Kolo Muani looks an exciting potential signing for PSG

Despite already signing Goncalo Ramos at central striker this summer, we’re now seeing progress being made on PSG bringing in Randal Kolo Muani as well. As has been widely reported, negotiations are now expected to advance, with the player keen on the move.

The France international is a name that the Ligue 1 giants have been eyeing for some time. Kolo Muani enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga and also caught the eye at the World Cup in Qatar so it was no surprise to see the likes of Bayern Munich linked with him fairly swiftly. However, PSG worked their way up to the top of the list of admirers and could now land him before this window closes.

Things have stepped up this week with Neymar, Leandro Paredes, Abdou Diallo and Renato Sanches all freeing up further space on the wage bill to enable Luis Campos greater room for manoeuvre in what has already been a busy summer.

The beauty of Kolo Muani is that he can score and provide goals as well as working hard from the front which makes him compatible with the likes of Ramos, Mbappe and Dembele.

Obviously, a quality all-French frontline was part of the vision sold to Mbappe one year ago as he renewed so it is linked, in part, to him. However, Mbappe’s contract is yet to be extended and Kolo Muani as a fellow Bondy boy could further aid Parisien hopes for this outcome. Mbappe aside, though, Kolo Muani would be a quality addition.

PSG have the edge over Chelsea for Barcola

Bradley Barcola of Lyon

Bradley Barcola’s situation continues to attract speculation, but, to be honest, I do not think Chelsea stand much of a chance as long as PSG are in the race for him. The Lyon man has been clear that a Paris move interests him and he is the last remaining major target for Campos this window along with Kolo Muani. To land both would be a game changer and Hugo Ekitike potentially moving on with both Frankfurt and West Ham keen hints at how PSG entire attacking stable would be reset by both players joining this month.

Chelsea is not unattractive to Barcola, especially with former teammate Malo Gusto already there, but the pathway to a clear and defined role at Parc des Princes has already been laid out to him and Ligue 1 keeps him developing without too big a jump in demands.

Should PSG’s interest fail to concretise, then a London switch might be considered but it is not currently the priority. Also, a potential loan move to Strasbourg is unlikely to appeal given Lyon’s situation is fairly similar while PSG can also offer continental competition now.

Thoughts on those Jules Kounde to Arsenal rumours

There was speculation surrounding Jules Kounde’s future at Barcelona earlier this summer, and with Jurrien Timber’s injury at Arsenal, links have resurfaced about Mikel Arteta possibly trying to bring the Frenchman to the Emirates Stadium.

However, I would be surprised if the Gunners rush back into the market despite this setback. The defence seems fairly well stacked and although Kounde is a quality and versatile player, he has a price tag to match and Arsenal have already spent a fair bit this summer.

It’s also important to take into consideration that Barca’s need to raise funds is not quite as pressing as it was when the rumours originally surfaced. If Arteta was to move for someone, I think that might have come had Gabriel moved on. Defensive depth is pretty impressive for the Gunners right now and adding Kounde to that brings long-term complications despite short-term solutions.

Obviously, the situation is not ideal once Europe comes into play, but Arteta does have other players he can call upon without launching a tricky offensive for the final week of this summer’s window.

Ligue 1 journalist Jonathan Johnson has provided some insight into Elye Wahi and his transfer from Montpellier to Lens despite also being linked with other big names like Chelsea.

Wahi showed himself to be a hugely promising young talent with his performances in Ligue 1 last season, and it’s not surprising that he’s ended up securing a move to a Champions League club.

According to Johnson, writing in his exclusive weekly column for CaughtOffside, Wahi would have been more of a signing for the future at Chelsea, whereas he can immediately play at a high level with his move to Lens.

Johnson added that Lens ended up signing the 20-year-old as an alternative to Chuba Akpom, who ended up moving to Ajax instead.

Elye Wahi was superb in Ligue 1 last season

“Elye Wahi made a move that took everyone slightly by surprise as he made the switch from Montpellier to Lens after links with a number of other top clubs around Europe,” Johnson said.

