Currently sat 11 points behind leaders Tottenham with five losses in their first 10 games, Man United manager, Erik ten Hag, finds himself under incredible pressure at present.

Compare and contrast his position with that of Ange Postecoglou, who has taken over the reins at Spurs and turned them into one of the best teams in the division.

Coming from Celtic, it’s not unfair to suggest that not much was expected of the Australian in his first season in the Premier League, so just how well Tottenham are playing has probably shut a few mouths.

Another former Celtic employee, Chris Sutton, speaking on the All Kicking Off podcast, was unequivocal when asked who should replace ten Hag should the Dutchman be sacked by the Red Devils.

“Big Ange,” was the immediate response, before he went on to discuss why.

Celtic have taken the lead in their Champions League clash with Lazio thanks to a goal from Kyogo Furuhashi.

The Scottish champions would be considered the weakest team in their group but have made a promising start against Italian side Lazio.

The goal came after just 12 minutes as Kyogo was played through on goal and finished off the move with not the best of finishes.

The goalkeeper should have done better but that does not matter to the home side as an explosion of noise occurred as the Scottish giants went 1-0 ahead.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers won the hearts of many as he displayed a heartwarming act of kindness after today’s game, rescuing a young fan from stewards’ intervention.

Following Celtic’s 3-0 victory against Livingston, a young Celtic fan ran onto the pitch.

In a viral video, stewards can be seen tackling the young child to do the ground before proceeding to grab him roughly before proceeding to escort him away.

A furious Brendan Rodgers can be seen stepping in. He pushed the steward aside, before putting his arm around the young fan, and walked with him towards the stands.

Rodgers later addressed the incident during a post-match interview with Sky Sports. He criticized the stewards’ behavior toward the young supporter, emphasising the importance of common sense in such situations.

He said:

“It’s just common sense. The wee guy at the end, he wants to see his heroes. He shouldn’t be punished or prosecuted for that. Especially when the security guy’s a lot older than him.”

Watch the incident below:

In the game itself, Celtic secured a comfortable win despite playing most of the match with ten men.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart received the first red card of his career in the 28th minute. Despite this setback, Celtic’s Reo Hatate, Matt O’Reilly, and Daizen Maeda found the back of the net to secure the 3-0 victory.

Celtic had the opportunity to sign Moises Caicedo for just £1m in the summer of 2020. Then Caicedo was playing for Independiente del Valle before impressing, resulting in the £4.5m switch to Brighton that subsequently led to his Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino signed Caicedo for £115m, a British transfer record, earlier this week. However, Stephen McGowan at the Daily Mail has revealed that Celtic were sent a report identifying Caicedo by a scout in the summer of 2020. The scout believed that the club would be able to sign the player for around £1m. However, by the time Celtic sought to look into the player further, he had gained a reputation of his own and was on the radar of a number of clubs.

Caicedo, who is just 21, benefitted from the coaching of Graham Potter and then Roberto De Zebri at Brighton but will now seek to replicate his initial success with Chelsea.

Maybe Celtic thought that they were covered in the form of Ismaila Soro, who had barely made the bench by this point, in the defensive midfield role.

It is a case of what might’ve been. Often players are offered in a number of forms, some going onto impress and others proving themselves to have been near misses. Celtic have had some excellent signings in recent times that have been somewhat under the radar and proven to be great successes. Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Jeremie Frimpong spring to mind when thinking about the club’s transfer successes in recent times. The club will hope that the plundering of both the Japanese and South Korean markets will have a similar success.

One thing is for certain and that is that if Caicedo had gone to Celtic, there is no way that the Scottish Champions would’ve received a fee anywhere near (or within £50m) to what Chelsea paid.

Celtic’s newest signing has named dropped a former Celtic and current Premier League star as his inspiration for his move to Celtic.

Earlier this week, Celtic announced the signing of Gustaf Lagerbeilke from Elfsborg FC for the fee of £3 million. Gustaf is set to reside at Parkhead for the next 5-years as per his contract and becomes the sixth signing this summer.

Already making mention of the connections between Celtic and Sweden, through Mikael Lustig and Henrik Larsson, the 21-year-old has also referenced another Celtic hero who helped with his decision process: Virgil Van Dijk.

Gustaf reckons that he can use Van Dijk’s development at Celtic as a blueprint for success. Van Dijk is now regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and according to Lagerbielke, he can improve himself and by following in Virgil’s footsteps. As reported by the Daily Record, Lagerbielke said…

“I always described myself as a player that wants to win, does everything for the team, with both short and long-range passes. Good in duelling and in the air and hopefully score a few goals.

“Virgil Van Dijk has been here before so that’s a huge inspiration. Also with how he is outside the pitch, a very professional player. He’s keen on getting better all the time, with his leadership. He’s a really good player, and with his Celtic history also. He was a great player for Celtic and he allowed good things, he’s an inspiration.”

Van Dijk won two Premiership titles in Glasgow, as well as the League Cup under Ronny Deila but he also played European football, Champions League group stages in 2013 and Europa League Last 32 the following year. A £12m move to Southampton followed and two years after that, Van Dijk became the (then) most expensive defender in the world after a £75m move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. It is no surprise that Lagerbielke wants to emulate VVD and hopefully he does!
