  • Angelino to Galatasaray, here we go! It’s all agreed between RB Leipzig and Gala on loan deal with buy clause, now just waiting for documents to be signed. Personal terms have already been agreed because Angelino only wanted Gala, as revealed last week. Medical being scheduled.

Lazio

  • Lazio president Lotito: “Al Hilal offered less than €50m for Milinkovic-Savic but I want for documents signed — otherwise he’ll travel for pre season camp. In 2018, I rejected €140m bid from AC Milan for Milinkovic… and I’ve no regrets about that.”

Leeds United

  • Scottish talent Lewis Pirie will undergo medical tests at Leeds on Wednesday. A deal worth £200k has been agreed with Aberdeen last week. Pirie will sign until June 2026.

Liverpool

Manchester City

  • Manchester City are close to snapping up one of Manchester United’s most highly rated youngsters – more info here.
  • Despite reports, Julian Alvarez’s camp does not consider any loan deal as possibility for this summer. No chance. Also, Man City extended his contract as they are very happy with Julian.
  • Brazilian talent Savio has decided to join Girona, done deal and here we go. He will join on loan until next June from Manchester City, remaining into the City Group circle despite PSV and Roma interest. He will travel to Spain on Wednesday.

Manchester United

Marseille

  • Olympique Marseille are in advanced negotiations over personal terms with Iliman Ndiaye. An agreement is expected soon as a five year deal is being discussed and Ndiaye wants the move. OM will negotiate with Sheffield United about the transfer fee. Deal on, step by step.

Napoli

  • Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis: “The only club that could afford Victor Osimhen is Paris Saint-Germain. If Nasser Al Khelaifi wants to send in a bid around €200m… we wait and we see what happens. I personally think that Victor will stay here.”

PSG

  • Dusan Vlahovic is on PSG’s list, but how advanced is it, and what about Chelsea? More here.
  • Kylian Mbappe’s future remains uncertain – Ben Jacobs has the latest here.
  • Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis: “The only club that could afford Victor Osimhen is Paris Saint-Germain. If Nasser Al Khelaifi wants to send in a bid around €200m… we wait and we see what happens. I personally think that Victor will stay here.”

QPR

  • QPR are closing in on deal to sign Asmir Begovic as new goalkeeper on a short term contract valid until next June. A move to Luton Town won’t happen despite interest — QPR are on it.

Real Madrid

Roma

  • West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca: “Roma is my home. It’d be a dream scenario to have Jose Mourinho as manager. I’m sure I’d improve my skills a lot under Jose at Roma.”
  • Roma are set to sign Rasmus Kristensen, deal in place with Leeds United. Loan until June 2024 agreed on player and clubs side. Kristensen will follow Llorente as new Roma signing… coming from Leeds.

Sporting Lisbon

  • Sporting will officially complete the Viktor Gyokeres deal in the next hours. The player flew from London to Lisbon with his agent Hasan Cetinkaya by private jet yesterday. He’s set to be unveiled as a club record signing for €24m at Sporting.

Tottenham

  • Details of Harry Kane’s talks with Ange Postecoglou here.
  • Tottenham have been approached also by Real Betis for Giovani Lo Celso. There are 2-3 clubs in the race for Lo Celso but Betis are keen on opening talks in the next weeks, and Spurs have been made aware of that.
  • Confirmed yesterday – Manor Solomon is a new Tottenham player after joining on a free deal.

Udinese

  • Slovenian 16 year old talent David Pejicic has decided to sign a new contract with Udinese despite interest from many top clubs. Pejicic, born in 2007, is now expected to be part of the first-team squad for Udinese’s pre season.

West Ham

  • West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca: “Roma is my home. It’d be a dream scenario to have Jose Mourinho as manager. I’m sure I’d improve my skills a lot under Jose at Roma.”

Hello and welcome to another Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe for more exclusive transfer news straight to your inbox seven days a week!

AC Milan

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli: “Brahim has unique skills and I believe the desire would be to keep him. We need a strong striker to join us in the summer. De Ketelaere to leave or stay? I don’t know, we’ll see at the end of the season.”

