Former PSG striker Bruno Rodriguez has had his leg amputated in order to end his constant suffering due to the after effects of his playing career.

Rodriguez was said to be have had leg pain all the time after his career, and has ultimately decided the best solution to this was to have his leg amputated.

The stunning revelation was made over the weekend and confirmed by The Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionels (UNFP) and PSG.

The UNFP said: “UNFP transmits strength and courage to Bruno Rodriguez, who had to, as a result of his football career, resolve to the amputation of a leg due to permanent suffering.”

As quoted by The Sun, PSG added their own words to the news, saying: “Paris Saint-Germain sends a message of support to its former striker Bruno Rodriguez, his family and his loved ones in this difficult ordeal.

“The Club brings you all its strength and hopes to be able to welcome you as soon as possible to the Parc des Princes.”

Rodriguez, now 49, retired all the way back in 2005, meaning he has waited 17-years to carry out this life-changing operation.

The Frenchman spent one year at PSG in the 1999 season, where he scored six goals in 20 games. While he spent the majority of his career in the French League with the likes of Metz, Bastia and Guingamp, he also had a sport spell with then Premier League side Bradford City.

He scored 79 goals across 276 games with a total of 11 clubs.

This is a big move by France amid the coronavirus pandemic, and it comes despite football looking set to resume in other countries across Europe.

The coronavirus crisis has been handled pretty well by Germany, and as such BBC Sport have reported on the Bundesliga possibly starting up again in early-to-mid May.

According to the Guardian, there’s also light at the end of the tunnel in Italy, with Serie A training looking set to resume later next month, though there’s less certainty about La Liga in Spain.

Meanwhile, despite the crisis getting pretty bad in the UK, the Independent report that there is a growing confidence of getting the Premier League going again in June.

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly among the admirers of exciting young Guingamp forward Marcus Thuram ahead of what looks like a likely summer transfer window move.

The 21-year-old attacker is having a fine season in Ligue 1, and French source Le 10 Sport suggest the Gunners have laid the groundwork to make an offer for the player ahead of the summer.

Thuram can play out wide or up front and could certainly do an important job for Arsenal, who have had to rely on some inconsistent attacking midfield performers this season in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi.

It’s easy to see how Thuram, son of the legendary World Cup winner Lilian, could be an upgrade on those two, and Le 10 Sport make the point that Arsenal manager Unai Emery also knows the French market pretty well.

Gooners will hope this can give their club some edge over Dortmund in this potential transfer battle, though the Bundesliga giants have shown themselves to be a great stepping stone for young players hoping to launch a big career in Europe.

In the 35th minute of Lyon’s Ligue 1 clash with Guingamp, star man Nabil Fekir set the stadium alight with a sensational solo goal to hand Lyon the lead.

The move started with a inch-perfect pass from Houssem Aouar, Fekir brought down the pass with his chest before showing off a lovely touch to control the ball. The 25-year-old then curled a shot into the top corner, making the whole play look absolutely effortless in the meantime.

In December it was revealed by The Mirror (via L’Equipe) that the Blues had opened talks with the French side over the playmaker’s signature, of course a deal has so far failed to come to fruition, but with the star’s continued impressive performances – one of Europe’s big clubs could come calling to Lyon in the summer.

Check out the goal below:

Fekir has impressed for Lyon in the Champions League as well as domestically this season. The versatile attacker has scored 3 goals in 5 appearances and he’ll be hoping to turn in an impressive performance against Catalan giants Barcelona in the second leg of their knockout tie.

The World Cup winner is suspended for the first leg of the tie, which will be played on Tuesday night.

PSG superstar Neymar managed to do something that he’s never done before for the French giants this evening in their French League Cup clash against Guingamp.

In the 62nd minute of Paris Saint-Germain’s quarter final clash, the samba superstar scored a rare header to give the Parisians the lead. The 26-year-old made a well-timed run into the box before meeting Thomas Meunier’s cross with an excellent header which flew into the back of the net.

Fans should make a note of Neymar’s feat for the French giants tonight as there could some time before we see another headed goal from the superstar.

The Dutch international, who has been fantastic for the French giants since his move to the club back in 2017, powered home the set piece midway through the 2nd half to give Lyon a 3-1.

Dimitri Payet scored the first goal of his post-Hammers career on Wednesday night as the former West Ham icon netted Marseille’s second in a 2-0 win over Guingamp.

Of course, it came from a free kick, albeit via a heavy deflection.

Since Payet last pulled on a West Ham shirt on January 6, the Hammers have won three games in four.

West Ham fan and guest writer Darren Chapman wrote the following column this week (before Payet’s goal vs Guingamp).

No Payet, no problem… Hammers win again as Bilic smashes even more records

By Darren Chapman

When Slaven Bilic revealed that Dimitri Payet was refusing to play for West Ham, Hammers fans feared the worst. Yet Saturday’s win was their third in four games since the unhappy Frenchman was sold.

The win was West Ham’s 25th Premier League win under Slaven Bilic – no manager has reached this landmark quicker. Last season under Slaven, West Ham finished in 7th place with 62 points – a record number for the team in the Premier League. They also scored 65 goals in the campaign, which again was another record they broke.

Bilic signed Payet and made him the player he is to this day. This is why I feel the Frenchman was very disrespectful in the way he handled himself during January’s transfer saga.

