Barcelona have had their eyes on Man City’s Bernardo Silva for over a year and the Portuguese star is still desperate to play for the La Liga giants. 

The Catalan club tried to sign the midfielder last summer and would ideally add him to their squad ahead of the new season, but the big problem is Barcelona’s economic situation.

Barca have serious financial issues and it would take a miracle for the deal to happen, reports SPORT; however, Silva is desperate to join the Spanish club as it is a dream for him and he would like a new challenge away from Man City, where he has won everything.

It has been reported that Man City have placed a £75m price tag on Silva this summer, who has a contract at the Etihad until 2025, and that is certainly not achievable for Barcelona.

The Catalan club may try again next summer when the 28-year-old’s asking price has gone down and it would also allow City a year to find a suitable replacement for one of their most important players.

Leandro Trossard is running riot at Anfield today as he has just completed his hat-trick in front of the Kop to draw Brighton level with Liverpool.  

The Belgian scored a brace in the first half to give Brighton a 2-0 lead but that was turned around by the home side in the second.

Goals from Roberto Firmino and an own goal from Adam Webster helped the Reds back in front but it is now level again after Trossard pounced on some terrible defending from Liverpool.

Sadio Mane has scored in each of his last two matches for Liverpool.

The Senegal star tapped home his side’s second goal in their 3-1 first-leg win over Benfica last Tuesday, before netting an equaliser in the weekend’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

But on both occasions, Mane’s reaction to putting the ball in the net was subdued.

There was no excitement-fueled celebration, but why?

This was a question posed on Twitter by Liverpool fan and Empire of the Kop editor Jordan Chamberlain.

He wrote: “Two Sadio Mane goals in a row with no celebration. Is it because he’s worried he’s offside, or he is moody about something?”

Indeed, Mane had flirted with the offside line for both of his goals.

But former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique thinks there is an alternative explanation.

“I believe something is bothering him”, replied Enrique, who played 76 Premier League games for Liverpool between 2011 and 2016.

Another theory to explain Mane’s low-key reaction to Sunday’s goal at City was that Mane had been keen for the credit to go to teammate Mo Salah.

Salah set up the goal with a superb assist and Mane was seen pointing to the Egyptian as he walked back towards his own half.

Cesar Azpilicueta believes that Sadio Mane should have been sent off inside the opening minute of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

Mane caught Azpilicueta with his elbow after just six seconds of play at Stamford Bridge and was shown a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor.

But Azpilicueta believes Taylor chose the wrong colour of card.

The Chelsea skipper was convinced at the time that Mane should have been dismissed and his stance was only strengthened after viewing a TV replay of the incident.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Azpilicueta said: “It’s a clear red. I don’t mind if it is five seconds into the game or it is the first action, it is a clear red.”

Azpilicueta seemed to suggest that Mane deliberately hit him by adding: “He doesn’t want to challenge, he doesn’t see the ball, he just wants to hit with the elbow.”

Gary Neville has been a commentator for a decade but the most memorable moment of his on-air career remains that time he enjoyed a moment of profound release as Fernando Torres scored for Chelsea at Barcelona in 2012.

Almost 10 years later, Chelsea’s football made Neville do it (whatever it was) again… and more than once.

Chelsea and Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on Sunday, with all the goals cumming inside the first half.

Neville kept himself together for most of the half, but let out an elongated groan when Christian Pulisic scored the fourth goal of the game.

And lots of Sky Sports viewers noticed.

But Neville was not finished.

Moments after Pulisic’s leveller, Chelsea went close to scoring a third.

And this near-miss elicited a noise that was described as a “squeal” by multiple witnesses and an “orgasm” by others.

The game ended 2-2 with no more goals in the second half, which was probably for the best…

Was Mason Mount lucky to avoid a red card against Liverpool on Sunday?

The game was paused around the 30-minute mark while a VAR review took place following an altercation between Mount and Liverpool left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Mount and Tsimikas appeared to run into each other initially but it is what happed while the Liverpool man was on the floor that led to a check for possible violent conduct.

