The English winger has been on fire since the start of the season, scoring six goals and grabbing one assist in the opening nine fixtures.

West Ham United fans will be absolutely fuming at the comments made about Jarrod Bowen from Michail Antonio.

Although Bowen recently signed a new contract with the Hammers, Antonio has admitted he could see the England international being targeted as an ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

“He is a bagsman. Everything he is touching is turning to gold right now,” Antonio said.

“But hey, it’s going to cost a lot of dough, man has just signed a seven-year deal. The money you get from (Mohamed) Salah, you are going to have to give it to us!

“He’s quality, left-footed and plays on the right-hand side like Mo Salah, so he is the perfect replacement, but hey, it’s not going to be easy to get him out of here. It won’t be easy because that’s a seven-year contract man has just signed.”

Jarrod Bowen got on the scoresheet for West Ham on Sunday as David Moyes’ side were well beaten by Aston Villa but the winger is now on the brink of breaking an impressive Premier League record.

With the Hammers 2-0 behind, Bowen took an ambitious strike which deflected past Emi Martinez in the Villa goal. That goal helped the West Ham star join a list of only three Premier League players to have scored in the first five away appearances from the start of a season: Thierry Henry (2001-02), Mohamed Salah (2021-22) and now Jarrod Bowen (2023-24).

The London club’s next away match is against Brentford and if the 26-year-old gets on the scoresheet at the Gtech Stadium, then he becomes the only player in the history of the league to score in the opening six games of a new season.

Bowen has been in impressive form this season with the goal against Villa being his sixth in the Premier League.

The West Ham star will attract a lot of interest from the big six clubs next summer but first, the winger will want to be the sole holder of a new Premier League record.

Jarrod Bowen has pulled one back for West Ham to make it 2-1 against Aston Villa giving the away side a lifeline.

Douglas Luiz opened the scoring for Villa in the 30th minute and doubled the lead from the spot early in the second half.

But West Ham are back into the game thanks to Jared Bowen and a big slice of luck,

Bowen cut on to his left before firing a shot from outside the box but the shot took a huge deflection off Lucas Digne. The deflection wrongfooted Emi Martinez who was left helpless as the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Watch the goal below:

England managed to beat Australia 1-0, after Ollie Watkins gave England the lead in the 57th minute.

In a game that lacked creativity in the final third, England still managed to conjure up a victory, making it two wins in a row, and remaining unbeaten since December 2022. England will now take on Italy in a EURO qualifying game, on Tuesday 17th October.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Sam Johnstone – 8 – Johnstone made an excellent save early in the game to keep England at 0-0, and managed to keep yet another clean sheet. Making four saves (three of which were inside the box), along with three high claims, Johnstone impressed.

Levi Colwill – 7.5 – Filling in at left-back for his England debut in the absence of Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell, and he didn’t look at all out of place. Had 107 touches, making 78/92 accurate passes and getting involved in the build up for England. He also defended his channel really well, and was only dribbled past once.

Lewis Dunk – 8 – Dunk was the leader of this rather young back line, and put in another great performance for the Three Lions. Dunk made a clearance off of the line, as well as making three total clearances, one block and one interception, he also made 112/119 accurate passes, with a 94% completion rate.

Fikayo Tomori – 7 – Tomori did his job, making 52/52 accurate passes, and making four clearances. He was just slightly less in the game than the left sides defenders such as Dunk and Colwill, and wasn’t as noticeable, but he had a tidy performance not making any glaring mistakes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7 – Trent looked to invert into midfield as he does for Liverpool, and did manage to play two key passes, offering his creative threat. He completed 5/10 long balls and completed two out of his three crosses.

Conor Gallagher – 5.5 – Gallagher had quiet game, apart from his yellow card which could have then turned red after another rash challenge not long after. Only had 32 touches and only made 18 accurate passes out of 24, the game just passed him by.

Jordan Henderson – 6 – Captained England against Australia, and you could hear him commanding his team on the pitch, he also got on the ball more than Gallagher, having 63 touches and making 52/56 passes. Just wasn’t very progressive in the middle.

James Maddison – 6 – Not his best game, but he did make one key pass and create one big chance. Playing slightly further forward in midfield as more of a number 10,  he would have liked to create more and be more involved in the final third.

Jack Grealish – 6.5 – Grealish looked like the most creative England player against Australia, attacking his left channel when he could, making two key passes and creating one big chance. He also managed one shot on target.

Ollie Watkins – 7.5 – Unlucky to not score in the first half after rounding the keeper and hitting the post, but got his goal in the second half which turned out to be the winner. Was a willing runner in behind all game, and got his reward for being in the right place in the box.

Jarrod Bowen – 6 – Another attacker who is in fine form for their club, but didn’t produce his best today. Managed three shots (one on target), but apart from that he wasn’t massively involved and could have done more.

Subs: Marcus Rashford 4.5, Kieran Trippier 5, John Stones 5, Kalvin Phillips 6, Phil Foden 5, Eddie Nketiah 5.

Despite a couple of Premier League losses in 2023/24, David Moyes should be more than happy with how his West Ham side have begun their season.

After losing captain, Declan Rice, there were bound to be question marks as to how the Irons would cope without their talisman, but the fact is that they’ve not only coped without him, they’ve thrived.

Some excellent late business in the transfer window has transformed the east Londoners, and as their recent away win in the Europa League at Freiburg proved, they’re going to be a tough nut to crack both domestically and abroad this season.

One of the reasons for that is the strength of their defence, ably marshalled by Kurt Zouma.

The former Chelsea star might well have seen his Hammers career ended after the furore which erupted when images of him kicking a cat around were released on social media.