“Still, I think it is a great move for the player and club. Lens were closing on Chuba Akpom before he favoured Ajax and that was a bit of a blow so this was a nice pivot to sign a player in Wahi who needed the step up in level with European experience for a club who needed to replace a major source of goals in Lois Openda.

“Wahi has shown that he can score regularly in Ligue 1 and will now get a taste for Europe while Lens can further develop a player who is already being watched by Europe’s top clubs. It is a better fit than being loaned to Strasbourg so it is little surprise to see Wahi jumping at the opportunity and it us also heartening to see such a significant deal done between French clubs which are not PSG.

“Frankfurt will likely continue to pursue Ekitike and Chelsea had Wahi as one for the future and not now which was perfect for Lens who will make him an immediate starter across all competitions.”

Some Chelsea fans may be disappointed not to have signed Wahi, who could surely have come in and solved the Blues’ issues up front straight away, given the team’s issues in that position for the last few years.

Many things happening and Man Utd still one to watch

Many things are happening, particularly with Saudi clubs as Al Hilal sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham for €55m while Otavio joins Al Nassr from Porto for €60m. I would also keep an eye on Aymeric Laporte – Manchester City accepted a proposal from Al Nassr, and the player has to decide his future soon, so this is one to watch. Elsewhere we’re also seeing Hakim Ziyech leaving Chelsea for Galatasaray, Tyler Adams closing in on a move to Bournemouth, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen being on the verge of extending his contract with Barcelona until 2028.

I wanted to clarify something on Manchester United, though, because a lot of their fans have been asking me if Man United are done in the market for this summer. We know there is the Financial Fair Play situation, but my simple answer would be: no. United are continuing to explore the market and it remains a possibility that they will do something, especially in midfield.

This week, Man United made a call to be informed on the situation regarding Ryan Gravenberch at Bayern, as well as Liverpool. At the moment Bayern don’t want to give the green light for the player to leave, but in case this changes both clubs are informed. United are also still there on Sofyan Amrabat, but it’s also important for them to sell Donny van de Beek. Let’s see what happens with Harry Maguire as well, but at the moment a deal with West Ham has collapsed and they are signing Konstantinos Mavropanos instead…

Chelsea have been among the clubs interested in Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer, but he’s also a target for Eintracht Frankfurt and seems to prefer that move, according to Fabrizio Romano in the latest edition of his exclusive column for CaughtOffside.

Romano has also linked Wahi as someone liked by West Ham United, but it seems the highly-rated young Frenchman has his heart set on a move to the Bundesliga next.

This could perhaps make sense as we’ve seen a number of top young French players do well in Germany in recent times, such as Moussa Diaby, Marcus Thuram and Manu Kone, as well as Randal Kolo Muani at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Wahi could be an exciting signing for Chelsea to give them more quality up front after the struggles of Romelu Lukaku, but it now looks like this one may be slipping away from the Blues, who are also closing in on signing Deivid Washington instead.

Elye Wahi in action for Montpellier

“Chelsea also continue to be linked with Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, but my understanding is that the player’s preference is Eintracht Frankfurt,” Romano said.

“Chelsea made two bids for him but, after signing Deivid Washington, it looks more difficult as player is also attracted by Eintracht project.

“West Ham are also admirers of Wahi, while both the Hammers and Chelsea are also among the names to have shown an interest in Mohammed Kudus this summer.”

Chelsea reportedly remain in talks over the potential £30million transfer of Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

The highly-rated young Frenchman has impressed in Ligue 1 in recent times, and seems like he could be a fine long-term signing for the Blues.

This rumour has been doing the rounds for some time now, and the latest from the Evening Standard is that negotiations do seem to be dragging on.

Wahi would be another top young player to join this growing impressive roster at Stamford Bridge, with Romeo Lavia and Michael Olise both closing in on moves, as reported by Fabrizio Romano in his CaughtOffside column earlier today.