Al Rayyan

Former Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim has just signed his contract as new Al Rayyan manager. Jardim has signed until June 2025, with the deal set to be announced.

Barcelona

Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste confirms: “Deco will be the new director, he will join the club and he will work together with Mateu Alemany.”

Deco will take the role of Jordi Cruyff, who is leaving the club.

Frenkie de Jong: “Feeling after the club wanted to get rid of me for €80m last summer? Well… you don’t know how things go. Maybe this summer it will be different again, but I feel good here.”

Xavi considers Frenkie as crucial player for his project.

Bayern Munich

Konrad Laimer has already signed the contract as new FC Bayern player, medicals completed months ago. The deal is 100% confirmed.

Speaking after RB Leipzig’s game against Bayern, Laimer said: “I can’t confirm it yet, but my contract is expiring and I definitely like it here…”

There’s no change to the situation with Joshua Kimmich. He’s considered untouchable at Bayern and there are no plans to negotiate for him this summer. Despite links with Barcelona, he’s not on the market as he is considered a crucial part of Bayern’s project.

Brighton

Brighton are now set to complete James Milner deal on free transfer — the club feel it will be done and sealed soon, despite the interest of other clubs, including Leeds. De Zerbi wants Milner and talks already took place. Next one: Mahmoud Dahoud, on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea

Despite rumours, Chelsea haven’t sent a €80m bid for Dusan Vlahovic, as of now. He’s one of many strikers appreciated at the club but no bid/talks. They will go for a new number 9 and they know Vlahovic well, but there are no bids or verbal proposals yet, he’s just one of many names on their list. Bayern and Manchester United also remain in the race for Vlahovic — but they’re still waiting for Juventus’ decision.

Chelsea invested €15m fixed fee plus €5m add-ons for Cesare Casadei last summer in order to anticipate three more clubs — they’re happy with his development this year. After a positive loan spell at Reading, Casadei has two goals and one assist in his first game at the U20 World Cup tonight.

Juventus

Despite rumours, Chelsea haven’t sent a €80m bid for Dusan Vlahovic, as of now, with both Chelsea and Juventus’ side denying this. He’s one of many strikers appreciated at the club but no bid/talks. Bayern and Manchester United also remain in the race for Vlahovic — but they’re still waiting for Juventus’ decision.

Massimiliano Allegri on his future: “I’m staying here at Juventus, 100 per cent — I’m under contract here. After that, it’s not up to me to decide.”

Meanwhile, Juve are waiting for the green light from Napoli to complete the appointment of Cristiano Giuntoli as their new director.

Liverpool

Liverpool want to resolve final details of Alexis Mac Allister deal as soon as possible to avoid competition; full agreement on personal terms is really close. Mac Allister’s plan is to leave Brighton early in the window, and the move could be done and sealed in June.

Manchester City

Erling Haaland after getting his Premier League medal: “Unreal, honestly. I don’t know what to say. It’s just unreal and I’m so happy!”

Talks will continue in the next few days between Ilkay Gundogan’s camp and Manchester City — new proposal will be valid until June 2024 plus one year as option. Gundogan has not rejected or accepted any bid as of now. Barcelona proposal remains valid. The race is open.

Hello and welcome to today’s Daily Briefing – if you like this post click here to subscribe to get it straight to your inbox five mornings a week, plus other exclusive columns from Ben Jacobs, Christian Falk and Jonathan Johnson!

Arsenal

It looks like an open situation for Mohammed Kudus, things could happen with him this summer. I’m not aware of anything concrete at this stage with Man United or Arsenal; but he always had the dream to play in Premier League so the situation will be one to watch in the summer.

It’s not been an easy loan spell at Crystal Palace for Albert Sambi Lokonga. Still, Arsenal trust his skills and his potential, but they want him to play. He needs to play. It’s possible they will discuss one more loan season, but this is something they will clarify with player and agent in June and not now.

