Gary O’Neil provided an update on the injury status of winger Pedro Neto after he went down clutching his hamstring against Newcastle.

Wolves twice came back to equalise against Newcastle in a game that finished 2-2 at Molineux stadium.

Now unbeaten in their last five league games, Wolves currently sit 12th in the table.

Newcastle were heavy favourites going into the game and they backed that claim up when Callum Wilson acrobatically put them ahead.

Mario Lemina pulled one back before Wilson grabbed his second from the spot.

Hwang Hee-chan then grabbed the equaliser after being set up by Neto.

Unfortunately, the Portuguese forward didn’t make it to the end of the game after pulling up with a hamstring injury.

Speaking in his press conference after the game, O’Neil shed some light on Neto’s injury status.

“He’s moving around. Obviously hamstring injuries have very different levels of severity, so we’re hoping it’s on the smaller side,” he said via Birmingham Live.

“Hodgey (Joe Hodge) had a similar one in the cup game and wasn’t out too long, so we’re hopeful that Pedro won’t be missing for long. He’s been a big part of what we’ve managed to do so far, but for however long he’s out for, the group is ready to make sure we keep producing performances and we keep picking up points.”

Wolves are back level thanks to sublime goal from Hwang Hee-chan.

Callum Wilson had given Newcastle the lead with an acrobatic finish in the 22nd minute, but Wolves equalised 14 minutes later with a towering header from Lemina.

However, in the dying minutes of the first half, Newcastle restored their lead after Hwang Hee-chan conceded a harsh penalty, with Callum Wilson converting from the spot.

Nevertheless, the South Korean managed to redeem himself with a brilliant goal in the 71st minute.

Pope’s weak clearance fell to Tote Gomes who passed it to Hwang. The 27-year-old displayed brilliant skill as he embarrassed the Newcastle defender with his first touch to cut inside before firing past Pope to draw Wolves level.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is “not happy” with the Premier League deciding to schedule the Blues’ trip to Wolves on Christmas Eve and sympathises with the club’s fans.

The decision was made this week that the Premier League fixture between Wolves and Chelsea would be played at 1.30pm on Christmas Eve – a decision described as “unacceptable” by the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST).

It will be the first top-flight match to be played on Christmas Eve since 1995 and it means that Pochettino will be unable to celebrate his 31st wedding anniversary with his wife, which the Blues manager is not happy about.

Pochettino is not happy with Chelsea playing on Christmas Eve

Pochettino made his feelings clear at his press conference on Friday but admits defeat in hoping the schedule will be changed.

“Our fans are not happy?” Pochettino said via the Guardian. “Me neither. I’m not happy also because the 23rd is my anniversary and I need to travel to Wolves, and I am not going to spend the night of 23 in my house. Then the 24th for Argentine people is a really important night and I hope to arrive in time to celebrate.”

The CST has urged the league to rearrange the game but Pochettino doubts Chelsea will have much success if they push for a new date. “It is difficult because I think it is not easy to change,” he said. “We need to accept, we are in England and it is different to the rest of the world, but I need to adapt myself and even if I am not happy I need to do my best.”

Football is still beholden to the whims of broadcasters it would seem as the Wolves vs Chelsea Premier League fixture was confirmed to be played on Christmas Eve.

It’s often said that football would be nothing without the fans, and yet they are almost always the last to be considered for various issues – particularly when it means someone can make money.

Sky Sports have now decided that they want to show the match, and the Premier League have confirmed a 1pm kick-off on Christmas Eve.

That means a trip up the M1 and M6 for Blues fans who will surely want to be spending the afternoon with their families.

The Express and Star note it’s the first time since 1966 that Wolves have had to play the day before Christmas, and no club has had to do so since 1995.

The outlet also note that supporters of both clubs are up in arms at the news, with supporters groups making their feelings known.

It appears that it is no longer enough to rinse the match going supporter of their hard earned cash, and potentially spoiling a family Christmas all for viewing figures is taking things a bit too far.

The sooner that supporters vote with their feet and let the Premier League and stakeholders know that they’ve had enough, the better.

All 20 Premier League clubs are set to vote against the proposal of the formation of a new European Super League, according to an exclusive from Ben Jacobs via the Daily Briefing.

This story hasn’t completely gone away since a first attempt at forming a Super League fell apart in just 48 hours back in April 2021, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham backing the project at the time before U-turning after huge backlash from fans.

All 20 English top flight teams have now agreed that they’re against the idea of the European Super League, despite some figures in the game clearly still being keen on trying to make it work.

Jacobs claims the opposition from Premier League clubs is now unlikely to change, so it remains to be seen if it can really go ahead without big names like Arsenal and Man Utd involved.

Crucially, prospective United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also thought to be against the Super League.

Bournemouth defender Lewis Cook was sent off against Wolves for headbutting Hwang Hee-Chan.

The Cherries scored first and went into the break leading 1-0. However, Wolves came back in the second half with much more intent. Just 2 minutes into the second half, Cunha equalised for Wolves.

And just 7 minutes later Lewis Cook and Hwang Hee-Chan were involved in an incident. The Wolves striker shoved Cook but the midfielder responded with a headbutt that saw him get a straight red card.

Wolves ended up scoring the winner in the 88th minute securing an important away win.

Premier League football supporters across the country will arguably waiting with baited breath to find out the detail behind the new TV deals, including a longed-for removal of the Saturday 3pm blackout.

Clubs in the English top-flight will also be keen to understand what slots will be available when the deals for 2025/26 to 2028/29 are struck.

According to BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, the packages are set to be agreed by the end of the calendar year, and supporters are set to be disappointed once more.

The 3pm blackout will stay as part of all of the packages available, which will, apparently, be bigger than 38 match rounds.

There will be five packages on offer with every slot, including the 2pm Sunday kick-off’s, now having live matches.

Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be happy about the Saturday lunchtime slot being kept, with all other ‘usual’ slots – Friday night, Saturday evening, Sunday afternoon and Monday night staying the same too.

In short, not an awful lot has changed and the vagaries of the fixture calendar will surely end up with supporters having to travel the length and breadth of the country at hours to suit the TV companies rather than those that the game supposedly can’t do without.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly identified Wolves winger Pedro Neto as his preferred option in the January transfer window in order to ease the workload on Bukayo Saka.

Although the Gunners also have some interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of January, it’s thought that there could be limited funds available at the Emirates Stadium this winter, meaning if Arteta had to choose between Toney or Neto, he would likely go for Neto, according to Football Transfers.

The Portugal international has been in superb form for Wolves recently, and looks like he could be a useful option to provide Arteta with an alternative to Saka, who has recently struggled with some injury issues after playing a lot of first-team football for one still relatively young.

Toney would surely also be a useful option, however, as Arsenal arguably lack a clinical goal-scorer in their squad, with Gabriel Jesus not looking like someone capable of scoring 20-25 goals a season, while Eddie Nketiah also doesn’t look the most convincing backup option.

AFC fans would surely love to have both Neto and Toney if possible, but after spending big on the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz for big money over the summer, it might be tricky to find the funds for even more high-profile signings.

Arteta’s side have started the season well, and earned a crucial 1-0 win over Manchester City just before the international break.