In stark contrast, he was handed the captain’s armband and the responsibility has sat well on his shoulders.

Now, as TeamTalk report, David Moyes is set to hand Zouma a new contract, following hot on the heels of the club securing Jarrod Bowen.

For a club that has been starved of success for so long, it really is a good time to be a West Ham fan.

If they can realise their promise again this season and perhaps add one or two more new faces in January, there’s every reason to expect that further cup success will be just around the corner for the club.

It appears that West Ham will be paying the price for their recent success later this week.

The Hammers have certainly begun the 2023/24 season on the front foot, setting the pace in their Europa League group whilst keeping pace at the right end of the table – in stark contrast to how they began last season.

Fortunately for David Moyes and his squad, they finished 2022/23 in the best way possible, and even the sale of former captain, Declan Rice, hasn’t had a marked effect on their style of play.

Jarrod Bowen in action for West Ham United

In fact, you could argue that West Ham look a more complete outfit without Rice in it, such was the quality of their summer transfer purchases.

One of the standout players for them over the past few seasons has been Jarrod Bowen, and it was poetic that he should bag the winner in the Hammers biggest game in 43 years, last season’s Europa Conference League final.

The 26-year-old was signed from Hull City back in 2020, and it’s the Tigers that are set to benefit from a decent windfall if Bowen makes a fifth international appearance for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions during the current international break.

According to Hull Live, West Ham will have to pay Hull £1m under terms agreed for his sale to the east Londoners.

West Ham took an early lead in the game, but were pegged back in the second half by an Alexander Isak brace. However new signing Mohammed Kudus managed to save the day, coming on in the 76th minute and scoring in the 89th.

West Ham took the lead inside eight minutes through Tomas Soucek, which saw them go in at halftime 1-0 up. A brace from Isak inside five minutes stunted the Hammers, with his double coming in the 57th and 62nd minute. Super sub Kudus managed to save the day with a brilliant strike in the 89th minute to equalise for West Ham and snatch a point.

Read on for our West Ham player ratings, and who stood out for the Hammers…

Alphonse Areola – 6 – Areola made one save (which had an x/G of 0.52) and also made one punch. There wasn’t much he could do about the two goals from Isak, but he did get dribbled past by Isak who could have had his hattrick if he didn’t hit the post after rounding Areola.

Emerson Palmieri – 7 – Got the assist for West Ham’s first goal after rounding Nick Pope. He also won five out of his eight ground duels and one of his two aerial duels, doing a good job defensively up against Almiron who he kept quiet.

Nayef Aguerd – 6 – Aguerd didn’t do much in this game, he didn’t complete a single defensive action, and only had one duel in the entire game (which he won). He attempted 17 long balls and only completed five successfully.

Kurt Zouma – 6.5 – Zouma took on much more of the defensive load between the central defenders, making four clearances and four interceptions. He also won three out of six aerial duels and one out of one ground duels.

Vladimir Coufal – 6 – Coufal was up against Elliot Anderson who got the better of him a few times on the wing. He did make two tackles and one clearance but it wasn’t his best game in a West Ham shirt.

Edson Alvarez – 7 – Alvarez was important protecting the back line for the Hammers, making two tackles and two clearances. He also made four successful long balls out of five attempted and had a shot which was blocked.

James Ward-Prowse – 7 – Prowse managed to make one key pass in the game, and did his bit defensively with two tackles and an interception. Just lacked his usual magic on set pieces.

Lucas Paqueta – 7.5 – Paqueta offered West Ham ways out in build up by dropping into pockets of space and receiving the ball. He made one key pass, completed four out of six long balls and won six out of his eight aerial duels (not something he is known for).

Tomas Soucek – 7 – Of course scored the opener for West Ham with an easy tap in, but apart from that it wasn’t his best game. Scored an important goal though so West Ham fans wont be too critical.

Jarrod Bowen – 6 – Very quiet game for the inform Bowen, until the dying embers of the game where he had a chance to win it. He had two unsuccessful dribbles, and only made eight passes throughout the entire game, only having 30 touches.

Michail Antonio – 5.5 – Antonio kept running throughout and tried to hold the ball up for West Ham as their outlet. However he didn’t really offer much in attack for the Hammers, having no shots and playing no key passes (only making 10 successful passes in the game).

Subs: Said Benrahma 5, Mohammed Kudus 7.

Jarrod Bowen has agreed a new contract with West Ham United because he was keen to remain part of their promising project, according to Fabrizio Romano in today’s edition of his Daily Briefing column.

The Hammers lost star player Declan Rice to Arsenal over the summer, but have done well to keep hold of Bowen, who has been another hugely important player for them in the last few years.

Liverpool have had a long-standing interest in Bowen, according to Neil Jones in his Daily Briefing column, but it seems it wasn’t quite strong enough to lead to anything more concrete at any point.

And this has now led the England international to decide to stay at the London Stadium, it would seem, with Romano explaining some context behind the deal in today’s column.

“Jarrod Bowen has agreed a new long term deal at West Ham. It’s all done, one more piece of excellent news for the West Ham winger after his recent England national team call-up,” Romano said.

Jarrod Bowen in action for West Ham United

“This is great news for West Ham as they hold on to an important player – my understanding is that Bowen said yes to the club’s proposal as he was keen to stay as a key part of the project.

“After the blow of losing Declan Rice, this is a big boost for the project of David Moyes, who did such an impressive job to deliver a European trophy last season.”

West Ham fans will be delighted to see this top player staying with them when he surely would have been good enough to play for one of the Premier League big six sides.