Chelsea midfielder Mount seemed to have a sly dig with his left leg while Tsimikas was on the floor.

It took the VAR a while to review the incident multiple times in slow-motion, before they instructed referee Anthony Taylor that he had not made a clear and obvious error and could therefore resume play without visiting the pitch-side monitor.

Chelsea had been 2-0 down at the time of the altercation, following goals from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

But they rallied soon after and were level at 2-2 by the interval courtesy of strikes from Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic.

It may only be two days old, but 2022 could have already witnessed its Goal of the Year.

Mateo Kovacic nailed a brilliant long-range volley in Sunday’s hectic Premier League battle between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Kovacic’s goal came in the 42nd minute, at which point Chelsea were 2-0 down following goals from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Marcos Alonso whipped in a free-kick, which Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher punched clear. Kelleher’s punch was a strong one and sent the ball 25 yards, but Kovacic sent it back with interest.

Kovacic kept his left foot planted straight as he pinged the ball past Kelleher with a satisfying swish.

To make the goal even more aesthetically pleasing, it flicked the woodwork on its way in.

Mo Salah has now scored twice as many Premier League goals against Chelsea as he scored for them.

Salah haunted his former club again on Sunday with a brilliant strike to put Liverpool 2-0 up after 26 minutes.

The Egyptian icon collected a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold before faking to cut back inside the penalty area.

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso fell for Salah’s dummy, allowing the Liverpool star to glide past him before slotting a shot beyond Edouard Mendy.

It was Salah’s fourth goal for Liverpool against Chelsea – all have come in the Premier League.

But Salah has now scored seven goals against the Blues in total, having netted three for Basel prior to his 2014 move to Stamford Bridge.

Salah spent two and a half years on Chelsea’s books, but only managed 13 Premier League games, hitting two goals.

Paul Pogba can breathe a sigh of relief as it seems that Graeme Souness may have a new least favourite player in the Premier League.

Former Liverpool and Rangers player Souness has become an internet meme in recent years because of his apparent disdain for Pogba.

But Souness launched into a fresh rant on Sky Sports’ Sunday Sunday this week and his target was not the Manchester United midfielder.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was the player on the receiving end this time.

Lukaku has dominated the sporting headlines in recent days after a controversial interview with Sky Sport Italia was released.

Belgium international Lukaku was critical of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s tactics during the interview. He also described himself as unhappy at Stamford Bridge and stated that he wants to return to former club Inter Milan one day.

Souness was very unimpressed with Lukaku’s decision to speak out.

Reacting ahead of Chelsea vs Liverpool, pundit Souness said live on Sky Sports: “I can’t tell you a worse thing that a player can do at this moment in the season. To come out and say, basically, ‘I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to play with players I’m playing with anymore and the manager.’ That damages Chelsea going forward, it has to.”

Souness later added: “He’s 29 years old (he’s actually 28), not 19. He should know better. It’s totally disrespectful. It damaged the football club enormously. It damages the manager.”

Tuchel dropped Lukaku for Chelsea’s game with Liverpool.  And Souness suggested that the striker needs to say sorry if he is to win back his place.

“The first thing I would have done is pull the person and say you have to apologise,” Souness said. “You need to stand in front of everyone in the dressing room and apologise unreservedly.”

Leeds United are likely to face an investigation after a fan at Elland Road threw a bottle that hit a Burnley player during Sunday’s Premier League game.

The incident occurred moments after Burnley had drawn level at 1-1 courtesy of a brilliant free-kick from Maxwel Cornet.

As Burnley celebrated in front of Leeds supporters, one fan threw a bottle, which appeared to be fairly and full and still with its cap intact.

The bottle struck the face of right-back Matthew Lowton.

Lowton was then attended to by medical staff before being cleared to continue.

This was not the first incident of this type in the Premier League this weekend.

On New Year’s Day, Arsenal fans were filmed throwing bottles and toilet rolls at Manchester City midfielder Rodri as he celebrated a late winner at the Emirates Stadium.