Elye Wahi celebrates a goal for Montpellier

Chelsea started their Premier League season with a draw at home to Liverpool and will surely need to improve, even if plenty of exciting changes have been made to the squad.

Wahi could be another useful option to give CFC more of a goal threat, with question marks over Nicolas Jackson, even if he looks another promising long-term option.

With only a few weeks left until the summer transfer window closes, there’s no time to waste for Tottenham Hotspur as they go in search of their Harry Kane replacement.

It’s a signing that the Lilywhites simply have to get right if they want to have a modicum of success come the end of the 2023/24 season.

One player that is of interest to both the north Londoners and west London counterparts, Chelsea, is Montpelier’s 20-year-old marksman, Elye Wahi, according to CaughtOffside sources.

They suggest that the Blues have always had a specific plan in mind for Wahi, and that is to sign the player and immediately let him go on loan at Strasbourg.

However, information received by CaughtOffside sources suggest that the player isn’t happy with a loan move and, as a result, there’s likely to be fierce competition for him.

Eintracht Frankfurt are looking for a striker in the event of Randal Kolo Muani’s farewell, and whilst talks with PSG are still in progress, they’re going slowly, with the French club also proposing a swap deal for Hugo Ekitike.

Wahi is the main target to replace Kolo Muani, but with the negotiation anything but fast, Tottenham have emerged as contenders for his signature in the last few days.

Spurs have a concrete interest in the player sources have told CaughtOffside, and with a price tag of only €30m, Wahi is well within budget for the club.

Manchester United remain Rasmus Hojlund’s preference despite PSG approach

As I revealed ten days ago, PSG are also interested in Rasmus Hojlund. They are having conversations but they haven’t sent a bid – they are very well informed on his situation, and this is why Manchester United want to act fast and should make an opening bid for the striker soon. United are ahead in the race because they have an agreement with Hojlund on personal terms, he’s said yes to their contract proposal.

Details on the bid will arrive once the bid will be submitted; for sure, Man United want to send the proposal soon and they want to accelerate as PSG are still interested and speaking to the player’s camp. The priority for Hojlund is very clear: Manchester United. PSG would only bid if United will be slow in negotiations with Atalanta. At the moment, it’s between these two club and no other one…

Chelsea are in the race for the transfer of Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer, but will face competition from clubs in Germany, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

Wahi has shown himself to be one of the top young talents in Europe in recent times, and it makes sense that a big name like Chelsea are now pursuing him.

The Frenchman could be a smart signing for the Blues for the future, with Romano confirming that their plan has always been to sign him and then loan him out, rather than bringing him into their first-team now.

It remains to be seen if Wahi himself would be happy with such a proposal, as he may favour moving to a German club who might be able to offer him a quicker pathway to first-team football at the highest level.

Discussing the latest on the Wahi to Chelsea transfer situation, Romano said: “Elye Wahi – Chelsea could face competition for this deal as German clubs like Wahi too – the competition is coming from there at the moment.

Elye Wahi celebrates a goal

“Still, Chelsea are ahead in the race for now, and they will try to get it done this week. Strasbourg would be an option for loan but not the only one, it will be discussed in the next meetings.

“For sure, he’d sign and then go out on loan, this has been Chelsea’s plan for him since day one.”

However, the Blues want to move quickly and plan to accelerate talks next week as there’s supposedly also competition for the young French forward’s signature.

Wahi has impressed in Ligue 1 and looks like he could be a smart signing for the future, so it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can definitely win the race to get this deal done in the coming days.

See below for the latest details on this deal from Fabrizio Romano via his official Twitter account…

Wahi already perhaps looks like an option for Chelsea up front, which has been a problem position for them for some time, though it seems he’s perhaps still too young and they feel he’d benefit from the extra experience of a loan move.

Chelsea could be landing a fine talent for the future, however, so fans will hope this can be done even if they don’t see him in action at Stamford Bridge straight away.
