John Terry has admitted that he never thought Mohamed Salah would go on to achieve what he has while he was starting out at Chelsea.

The Egyptian winger will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the Premier League after what he has accomplished at Liverpool.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for Salah in England, after starting out at Chelsea he found it difficult to nail down a spot in the team.

Rejected by the Blues, the 31-year-old moved to Roma where he would impress before returning to English football with Liverpool.

Salah has been nothing short of sensational since and speaking on the Obi One podcast, Terry admitted that he regrets not giving him and Kevin De Bruyne more attention.

“Absolutely not, no chance. It’s my one disappointment as captain” Terry said when asked did he envisage the two players would achieve what they have via TBR Football.

“I softened as the years went on, but when those guys were there I was very disciplined in the group and very strong.

Liverpool fans are yet to see Thiago Alcantara in action this season and Anfield will have to wait a while longer as the Spaniard won’t return anytime soon.

Thiago has been absent from Jurgen Klopp’s squad since May when he underwent surgery to address a persistent hip issue, with his last appearance in the starting lineup coming back in February during the 3-0 Premier League loss to Wolves

Liverpool assistant manager, Pep Ljinders, said during his press conference on Tuesday that he misses the 32-year-old but he won’t be back in action for some time.

“We miss Thiago, I have to say. I miss him a lot,” the Dutch coach stated.

“Can you imagine, our midfield, our new players, everyone is speaking about them, then have Thiago Alcantara in the middle as well? Guiding the others with his experience.

“It will take time. He will not be available.”

Manchester United remain interested in the Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.

A report from Calciomercato.It claims that the 27-year-old Dutch international has many admirers in the Premier League and he could cost around €40 million.

The report adds that Chelsea have been following the defender for some time and they will face competition from Manchester United. In addition to that, Liverpool are keen on the defender as well especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract expiring in 2025.

Dumfries has proven himself to be a reliable performer for club and country and he has been linked to the move to the Premier League in the past as well.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea Manchester United or Liverpool decide to make a move for him in the coming months.

The opportunity to join these clubs will be an attractive proposition for the defender and he will look to test himself in English football.

All three clubs would represent an exciting move for him and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Chelsea could certainly use more depth in the right-back department and Dumfries would be a quality acquisition for them. Meanwhile, Manchester United might need to bring in a right-back if they decide to sell Aaron Wan Bissaka at the end of the season.

As for Liverpool, they are lacking in depth in the right-back department and Dumfries could compete with Alexander-Arnold if he joins the club.

The case of Victor Osimhen and Napoli is a strange one indeed, given that the club are believed to have offered him the highest salary in club history but then mocked him on social media.

That’s not the way to treat your best players and from Osimhen’s own point of view, he’ll know that he could walk into just about any other side in European football and improve them, so it would very much be Napoli’s loss were that to happen.

It’s a story that does appear to get stranger by the day too.

The official Napoli website were even forced into making a statement after club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis had suggested that Osimhen wasn’t interested in signing the new contract offered.

Where next for Victor Osimhen?

The statement simply confirmed that the president hadn’t said anything negative about the player, but the fact that the club felt it needed to clarify the position is a strange one indeed.

Now, however, things could be set to work out between club and player, which would disappoint both Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Reds were linked with a move for Osimhen by the Mirror whilst the Blues interest is noted by ESPN.

According to Il Mattino (h/t Fichajes), the concession by the club to allow Osimhen to visit Nigeria for a few days has softened the relationship between the parties and has given rise to the notion that the player may once again be willing to commit his future to the Partnopei.

There’s only a couple of months to go before the January transfer window opens for business and everyone gets to see how well their team does their mid-season business.

Indeed, a good winter window can often be the difference between a good season and a great season.

Clubs that weren’t perhaps in the title conversation before Christmas can gatecrash the party with a handful of brilliant signings.

Similarly, those struggling down the bottom of the table can haul themselves clear with some clever manoeuvring in the transfer market.

It’s a skill in itself but is an essential part of the modern game.

Although Liverpool were left disappointed during the summer window at a failure to land a few of their targets, the Reds have still done remarkably well to keep pace at the top of the table.

If they’re able to keep the same high levels of intensity between now and the window opening, there’s no reason why Jurgen Klopp won’t be celebrating with a trophy or two at season’s end.

Missing out of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom chose Chelsea over Liverpool, would’ve surely got under the skin of the German, as may the failure to capture 22-year-old, Andre, from Fluminense.

However, the Brazilian has now given the club a ray of hope.

“In this past window I didn’t talk about it, the first time I’m going to talk in more depth will be now,” he was quoted as saying by CONMEBOL Libertadores.

“It really was an irrefutable proposal from the club that plays in a big league. I think every player one day dreams of playing for a big club in Europe, in a big league.

“But I decided to keep my word because when the January window closed, Diniz [Fluminense manager] arrived and told me that he wanted me here until the end of the year.

“We didn’t know that a proposal of that amount would arrive and I told him that, regardless of what happened, I would be there until the end of the season.

“It ended up passing and arriving in the middle of the year, we were still in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. It was a very difficult decision to make. I think if I had accepted this proposal, I don’t know if I would have felt 100% comfortable because I had already agreed with Diniz.

“He really values his word, his honesty. I know that when we do the right things, good things always happen. And in January he told me that without a doubt, if I stayed I would gamble and my value would increase.”

Saudi Arabia’s big target for 2024 is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah but the Egyptian superstar will not be leaving Anfield in January as the Merseyside club have blocked any move.

That is according to Football Insider, who reports that the Reds will not sell their star man before the season ends, even if a huge offer arrives on their doorstep during the winter transfer window.

The Saudis targeted the 31-year-old in the summer but a move never materialised as Liverpool would not entertain it. Salah is an icon in that region of the World and it is the reason why the Saudi Arabian clubs are willing to part with huge money for the winger.

A January move is not possible but with a contract expiring at Anfield in 2025, it will be interesting to see if the Reds will sell Salah next summer.

Liverpool will have to pay in excess of £87 million for 16-goal target

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Bayern Munich attacker Jamal Musiala in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old German international is highly rated in Europe and he has a bright future ahead of him. Liverpool are reportedly looking to bring him in and journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that they would have to pay in excess of £87 million.

He said to Give Me Sport: “Bayern have no obligation or urgency to sell. They don’t have to worry about it. Next year, what I think they’ll do instead is try to focus on seeing how they can extend that deal.

“But if somebody is to succeed in 2024, I think they’re going to have to put down well in excess of €85million or €90million, maybe even more than €100million, so £87m plus.

“I think that any top player like that will always have admiration because he is in that class of the next generation with an incredibly high ceiling. But, of course, Bayern know that, so I don’t see them just looking to cash in, financially, when they still see the player as highly valuable to their project.”

Bayern Munich are under no pressure to sell the player and they are likely to demand a premium for him.

The 20-year-old has already established himself as a key player for club and country. He scored 16 goals across all competitions last season and he picked up 16 assists along the way as well. He has all the attributes to develop into a world-class attacker and Liverpool could certainly use someone like him.

The German international is versatile enough to operate as a centre forward, a central attacking midfielder as well as a winger. Working under a top-class manager like Jurgen Klopp will only help him improve further and fulfil his world-class potential.
