Arsenal and Chelsea may be interested to learn that Dani Olmo could be a potential transfer to watch out for in 2024, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

The 25-year-old has shone in his time in the Bundesliga and could surely play for one of the top Premier League clubs, with the player recently linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea by Mundo Deportivo, as cited and translated by Sport Witness.

Olmo could surely be a fine fit for the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea, but it seems nothing is happening with the Spaniard for the time being, according to Romano.

The journalist did not name any specific clubs chasing Olmo, though he did say that he could be one to watch in 2024 as he now has a release clause in his contract, worth €60million.

Arsenal or Chelsea would surely have little trouble affording that, and could feel it’s a worthwhile investment to give them more depth in attack, though both sides already have a lot of talent in that position, so it remains to be seen if Olmo would opt to move there or to consider other options where he might be more of a regular starter.

“Dani Olmo – As I reported at the beginning of June, there’s a release clause for €60m starting from 2024; it was not available this summer,” Romano said.

“I think it’s a possibility for him to leave next summer but not something advanced or guaranteed yet, too early; also, he’s now injured.”

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe may have appeared to hint that he’ll be completing a transfer to Real Madrid when he becomes a free agent in summer 2024, but Fabrizio Romano insists we shouldn’t read too much into whatever the player did at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Mbappe winked when asked by reporters about ending up at Madrid as his next club, but Romano has provided an update on the France international’s situation in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

Real Madrid have long been linked as a future destination for Mbappe, but it seems nothing is going to be decided now, even if the 24-year-old is just months away from becoming a free agent.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer before learning what Mbappe decides to do next, as well as Real’s plans for the summer transfer window, according to Romano, who is one of the most trustworthy journalists when it comes to these matters and never one to sensationalise stories.

Kylian Mbappe attracted some attention with his reaction to being asked about moving to Real Madrid next summer, but I’m afraid I still have nothing at all to report at this point,” Romano said.

“I don’t expect any big movement now in this moment of the year. Mbappe is focused on PSG and Real Madrid are happy with their current situation, then in 2024 it will become clear what he wants to do with PSG on the contract situation… and at that point, with Real Madrid too.

“We’ll have to wait and see, but there’s nothing happening now, despite stories.”

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal actually had two suitors in the market for Jakub Kiwior during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners only signed Kiwior during last January’s window, bringing the talented young Polish defender in from Serie A side Spezia, and he’s quickly shown his value as a versatile and reliable squad player in Mikel Arteta’s side.

Still, writing in his Daily Briefing column today, Romano explained that Kiwior quickly attracted suitors during the summer, with Sevilla and an unnamed Italian club apparently keen to sign the 23-year-old on loan.

However, Arsenal wanted to keep hold of Kiwior, and it looks the right decision too as he’s settled in well at the Emirates Stadium and can surely have an important role to play over the course of a long season when the club are bound to have injuries or a need to simply rest players from time to time.

Discussing Kiwior’s situation, Romano said: “It’s been reported that Mikel Arteta stopped Jakub Kiwior from leaving Arsenal on loan in the summer.

“Sevilla were interested in the Polish defender, it’s true, and there was also an unnamed Italian club keen on signing him.

“But Arsenal always wanted Jakub to stay and be part of the rotations this season, so there was never a concrete chance of leaving the club.”

The host of the World Cup in 2034 will be Saudi Arabia as FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed the tournament will return to the Middle East 12 years after it hosted its first in 2022.

It was reported on Tuesday that rival bidders Australia decided against putting their bid forward, having been given a 25-day deadline by FIFA to express interest when the deadline was unexpectedly brought forward to 4pm GMT on Tuesday.

This left Saudi Arabia as the sole bidder for the 2034 edition of the World Cup and President Gianni Infantino has confirmed the Middle Eastern country as the host nation in 11 years’ time.

The 52-year-old said about the decision via Fabrizio Romano: “Football unites the world like no other sport, a World Cup is the perfect showcase for a message of unity and inclusion.