Aston Villa

Emiliano Martinez: “Aston Villa, it’s massive club. I’m proud of playing for Aston Villa you know. I’m really proud. Staying or leaving? I love it here! I feel so good at Villa. I’m trying to bring friends to Villa, the Argentinians!”

Atletico Madrid

Here we go! Caglar Soyuncu has signed with Atletico Madrid – confirmed! The deal was agreed verbally in January and it’s now sealed as Turkish centre back will leave Leicester City to join Atleti in the summer as free agent on a contract until 2027.

Barcelona

Barcelona director Mateu Alemany: “We did not have any contact with Messi. He really likes to come to Barcelona — was here for few days as usual, but we didn’t speak.”

Bayern Munich

There is a lot of interest in Ryan Gravenberch – he is not playing for Bayern and he has confirmed he is not satisfied at all, he wants more minutes, and he says that next season it has to change. There will be a meeting soon between Bayern and Gravenberch, but from the club’s perspective, they want to keep him, and have no intention to negotiate for him to leave. There has been interest from the Premier League since January – Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal were all informed on his situation but it was not possible to proceed because of Bayern’s stance. Liverpool especially remain interested and had a direct conversation with his agent a few days ago, so they are waiting to see if the situation could change.

Ryan Gravenberch in action for Bayern Munich

Chelsea

I already mentioned in the last two months some of the names they like in midfield, including Romeo Lavia and Manu Kone. But the decision will be made with the new coach, likely to be Mauricio Pochettino. It’s not a two players race between these two, it’s something absolutely open.

There have been reports that Chelsea and Inter will meet next week, but that’s not the information I have. Nothing will be decided for Romelu Lukaku next week or in April/beginning of May. The crucial moment will be end of the season, Inter still don’t know if they will qualify to Champions League next season and who is going to be the coach; so would make no sense to discuss about that now between the two clubs.

Frank Lampard after a fifth defeat in five games: “We have to fight. Also, I’ve no problem with fans booing. I defend the players because I know they’re young players who want to do well. I’m supporting the players. I understand fans being disappointed, I’m here for a reason.”

Frank Lampard on Mason Mount’s future: “Contract conversations are ongoing with Mount — everyone knows how I feel about working with Mason. The bigger picture is something that’s going to become clearer in the next week — that will be the club and Mason together having conversations.”

Understand Marc Cucurella did not make the Chelsea squad last night as he picked up a muscle injury. The Spaniard could be out for the next 2-3 weeks.

Club Brugge

Club Brugge have completed the deal to sign Michal Skoras as new winger from Lech Poznan on four year deal. The contract was completed and sealed yesterday.

Crystal Palace

It’s not been an easy loan spell at Crystal Palace for Albert Sambi Lokonga. Still, Arsenal trust his skills and his potential, but they want him to play. He needs to play. It’s possible they will discuss one more loan season, but this is something they will clarify with player and agent in June and not now.

Inter Milan

There have been reports that Chelsea and Inter will meet next week, but that’s not the information I have. Nothing will be decided for Romelu Lukaku next week or in April/beginning of May. The crucial moment will be end of the season, Inter still don’t know if they will qualify to Champions League next season and who is going to be the coach; so would make no sense to discuss about that now between the two clubs.

Lens

Premier League clubs are entering the race to sign Kevin Danso in the summer after his excellent season with Lens. Discussions took place in England with his agents — following interest from Serie A and La Liga clubs.

Liverpool

Liverpool remain interested in Ryan Gravenberch and recently had contact with his agents. Bayern Munich want to keep the player, but they will discuss his future soon, and we saw last summer with Robert Lewandowski that, even if a club doesn’t want to sell, if a player wants to move a deal can happen.

Despite links with Kalvin Phillips, I don’t have anything on this one honestly at this stage. We said many times Liverpool want midfielders and will go for many midfielders, but at the moment I’m not aware of anything concrete on Phillips.

Jurgen Klopp on Fabio Carvalho possibly leaving in the summer: “I’d like to make all of these decisions with the boys before we talk about it. There is no decision in either direction yet. What I can say, is that this week he was exceptional in training. Fabio’s really outstanding.”