Massive respect goes to Slaven for the way he came out to the media and revealed the news about Payet. Since then West Ham have become more like a family.

They thrashed Crystal Palace 3-0 at the London Stadium and recorded 3-1 away wins at Middlesbrough and Southampton.

Despite a blip at home to Manchester City, West Ham are into the top half of the table. There have been rumours that Roberto Mancini was spotted at the London Stadium and was in line to replace Slaven Bilic.

But, again, Bilic remains calm on his future and claims he loves the club and wants to be part of this new project.

The way he’s handled himself and the players this year has been a breath of fresh air.

He didn’t panic, stayed calm and now the club will look to carry on climbing the Premier League table.

The January window is just over a month away from opening and so Arsenal transfer news is naturally all around this morning.

Jan Oblak

According to GOAL.com, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen on 23-year-old Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who has a €100m (£85.23m) release clause in his current contract.

Petr Cech is not mentioned at all in the GOAL report, but presumably Oblak is seen as an ideal candidate to replace the Czech, 34, when he eventually vacates his no.1 jersey at the Emirates.

Cech, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea last year, has two and a half years left to run on his current contract with the Gunners.

Oblak is contracted to Atletico until June 2021, which puts the Spanish club in a strong position should they receive any offers for their star Slovenian.

However, GOAL claim that Arsenal would be unwilling to stump up €100m, which is more than twice what they paid Real Madrid for record signing Mesut Ozil in 2013.

Jan Oblak Atletico Madrid

Mesut Ozil

Ozil is subject to his own transfer speculation today as well, with Marca reporting that he wants to leave Arsenal to rejoin Real.

Marca claim that Ozil regrets leaving the Bernabeu and has offered his services to Los Blancos on more than one occasion since signing for Arsenal.

Ozil has just over 18 months remaining on his contract at Arsenal, who have only won two FA Cups and one Community Shield while the 28-year-old German has been at the club.

In three seasons in Madrid, Ozil won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana, but Real have lifted the Champions League twice since he left, while Arsenal have not reached a quarter-final in the last six years.

Ralph Hasenhuttl

According to an exclusive report in The Sun, Arsenal are preparing for life without Wenger as manager.

The Sun claim that Gunners bigwigs have compiled a list of possible Wenger replacements. And that list is said to include 49-year-old Austrian Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Hasenhuttl is currently in charge of RB Leipzig, who lead the Bundesliga after being promoted last season.

Wenger’s current deal expires at the end of the season and Arsenal’s preferred option would be for the Frenchman, 67, to extend his stay, add The Sun.

Mathieu Debuchy

Forgotten full-back Mathieu Debuchy is one of two Arsenal players reportedly attracting attention from France’s Ligue 1.

Claims made by France Football (re-reported by Metro) state that Marseille want to sign Debuchy in January, along with his former Gunners teammate Mathieu Flamini, who is currently struggling to get a game for Crystal Palace.

Flamini has featured just twice for Palace this season, while Debuchy has played 16 minutes of Arsenal’s campaign.

Mathieu Debuchy Arsenal

Ismael Bennacer

Another Gunner likely to be on his way to France in the New Year in 18-year-old midfielder Ismael Bennacer.

Algerian newspaper Le Buteur writes that the teenager, who made his Arsenal debut in the League Cup last season, is being eyed by Le Havre, Lorient and Guingamp as a potential loan signing.

French-born Bennacer committed his international future to Algeria earlier this year and made his senior debut for the country in a 6-0 win over Lesotho in July.

Reports in France indicate that En Avant de Guingamp are set to join the hunt for free agent Yoann Gourcuff, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

The playmaker left his contract with Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the season, and with the new campaigns in England and France fast approaching, he is yet to find a new club.

There has been considerable interest in his services from both sides of the Channel.

In England, the likes of Olympique de Marseille are understood to be keen on his services according to BeInSport [via Le 10 Sport]. However, Montpellier Herault Sport Club coach Rolland Courbis has expressed overwhelming confidence that the attacking midfielder will be joining his outfit over the coming few months [RMC as per Le 10 Sport].

Stade Rennais are also tipped to be considering a move for the 29-year-old [Ouest-France].

However, there may yet be an approach from England, with both Arsenal and Liverpool understood to be considering moves for the former AC Milan star [TalkSPORT via the Liverpool Echo].

27-year-old Beauvue was recruited by Lyon for €4 million this summer, when he swapped En Avant de Guingamp for the Stade de Gerland [ESPN].

The forward had been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Everton and West Ham United both rumoured to be keen on signing him [Sky Sports].

However, the attacker eventually opted to remain in France, choosing to sign for OL, who can offer him Champions League football for the coming campaign.

It remains to be seen whether Beauvue, who scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 last term, will play alongside Les Gones hotshot Lacazette during the coming campaign.

The forward has been heavily linked with a switch to England, with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United understood to be keeping tabs on the French international [Express].

While, as yet, there has been no movement on the forward’s future, Beauvue has admitted that he is not yet 100 percent that his new teammate will still be at the club for the new campaign.

“To play with him?” Beauvue began, when asked about Lacazette by the Progres [via Le 10 Sport], “well, I hope so!

“In football, everyone is in charge of his own career,” he former EAG man continued, “for him, he is at OL, afterwards, I don’t know.

“Of course, I would love to be able to play alongside him.”

Lacazette managed 27 goals in 33 outings in the French top flight last term.
