Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, has been torn off a strip by talkSPORT pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor, relating to the 76-year-old’s post-match interview after the Tottenham game at the weekend.

The Eagles were unable to stop Ange Postecoglou’s side from taking all three points and go five points clear ahead of the rest of the weekend’s matches, and Hodgson wasn’t impressed with his young substitutes.

“There was no disappointment today. Although, maybe the young substitutes — who we like to think we can believe in and help us to a different level — didn’t show that,” Hodgson had said, quoted by the Evening Standard.

“They didn’t do anything for us at all, really. We became much weaker when I made the substitutions.”

That clearly didn’t sit well with Agbonlahor who ranted about it and questioned Hodgson’s motivational tactics live on the radio.

“I don’t like it one bit. I was watching the game as well. I was watching Will Hughes and I’m seeing nothing. I was watching Edouard, who’s been decent this season, didn’t show anything,” he said.

“To hammer three young lads who have come on… they’re inexperienced. You can’t blame that result on those three young lads who come on. 17 appearances between them. They’re still new to this big time football.

“What about the players you had on? Your experienced players? They done nothing all game. Spurs found it easy for me. Roy Hodgson, it’s a major blunder hammering these three young lads.

“In this game now, you’ve got to support these young lads. He should apologise to all three. If I’m their agents, I’m going in to the owner Steve Parish and saying, what’s going on here? You don’t batter young players like that.”

There are a host of Premier League clubs reportedly in the running to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

That’s according to a recent report from The Sun, who claims several of the country’s top clubs are big admirers of the young Englishman.

Both Manchester clubs and Arsenal have all been credited with wanting to sign Guehi, 23, but while the defender is likely to leave Selhurst Park next summer, his next destination remains unknown.

Interestingly, Chelsea, whose academy Guehi came through as a youngster, are also in the mix to sign the highly-rated 23-year-old.

However, the Blues are less likely to sign the centre-back if his eventual transfer fee goes too high – something Palace are hoping for as they prepare for Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s £50 million record sale to Manchester United in 2019 to be broken.

Arsenal, in particular, have a good recent record of identifying young English talent and that has been proven by their summer acquisition of Declan Rice. Although the Gunners spent a whopping £105 million on the former West Ham captain, very few fans and pundits have referenced the midfielder’s price tag since his move; testament to how impactful he’s been.

Whether or not Arteta can beat Pep Guardiola to Guehi’s signature remains to be seen, but with the Arsenal boss reportedly viewing the Palace man as a key part of his long-term strategy, and few prepared to argue the Arsenal project isn’t one of football’s most exciting, there is a genuine possibility the Gunners can beat rival interest again.

Consequently, when it comes to Chelsea potentially bringing back one of their old players, fans won’t be feeling too hopeful despite US billionaire owner Todd Boehly’s huge spend since succeeding Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has provided an update on the future of Crystal Palace stars Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi.

Both of them are key players for Crystal Palace who will be desperate to keep hold of them amid interest from top Premier League clubs.

Eze was subject to a bid from Manchester City on deadline day in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile Guehi has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United.

Jones claims Palace want to tie both the players down as they intend to bring something special at Selhrust Park.

New contracts would also mean Palace will be in a strong position to demand top money if they have to sell them.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said:

“Palace will want to tie him down [Eze]. We can see that this is a club who have little intention of letting players like him leave, same with Guehi.

They want to build something at Palace. But the very least, if they’re going to lose these players, then it has to be for top dollar.

So you look to tie these players down, first and foremost, because you have got to protect their value and protect the club. But secondly, you want to also keep them so you can build something at Crystal Palace.”

West Ham United are reportedly keen on the Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 21-year-old French international striker was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window as well. A report from Foot Mercato claims that a January departure is on the cards for the talented young striker and the likes of West Ham and Crystal Palace have been named as potential destinations.

Ekitike has struggled for regular game time at PSG this season and he has had just eight minutes of first-team action in the league so far. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and the move away from PSG would be ideal for his development.

West Ham could certainly use more depth in the attack and the 21-year-old would be a superb, long-term investment for them. They need to bring in a quality, long-term replacement for Michail Antonio and the Frenchman certainly fits the profile.

Regular football at the London club could help him develop further and fulfil his tremendous potential.

Roy Hodgson took charge of his 500th game as a manager of an English side on Friday night, but any celebrations would’ve been cut short by Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have been a revelation under the former England coach, the elder statesman amongst Premier League managers at 76 years of age.

It’s clear to anyone that Hodgson’s love of the game is still intact, as is his desire to continue working with talented, young players.

One of those is Eberechi Eze, who as the Evening Standard report, was the subject of a failed £60m bid from Man City in the summer.

Given that transfermarkt have pinned his value at €48m (£41m), that’s some game of brinksmanship being played by Steve Parish and the Palace board.

In any event, the report in the Evening Standard suggests that Palace are no confident that the player will sign a new deal with them.

As there are just a few small details to iron out, it’s possible that any deal could be announced in the near future.

That would surely be Hodgson’s hope as he looks to continue building a squad that the next manager can inherit and take forward.

With a number of international players in situ, Palace are in a great place at present and Hodgson has certainly played his part in that.

Tottenham have increased their lead at the top of the Premier League after coming through a late scare to defeat Crystal Palace 2-1.

All the goals came in the second half with an own goal from Joel Ward at the start of the half giving Tottenham control of the match.

Son Heung-min doubled that lead 13 minutes later but there was a nervy end to the match as Jordan Ayew scored a great goal in injury time.

That goal can be seen below but Spurs held on to increase their lead at the top of the league to five points.

Tottenham are in full control of their match with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park as Son Heung-min has scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0 to the North London club. 

The match went into the halftime break at 0-0 but an early own goal in the second 45 minutes from Joel Ward gave Spurs the momentum in the match.

13 minutes later, the North London club doubled their lead as Brennan Johnson found Son free in the box, who finished to score his eighth goal of the season and most likely give Spurs all three points.