Manchester City

Erling Haaland has broken Mohamed Salah’s record. He’s now on 33 Premier League goals – the most for a player in a 38-game season. A total of 49 goals in all competitions for Manchester City this season.

Kevin de Bruyne has scored 8 goals vs Arsenal in 11 games — his most scored against opponent. How important will his superb performance be in deciding the title race?

Manchester United

I think it’s an open situation for Mohammed Kudus, things could happen. I’m not aware of anything concrete at this stage with Man United or Arsenal; but he always had the dream to play in Premier League so the situation will be one to watch in the summer.

United want to sort out contracts of players such as David de Gea and Marcus Rashford, but they have also not forgotten about Alejandro Garnacho. There is an option to extend his contract by a further year until 2025, this is 100% confirmed. They remain in advanced negotiations over extending this contract even further, there are still one or two things to fix, but he’s very happy there and they are very happy with him, so this is something United want to get done, for sure.

Newcastle United

Eddie Howe: “We haven’t seen the best of Anthony Gordon. There is more to come from him. We have seen glimpses of what he can do. I am really pleased with him and I know he will be a high quality player for us in the future.”

Eddie Howe and Anthony Gordon

PSG

PSG offered €93m for both Endrick and Estevao in December, but Palmeiras rejected. We will see if other clubs will enter the race for Estevao in the next months; he has a €60m release clause now available into his contract.

Tottenham

Ryan Mason on Tottenham job: “I feel ready for the job. I know I’m ready. I’m absolutely ready for this (interim) situation. We handled in well two years ago. Ultimately from my point of view I feel fine, I feel ready.”

Udinese

Official, confirmed. Brenner joins Serie A side Udinese on permanent deal from MLS side Cincinnati for $10m fee. Deal includes add-ons and sell-on clause. Brenner will join Udinese in July.

West Ham

David Moyes on Declan Rice future: “My hope is that Dec thinks West Ham is the best place for him to be — and if somebody doesn’t come up with the right amount of money, it will continue to be the place he is as well. The club have made that pretty plain.”

Good morning everyone, welcome to my latest Daily Briefing! Click here to subscribe to get this post ad-free and straight to your inbox five mornings a week!

Arsenal

Bukayo Saka has 10 goals and 9 assists this season

Gabriel Martinelli has 11 goals and 3 assists too

Both 21 years old, both big parts of Arsenal’s future as Gabriel has already signed a new long term deal… and Saka will do the same very soon.

Arsenal have never spoken to Orlando about Facundo Torres, never made any contact or bid. They just followed the player as they do with many players around the world, but it was never a concrete negotiation in January or before, and now he’s signed a new contract with the MLS side. I’m sure many clubs will keep an eye on his development including Arsenal, as he’s a great talent.

Bayern Munich

Bayern have reached full agreement with Eric Choupo-Moting to extend the contract for one more season. It was a top priority for the club since November and it’s now done, confirmed. The new deal is valid until 2024, with a pay rise guaranteed for the striker.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund feel the verbal agreement to sign Daichi Kamada on a free transfer is almost ready, just waiting to get it sealed as crucial step. A five year contract has already been discussed as Kamada wants the move.

Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City are still frontrunners in the race for Jude Bellingham. No decision made on player side yet, his father Mark takes care of the negotiations.

Manchester United appreciate Jude but their summer budget is still not clear due to club’s sale situation.

I’m aware Chelsea have also been linked with Bellingham in the past, but at the moment they are busy with problems with current players and coach, so at the moment I’m told Liverpool, Real Madrid and Man City are leading the race for Bellingham. Still, let’s see what Chelsea will do in the next months, it’s still March and the market starts in June so still long way to go. The situation now is Liverpool, Real and City pushing more than other clubs.

Brighton

Alexis Mac Allister: “At the moment I’m enjoying of my present at Brighton and I’m not thinking about the future. I would like my next team to be in the Premier League.”

Bristol City

Bristol City’s English talented midfielder Alex Scott (2003), one to watch as Pep Guardiola called him “an unbelievable player” after FA Cup game. There’s big interest from Premier League and Bristol would ask at least £20-25m for Scott. One to follow in the summer.