“Different cultures can be together”.

The decision to award Saudi Arabia the tournament was met with a lot of questions regarding human rights issues, which was similar to that in 2022 as Qatar hosted the World’s biggest sports competition.

According to Insidethegames, FIFA has been accused by Human Rights Watch of ignoring its own rules through its process for awarding the 2030 and 2034 World Cups.

They believe that FIFA set it up for the Saudis to win by setting a tight deadline of October 31 for countries to register interest in hosting the 2034 World Cup, and ruled it can only be held in Asia or Oceania. Therefore, Saudi Arabia became the only country to bid for the 2034 tournament.

This is an issue that will not go away in the lead-up to the tournament in 11 years’ time as it is a major question that once again needs to be answered by football’s governing body.

Arsenal have been looking at the possibility of bringing in a new midfielder in 2024 but as of now, talks of one arriving in January are premature.

The Gunners are currently holding formative internal talks on all potential names that could be pursued next year as the future of Thomas Partey at the Emirates remains up in the air.

Two names that have been heavily linked to Arsenal are Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

According to Ben Jacobs, the French star is very unlikely to leave the Bernabeu anytime soon but the Spanish midfielder could be an option as he has a £53m release clause in his current contract.

Martin Zubimendi is wanted by Arsenal

Writing in his latest exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs provided the latest on Arsenal’s search for a new midfielder.

“Thomas Partey has a muscle injury but is expected back in a few weeks. His injury has prompted rumours of a new midfielder arriving, but it’s a bit premature to be leaping to that conclusion,” the journalist wrote.

“Partey was subject of firm Saudi interest over the summer and Mikel Arteta is delighted he’s still at the club. There is just frustration that Partey’s minutes have been so limited this season.

“Links with Aurelien Tchouameni are wide of the mark. There has been no approach. Tchouameni wants to stay at Real Madrid, who also have no desire to sell.

“Martin Zubimendi is perhaps more possible in 2024. Arsenal wanted the Real Sociedad midfielder in January but there was no player buy-in and the La Liga club also didn’t want to sell. Zubimendi has a £53m release clause.

“Right now, Arsenal are only holding formative internal talks on all potential names. And from what I am told, if Arsenal have their way they could well look a bit closer to home. Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is still appreciated. It’s tough because he’s enjoying life at Villa under Unai Emery.”

The mood at Man United is one of pessimism at present as the Red Devils recover from being dominated by Man City last weekend.

Erik ten Hag’s men were beaten 3-0 by their rivals in front of a packed Old Trafford on Sunday but it could have been more as City excelled in the second half of the clash.

The defeat leaves Man United eighth in the table having lost half of the matches they have played this campaign, which is well below the pre-season expectations.

Even in the matches United have won, they did not look convincing, and the pressure is starting to heat up on Ten Hag. The mood around the club is not great and journalist Ben Jacobs has given an insight into how things are within the Dutch manager’s squad.

Ten Hag is under pressure at Man United

Writing in his latest exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs said that the dressing room at Man United is tense but there are players trying to improve it.

“Not all the blame can be placed on Erik ten Hag, who retains the faith of the Manchester hierarchy, but there’s no doubt the dressing room is tense,” the journalist wrote.

“There are players in it, Jadon Sancho included – at least before he was banished from the first team – who feel the Manchester United boss is too much of a taskmaster.

“But there are also leaders, like Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Scott McTominay who are positive influences off the field and doing all they can to improve the mood and keep everyone united.”

Chelsea will enter both transfer markets in 2024 in search of a striker and transfer expert Ben Jacobs has provided an update on where the West London club are at with their search.

The Blues signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal this summer, who has originally meant to provide backup to Christopher Nkunku, but the French star picked up a serious injury during pre-season which has kept him out of action ever since.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled to score goals at times this season, with Chelsea netting just 13 so far, half of what Aston Villa and Newcastle have managed.

Two names that have been linked to Stamford Bridge have been Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney and journalist Ben Jacobs has an update on Pochettino’s search for a number nine.

