West Ham have been pursuing several forwards this summer and although Armando Broja and Gianluca Scamacca is are the headline names, the Hammers could be on the verge of a savvy pick up from Ligue 1.

South Korean international Hwang Ui-Jo seems likely to leave Girondins de Bordeaux this summer, with the French club suffering from extreme financial issues. As a result, the club have been relegated to the third tier, although they are appealing the decision.

Ui-Jo scored 11 goals last season in Ligue 1.

Either way they will be forced to sell and Ui-Jo has already had a bid £4m bid from Nantes according to Hammers News. That bid was rejected and seemingly West Ham have made a higher £7m bid. Citing Girondins4Ever, the player himself confirmed that the London side had been in for him, although obviously did not reveal the fee.

“I’m waiting. Nothing has been decided yet. There will be more details to give you depending on the club’s financial situation, at Bordeaux. It’s true that offers have arrived from Nantes and from West Ham United too.”

The 29-year-old notched 11 goals and 2 assists across 32 appearances and would certainly provide a cut-price alternative to the likes of Broja and Scamacca. In a season which will push players to the limit due to the winter World Cup, depth will be more important than ever.

Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui-Jo wants a move to the Premier League, with West Ham showing an interest.

That’s according to Football Asian, who claim Ui-jo will leave the French club this summer after they were relegated from Ligue 1.

The report claims West Ham are interested, alongside Schalke, Mainz, Porto and Marseille, but the South Korean wants a move to the Premier League.

However, the report does also claim that Armando Broja is a priority, so Ui-jo may not get his wish.

Barcelona appear to have accepted that academy graduate Oscar Mingueza will not a play role next season as they’ve set their valuation for the defender, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet suggest that Mingueza, who has faded out of the first-team picture with just nine appearances in the second-half of the season, is not in the club’s plans for the 2022/23 season and with the youngster’s contract expiring next summer, Barcelona are working towards a sale.

Mingueza broke into the senior squad last season and made 39 outings in his debut campaign, is expected to be a casualty as the Camp Nou outfit look to accomodate eight new signings.

The 23-year-old, who debuted for the Spanish national team last summer, can feature at either centre-back or right-back and has made a total of 65 appearances for the club in his first two seasons as a senior squad member.

Mundo Deportivo report that a fee of between €5 and €10m will secure the services of Mingueza and reiterate that the club have no plans to extend the ace’s stay.

Mingueza started to be phased out of the team after Xavi replaced Ronaldo Koeman and whilst he’s shown plenty of promise, if there are no plans to extend the defender’s contract, then ultimately it will be seen as more viable for the club to cash in on the ace.

Mingueza has found himself on the first-team fringes in the second-half of the season.

It’s added that Hertha Berlin are keen on Mingueza, with the Bundesliga side first showing an interest back in the January transfer window, the same period in which the Spaniard rejected an offer to join Bordeaux in Ligue 1.

Mingueza has a market in Germany. In the winter window, Hertha Belín was already interested and the player manages a new proposal from a Bundesliga club. They value his youth and his physical ability. The best positioned in January, however, was the Girondins de Bordeaux who put on the table a specific offer that the player rejected.

Mingueza has also been touted as a makeweight in the potential coup of Ruben Neves for Barcelona in recent days, he may not be at starter level for the Blaugrana yet, but it looks like he’s not short of top-flight options across Europe.

Former Arsenal FC defender Laurent Koscielny has announced his retirement from playing at the age of 36.

The Frenchman was a top performer for the Gunners for many years, and most recently played for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

Now, however, Koscielny has released a statement confirming he’s hung up his boots.

Koscielny also took the opportunity to deny accusations of racism against him.

A press release read: “Following the article published in the Sud Ouest newspaper on March 22, 2022, Laurent Koscielny was surprised, shocked but also saddened by the remarks made by one of the representatives of the Ultramarines 87 Group against him, which the press is now echoing.

“Without there being any ambiguity, he strongly disputes these accusations which have seriously injured him and which necessarily have repercussions on his family and those around him.

“As a reminder, Laurent Koscielny has not been part of the professional staff of the club since the end of January 2022, he recalls that he is still an employee of the Girondins de Bordeaux.

“On this point, Laurent Koscielny intends to specify that he has decided to hang up his boots when he would have preferred to help the club on the ground.

“Aware that the club was in difficulty, he accepted the proposal made to occupy a new function and to release his salary as proof of the concern he has for the best interests of the club. As such, he would like to thank the club for the mark of confidence shown in him by entrusting him with this position.”

Manchester United are reportedly set to allow Phil Jones to leave without charging a loan fee as they recognise his need to get his career back on track.

The Red Devils defender has been in talks over a loan move to Bordeaux, according to BBC Sport, and it looks like Man Utd won’t stand in his way of getting a temporary move away from Old Trafford to play regular first-team football.

Jones has had problems with injuries in recent years, but he’s also generally failed to fulfil the potential he showed earlier in his career, when he was notably tipped for greatness by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jones joined United as a youngster and made a terrific start to life at the club, but he eventually lost his way a bit, and is now far down in the pecking order.

Phil Jones to leave Manchester United for Bordeaux?

A move to Bordeaux certainly seems like it could be good for the 29-year-old, and there’s little reason for MUFC to make things difficult for him or the Ligue 1 side here.

It would be good to see Jones making a fresh start and enjoying his football again after such a difficult few years at Old Trafford.

Arsenal FC legend Thierry Henry could reportedly be back in management soon after leaving his position as Montreal Impact boss last February.