Chelsea

Luis Enrique is a top coach and it’s normal to see his name around for many jobs, such as Chelsea. At the moment, he’s not in conversation with any club yet. What I can say for sure is that Luis Enrique wants to return as soon as possible after the World Cup and he’d love to be back at work in the next months, he doesn’t want to stop.

Raheem Sterling’s rep Kelly Hogarth on his future: “Sterling has expressed no discontent with Chelsea, committed his long-term future to the new ownership this summer — there is to be no review of his position in the upcoming transfer window”.

Sterling wants to stay at Chelsea. As I said yesterday, no confirmation of interest from Arsenal, who already have recent signing Leandro Trossard and soon a new contract for Bukayo Saka.

Fluminense

Here’s Real Madrid most decorated player’s ever Marcelo, set for his new chapter as Fluminense player. Marcelo joined the Brazilian side on free transfer after his contract with Olympiacos was terminated.

Hull City

More on Xavier Simons deal. Chelsea are set to accept Hull City bid on permanent transfer — understand Chelsea will have sell on clause included in the agreement. Personal terms are also agreed between Simons and Hull City.

Leeds United

Leeds president Andrea Radrizzani: “We were so close to sign Cody Gakpo. It was done on August Deadline Day, done with PSV too. Then it collapsed because of Van Gaal. Van Gaal called Gakpo and told him to wait for because of the World Cup… then he joined Liverpool.”

Radrizzani: “We explored a potential swap deal to sign Nicolo Zaniolo in January — but it was not possible to proceed, AS Roma had no space available for extra-UE players. We wanted De Ketelaere — then we almost signed Bamba on Deadline Day, it was crazy…It collapsed and we anticipated Gnonto deal that was already in place for 2023. I’m proud of Willy, top talent but also an excellent guy.”

Liverpool

Leeds president Andrea Radrizzani: “We were so close to sign Cody Gakpo. It was done on August Deadline Day, done with PSV too. Then it collapsed because of Van Gaal. Van Gaal called Gakpo and told him to wait for because of the World Cup… then he joined Liverpool.”

Max Kilman has been linked with Liverpool but my understanding remains that a midfielder is their priority. They will also follow a number of centre-backs, but nothing has been decided yet.

Lyon

Houssem Aouar jokes after hearing Eintracht Frankfurt links: “Some people therefore know before me where I’m going to play next season…it’s great!”

Manchester United

Fair to remember Alejandro Garnacho was born July 1, 2004. What a season he’s having, what a goal he scored in the win over West Ham last night. Huge talent… and new deal with Man Utd in progress.

Erik ten Hag: “I would like to pay tribute to the achievement of David De Gea in securing 181st clean sheet on Sunday, setting a new club record, ahead of Peter Schmeichel. It’s truly outstanding accomplishment made all the more special by happening in a final.”

Tottenham

Richarlison has endured a difficult start at Tottenham, so what next for the Brazilian? To be fair on him, it’s not easy to join Tottenham and Conte and have an impact immediately, sometimes in football you need time to adapt to new system, new coach, new club… I’m sure they will try to protect Richarlison this summer and the investment they did to sign him.

Udinese

Udinese are working on a deal to sign Dutch defender Marvin Zeegelaar as a free agent to replace the injured Enzo Ebosse. He’s training with the squad and had medical tests, waiting on club’s final decision. The former Watford left-back would be happy to return to Udinese.

West Ham

I’m told Declan Rice has very, very good chances to leave in the summer. The project at his next club is absolutely crucial for Rice, he wants to win titles and to feel an important player, he doesn’t want a big club and then only sit on the bench… he wants to be an important player. I love Rice. In my opinion, he’s a top top player. I’m sure he will be a regular starter wherever he decides to go.

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Daily Briefing – if you like this post, click here to subscribe!

Ajax

It’s gone a bit quiet on Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus recently, and at the moment I don’t see Ajax selling their stars in January, not easy at all. Let’s see if some English club will move but it’s really not easy after they sold many players in the summer.