Nicolas Jackson joined Chelsea this summer

Ben Jacobs on Chelsea’s search for a striker

Writing in his latest exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs said that Chelsea have a chance of landing Toney but Osimhen will be nearly impossible.

The journalist said: “Chelsea do want another striker in 2024 but no final decision has been made yet as to whether to move in January or wait until summer. There is faith in Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja and a feeling within the club that Christopher Nkunku’s return from a knee injury could make all the difference.

“It will be near impossible for Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen mid-season. Although the Nigerian forward hasn’t extended his Napoli contract, Aurelio De Laurentiis just doesn’t want to sell in January. There’s no doubt Osimhen will leave for over €100m if he doesn’t extend, but Napoli are prepared to wait until summer unless they receive an astronomical offer.

“Ivan Toney is a more ‘gettable’ target in January. Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have all held internal discussions about him. Brentford want at least £65m, but several sources feel that number could be closer to £80m.”

A number of top clubs have sent their scouts to watch Eintracht Frankfurt midfield wonderkid Hugo Larsson, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing.

The 19-year-old is establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe at the moment, and one imagines it’s going to be increasingly difficult for Eintracht Frankfurt to keep hold of him.

Still, for now Romano insists the Bundesliga outfit are going to do their best not to let go of Larsson, whilst also stressing that there is nothing particularly concrete happening with this potential transfer at the moment.

It’s obviously normal for top clubs to send their scouts to watch the best young players, so Larsson was always likely to come onto their radar, but it seems we’re still some way off from any negotiations or offers taking place for the Swedish teenager.

Discussing Larsson’s situation in today’s column, Romano said: “Hugo Larsson – An exciting young player attracting interest, but I don’t have anything specific in terms of clubs moving yet, it’s too early and also I expect Eintracht Frankfurt to keep him in January 100%.

“He’s attracting interest in terms of clubs travelling to scout and follow him, but nothing more concrete than that so far.”

Fabrizio Romano says Thomas Muller’s future at Bayern Munich has not been decided yet despite him edging closer and closer to the end of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

Writing in the latest edition of his exclusive Daily Briefing column, Romano provided some insight into the situation regarding Muller, which could take some time to be fully resolved.

The experienced German forward has had a superb career at Bayern, and one imagines he could still have a role to play for the club, even if he’s no longer at his peak and other players could start ahead of him more regularly now.

Romano has suggested it will be up to Muller to decide if he wants to renew with the Bavarian giants, and that for now his focus is only on what’s happening on the pitch, so fans will have to wait a bit longer for more clarity on this situation.

“Bayern will let Muller decide his future as he approaches the end of his contract. They’re not in a rush, it depends on the player’s plan,” Romano said.

“Thomas wants to focus on the pitch now, no decision has been made and usually this kind of decisions are always made when we’re close to the end of the season, not now.”

Fiorentina and Argentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez has been linked with Chelsea recently after also attracting the interest of Brentford during the summer.

Responding to these transfer rumours, Fabrizio Romano took to his exclusive column in the Daily Briefing to discuss the latest on Gonzalez’s future, explaining that there’s not been anything concrete going on with the player since Brentford made a bid for him in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has impressed in Serie A and could be good enough to make a big move to the Premier League soon, with Romano clearly a fan of the player and his abilities, even if there doesn’t appear to be much to the links with Chelsea at the moment.

“Another Chelsea rumour is that Nico Gonzalez is now on their radar, but honestly I’m not aware of any contact with Chelsea at this stage,” Romano said.

“It’s a very quiet situation since Fiorentina rejected £40m from Brentford last summer. He’s a very good player in my opinion, but he probably needs one more year in Fiorentina before thinking about a big move to somewhere like Chelsea.”

The Blues have been big spenders under Todd Boehly’s ownership, so one imagines we could see further changes to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this January, though we’ll have to wait and see how likely it is for Gonzalez to be one of their priorities.