The Frenchman is supposedly in the frame to take over as Bordeaux manager, which could mean a second stint in Ligue 1 after a previous spell in charge of Monaco.

This report comes via RMC Sport, and it will be interesting to see what this means for Everton, who have been strongly linked with a move to hire Roberto Martinez.

Reports have claimed that Martinez would want Henry to follow him to Everton, with the pair forging a strong working relationship after their time together with the Belgian national team.

Thierry Henry on the touchline during his time with Montreal Impact

It would be interesting to see Henry coaching in the Premier League, but one imagines he’d rather take up the option to become a manager if he gets the chance.

The 44-year-old was one of the best players in the world during his Arsenal days, and he’ll no doubt have big ambitions in management as well, so won’t want to carry on being an assistant forever.

Bordeaux could be a good club for Henry to test himself, and Arsenal fans will hope it can perhaps prepare him to one day take over at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite recently being taken over, cash-rich Newcastle United could be set to see some outgoings, as well as incomings, this January after it has been claimed French side Bordeaux are keen to sign defender Fabian Schar.

That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who has claimed the Magpies could be set to lose the Switzerland international as early as this month.

Schar, 30, joined Newcastle United in 2018 following a £3.6m move from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

Since his arrival at St James’ Park, Schar has gone on to feature in 85 matches, in all competitions.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, although some fans would have expected the 30-year-old to see out the rest of the campaign, a move away this month could be on the cards.

Whether or not Bordeaux can convince the Magpies to sell the centre-back this January remains to be seen, however, with Eddie Howe looking to heavily recruit, it goes without saying – a deal is likely to hinge on the Geordies bringing in new faces.

Jose Mourinho has ensured that the rumours surrounding a transfer for Granit Xhaka from Arsenal to Roma do not slow down by personally commenting on the midfielder’s latest Instagram post.

Xhaka, who has been heavily linked with a move to Roma, took to Instagram to share a lovely farewell message to Vladimir Petkovic, who is leaving his post as Switzerland boss to manage Bordeaux.

The 28-year-old Arsenal midfielder shared snaps of himself and Petkovic embracing in a beautiful moment after Switzerland knocked France out of the Euros on penalties.

Mourinho absolutely loved the message as he commented down below with three clapping emojis.

Negotiations between the Giallorossi and the Gunners have hit a standby recently, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, as Roma look to seal some exits before returning with an offer to meet Arsenal’s demands.

Roma waiting on some funds to be freed up is the only thing that is preventing the deal right now as it’s added that Xhaka has already agreed personal terms with the Italian club.

Xhaka has experienced a largely frustrating spell with Arsenal since joining for €35m in 2016 per BBC Sport, but the ace always appears to have been rated by Mourinho.

An Arsenal exit seems like a matter of time, Xhaka’s head is already in Roma, as he proved with comments like this after knocking France out and this flattering talk about the Italian capital.

Xhaka has made 220 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal, scoring 13 times and laying on 20 assists, but it’s been a mixed spell that has left the Swiss star facing constant criticism.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser, Barcelona paid commission fees of €10m to agent Josep Maria Minguella in order to secure the transfer of Malcom in the summer of 2018.

Cadena Ser report that Barcelona actually drew up an intermediation contract with Minguella, which saw the agent negotiate the transfer on behalf of the club.

Malcom was recruited for a fee of €41m, with that also including €1m in a potential add-on. The Brazilian arrived from Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux and was sold after one unflattering season to Zenit.

Cadena Ser have found via their sources that the contract was not a ‘regular’ one, with the 11-page document detailing amounts, percentages and dates of payment to Minguella.

It’s claimed that Minguella banked €1.5m for preventing another team from signing the winger, Roma appeared to have landed the ace before Barcelona swooped in and secured the transfer.

Cadena Ser add that Minguella holds a 20% stake on the variables involving the ace’s move from Bordeaux as well as a payment of 15% of the amount that the signing cost.

malcom
Malcom endured a difficult time at Barcelona and was quickly sold on.

Minguella has reportedly claimed that his commission fees only amounted to €1m, which have been dumb-founded as official sources at Barcelona tell Cadena Ser that at least €8.4m was paid out.

Whilst Barcelona took a massive hit in this regard of the deal they somehow managed to recoup the fee they paid for Malcom in his sale to Zenit, which was for an initial €40m and includes €5m in add-ons.

Malcom has been troubled by a hip and knee injury in each of his seasons in Russia so far, limiting Zenit’s club-record man to just 34 appearances, in which he’s scored five goals and assisted five.

Barcelona really have been involved in some messy transfer business in the last few years, which has amplified the financial losses induced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, Hammers insider ExWHUemployee linked the club with a move for Bordeaux striker Josh Maja this month.

If you’d asked David Moyes on the 1st of the month what his priority position was to be addressed in the January transfer window, he’d probably have asked for a new striker.

With Sebastien Haller having departed to Ajax, the necessity for a new centre-forward has increased significantly, with Michail Antonio now being the only recognised striker in the squad – and he’s been converted from a winger himself.

Time is running out for West Ham to dip into the transfer market and sign a striker, but exWHUemployee believes that they have plans to do so, with Bordeaux’s Josh Maja being mentioned as a potential target.

Maja’s youth career saw him spend time at Crystal Palace, Fulham, Manchester City and Sunderland – where he eventually made his professional debut, before moving to France in the winter of 2019.

He’s netted just the two goals in 14 Ligue 1 appearances this term, but has clearly done enough during his short stint across the channel to earn admirers at the London stadium.