Arsenal

What a performance by Eddie Nketiah yesterday as his brace helped Arsenal to a 3-2 win over Manchester United! Despite rumours, he was not close to leaving in the summer – Arsenal were clear in the plan to let Folarin Balogun leave on loan and keep Nketiah. They have been very clear, Mikel Arteta was crucial in this process and they always trusted him, in particular the director Edu Gaspar. Now we can see the trust is paying off, he’s been in superb form to fill in for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal plan to hold a new round of talks over a deal for Ivan Fresneda after opening negotiations with both player and club side – Newcastle also remain keen on signing the young Spanish right-back, who is open to a move to the Premier League.

Let’s see if Arsenal decide to do something in midfield in the final week of the window, but at the moment I’m not aware of an effort to sign Martin Zubimendi, despite some reports in Spain. For now, Arsenal are focused on Kiwior and Fresneda, while Cedric Soares could leave.

Jakub Kiwior’s agent: “Just before New Year, he had a phone conversation with Mikel Arteta discussing many details… he was enchanted.”

Leandro Trossard’s agent: “Spurs were in contact with us for the last two weeks. But it was we want him, but wait this, wait that. Wednesday we got in touch with Arsenal – 24 hours later they had an agreement.”

Declan Rice is leaning towards joining Arsenal over Chelsea in the summer (Guardian)

Barcelona

Hakim Ziyech has chances to leave Chelsea in January – clubs are well informed including Everton and three more. Roma asked about him but it’s not easy at all because of the salary. As for Franck Kessie swap links, let’s see if Barcelona will move, at the moment it’s quiet but Barca and Chelsea are two clubs to watch this week.

Borussia Dortmund

Interest in Youssoufa Moukoko was strong. Newcastle had serious contacts and Chelsea spoke to his agents but the player was always keen on staying at Borussia Dortmund. He loves the club, he has great relationship with the fans and the coach Edin Terzic so decided to accept a three year deal.

Chelsea

Chelsea spoke to the agents of Youssoufa Moukoko before he signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. There was strong interest but he loves the club and has a strong relationship with the fans and the manager.

Everton

Arnaut Danjuma to Everton deal will be signed in the next hours — he had his medical on Saturday and his contract will be completed on Monday. It will be a loan until June 2023, with no buy option, as previously reported.

Everton are tracking exciting Sheffield United talent Iliman Ndiaye after his superb recent performances, but the plan looks to be for him to stay until the summer.

Manchester United

Flamengo are no longer a loan option for Facundo Pellistri, as far as I understand. Valencia are pushing for him, while there are also two Serie A clubs as possibilities on the table.

Manchester United will make a decision in the next week whether they want to send Facundo on loan or not.

Marseille

Ivan Ilic to Olympique Marseille, here we go! Exclusive news confirmed — OM are closing in on deal to sign top talented midfielder from Verona.

Details: contract until 2028, €15m fee plus €2/3m add ons. Final steps before it’s signed. Ilic will join in June, not now.

Newcastle United

Newcastle had serious contacts with Youssoufa Moukoko before he signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. There was strong interest but he loves the club and has a strong relationship with the fans and the manager.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United’s starboy Iliman Ndiaye is attracting interest from Premier League clubs after 10 goals and 7 assists this season. Proposals could arrive soon – also Everton are tracking him. Understand the plan for both the player and Sheffield United is for him to stay until the end of the season.

Tottenham

Tottenham are offering a loan with buy option for Nicolo Zaniolo; Roma only want a permanent transfer for around €35-40m for Zaniolo. So it’s not so advanced at the moment but it could change as it’s on Spurs, the player is keen on the move and Roma want to find a solution to let Zaniolo leave. Contacts will continue this week for sure. AC Milan are also keeping an eye on the situation.

Jose Mourinho: “Nicolo Zaniolo has asked to leave the club — but it’s not sure that it’s gonna happen. Current proposals are not enough. We only need a good proposal to let Zaniolo leave, and we’ve not received it. My feeling is that at the end, he will stay.”

Udinese

Udinese director Marino on Aston Villa and Roma interest in Gerard Deulofeu: “There are top clubs interested, it’s true — but nothing’s advanced as things stand. We don’t want to sell any player in January — but it could change, it will depend on many factors.”

Union Berlin

Danilho Doekhi, performing at top level with Union Berlin after joining the club on a free last summer. He scored two goals against Hoffenheim – Italian and English clubs are monitoring him for the summer.

Wolves

Done deal, official: Wolves have signed centre back Craig Dawson from West Ham, as “the 32-year-old joins on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Premier League side West Ham”, club statement confirms.

Destiny Udogie was identified by Tottenham’s scouts and Daniel Levy for once, didn’t hesitate; the North London side secured the twenty-year-olds signature in a deal worth £ 15 million rising to £18million. At this stage, Tottenham could do with some good news and specifically in terms of filling the creative void that has slowly but surely become apparent in N17. Udogie joins Spurs in time for next season.

I have to confess I’m a cynic when it comes to these youth player deals. They are routinely billed as the next big thing, without much critical thinking in the mix. However, Destiny looks to me to be the real deal. He really is an exciting player.

This tape is a compilation of all the boys’ smart passes from 2022.

What do you think, or have I lost my actual mind?

Good morning guys, I hope you enjoy today’s Daily Briefing – sign up here to get the ad-free version in your inbox every Sunday-Thursday morning!

Read on for today’s headlines, featuring the latest on Youri Tielemans and Arsenal, clarification of the Cristiano Ronaldo situation, and the truth about Manchester United’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham…

AC Milan

Olivier Giroud is set to extend his contract with AC Milan after the World Cup. New deal proposal will be ready in order to get the documents signed done as soon as possible. Giroud’s main focus for now is on the World Cup but he’d be more than happy to continue with Milan.

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli on Rafael Leao contract talks: “He’s really happy with us, it’s clear. Maldini and Rafa’s camp are in negotiations. We’re waiting for good news. He’s happy with Milan, I want him to stay.”

Arsenal

Youri Tielemans has not given his word to any club, yet. It’s still open and he will decide at the right moment.

Barcelona are linked to all the free agent players on the market as they always monitor the free agents market, but it’s not something advanced as things stand.

Barcelona

There’s been talk of Barcelona giving up on Youri Tielemans because he’s given his word to Arsenal, but that’s not the case. They’ll continue to be linked with free agents, I’m sure, but nothing is advanced yet.

Cesar Azpilicueta: “New Chelsea owners have changed my situation, they wanted to keep me at all costs despite contract situation — I told that to Barcelona. I’m sure Xavi understood my point. Also, London is my home.”

Bayern Munich

Gregor Kobel on FC Bayern links: “I did not hear those stories and that’s not of interest to me either. I play for Borussia Dortmund and we have big plans with BVB. That’s all I care about.”

Celtic

Josip Juranovic is attracting interest from many clubs after a strong World Cup for Croatia. Celtic are open to discussing offers as they’ve already secured a replacement right-back in the form of Alistair Johnston in case Juranovic leaves in upcoming transfer windows.

Chelsea

Cesar Azpilicueta: “New Chelsea owners have changed my situation, they wanted to keep me at all costs despite contract situation — I told that to Barcelona. I’m sure Xavi understood my point. Also, London is my home.”

Germany

Official. Oliver Bierhoff’s contract at the DFB has been terminated — he’s out of the project after disappointing World Cup results for Germany.

Inter Milan

Denzel Dumfries’ agent Rafaela Pimenta when asked on potential move to Premier League club: “I hope his value doesn’t increase — otherwise it will be difficult to transfer him.”

Hello guys and welcome to my Daily Briefing! If you like this exclusive transfer round-up, you can get it straight to your inbox five mornings a week if you click here to subscribe!

Arsenal

As we get closer to January it’s inevitable that we’ll get even more transfer gossip stories than usual, and one surprising one I’ve seen involved Arsenal youngster Charlie Patino being a target for Barcelona.

Honestly I’ve no news on Patino and Barca, nothing concrete as of now. I’m sure Arsenal are really happy with his progress and he’s really appreciated by all the people into the club.

Arsenal are still working on Gabriel Martinelli’s new contract. Talks are ongoing as a new deal for the Brazilian forward is considered one of their main priorities. Negotiations will continue as current deal includes an option to extend until June 2026.

Santi Cazorla on returning to Arsenal in the future: “Of course I would like to come back. I have to wait if the club thinks about me, if I can help in something – as a coach or a sporting director.”

Barcelona

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken publicly about trying to sign Luis Diaz before he went to Liverpool, saying: “We wanted to sign Luis Diaz, we were really interested in signing him and we even had talks with his agent. The truth is that we had just arrived at the club and we had financial problems. And so… Liverpool signed him.”

My understanding is that Barcelona had conversations with the player’s agents but it was never got to an advanced stage between the clubs as Porto wanted a €60m package for him.

There was also interest from others – Tottenham and West Ham were also pushing – but in the end Klopp and Liverpool’s plans made the difference.

Bayern Munich

There were rumours a few days ago of a secret meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes and Bayern Munich directors. I’ve been checking in the last 24 hours and my information is that there was no meeting.

Bayern sources deny any meeting – this has been the position for some time. They are happy with their attacking options, having signed Sadio Mane in the summer, and with top talents like Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and in-form youngster Jamal Musiala.

Ronaldo was offered to Bayern last summer, but there was no intention to sign a player of his age. He’s a fantastic player who’s had a great career, but Bayern have a different kind of project.

Let’s see what happens with other clubs around Europe, because Mendes is working on it and will continue in the next few weeks.

Still, for now, this ‘secret meeting’ with Bayern has been denied by sources at the Allianz Arena.

Chelsea

Part of Chelsea’s rebuilding job means they are tracking some of the best young talents in world football. Still, it could be a long process.

On Endrick, Chelsea are in the race along with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but it’s still too early as nothing is decided yet.

Endrick in action for Palmeiras

The Palmeiras wonderkid has also confirmed he’s now studying English: “But I’m not gonna answer about my future club. Of course, I’d like to play Champions League in 2, three or four years. I’m open to all the clubs, waiting for the best proposal for me and my family.”

Romeo Lavia was a target in the summer, but there are no fresh contacts yet after their August approach.

Arsen Zakharyan wants the move to Chelsea and they’re working to sign him. They have many, really many talents in the radar but now with new directors the decision will be re-discussed again.

Everton

Everton were interested in signing Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao during the summer, but have since cooled their interest. There are no talks ongoing now between Udinese and any other club.

Flamengo

Matheus Franca is a talent worth keeping an eye on. The Brazilian youngster is impressing with Flamengo, and I’ve seen some speculation involving a host of clubs – Real Madrid, Man City, and even Crystal Palace.

I won’t go into specific names just yet, but it is true there are many clubs following him in Spain, England and also Germany. Still no advanced negotiations with any club, so too early to mention the most likely destination or things like the price – but he’s a very interesting talent and Europe will be his next destination.

Everton are keeping an eye on Udinese striker Beto after an impressive start to the season for the Italian club.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), who claim that Everton are among a host of clubs to have watched Beto this season.

Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina, and Napoli are also reportedly keeping tabs on the towering striker, who also managed 13 goals in all competitions last season.

The report doesn’t suggest that any club have made contact with Udinese regarding Beto as it stands, but Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is ready to spend €30m on the forward.

Inter Line Up Udinese Striker Beto As Alternative To Gianluca Scamacca, Italian Media Report

Everton’s interest in Beto is understandable, with Frank Lampard’s side struggling to score goals so far this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has once again found himself suffering from regular injuries, so a new, reliable striker could be high on Everton’s priority list.

Similar to Calvert-Lewin, Beto offers a physical, aerial presence in the box. The Portuguese striker stands at six foot four inches, similar in stature to Everton’s current number nine.

With some big clubs in Europe also pursuing Beto, Everton may want to make their move fast in order to secure his signature.
