Neil Warnock has said that he would rather take his Huddersfield team’s defence over Tottenham’s after their 6-1 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.

Warnock made the claim on Talksport Breakfast this morning, two days after Spurs were embarrassed by the Magpies at St. James’ Park, finding themselves 5-0 down after 21 minutes, before going on to lose 6-1.

Speaking to Ally McCoist and Laura Woods, Warnock said that nobody saw the result coming.

Listening to the show this morning, you couldn’t predict Tottenham going five down after 20 minutes.”

Harry Kane cut a crumbled figure as Spurs collapsed early on at St. James’ Park

The 74-year old Terriers boss then said he asked himself the question of whether he would have any of the Spurs defenders in his team.

I thought to myself, would I have any of Tottenham’s back four playing for me? I rather have Huddersfield’s, to be honest!

“If I was in that position, at 3-0 down I would have gone home – that would never happen in my team, though.”

In typical Warnock fashion, he got the Talksport studio cracking up, before ending by saying that he wouldn’t be jealous of anybody taking the Spurs job next after Cristian Stellini was dismissed yesterday.

That Tottenham dressing room must be gutted, but I wouldn’t envy anyone coming in. If Pochettino’s got any sense, he’d go to Chelsea because all they need is a striker.”

A rough few days for Tottenham, and they’ll be looking to put things right when they face Manchester United at home on Thursday evening.

Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was sent off during their Friday night match against Huddersfield, which resulted in a 3-2 defeat for Watford.

The game was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with Watford taking the lead through Asprilla in the 32nd minute, only for Rudoni to equalise for Huddersfield just before half-time.

In the second half, Huddersfield took the lead through Pearson in the 55th minute and then doubled it in the 88th minute with a goal from Harratt.

With just minutes left in the game, Watford got a freekick and Bachmann was sent forward to try and help his team score an equaliser.

However, in his desperation to get to a loose ball, he went in boot first at the defender resulting in a chest-high tackle.

The referee had no choice but to show him the second yellow card, having being already booked for arguing with the referee just moments ago.

The goalkeeper’s frustrations boiled over as he got into a bust-up with players and officials after his red card.

To make matters worse for Watford, they did not have a goalkeeper on their bench, and Leicester loanee Hamza Choudhury had to play the role of make-shift keeper for the final moments of the game.

Of course, there’s an obsession with playing at the highest possible level, but teams can sometimes lose sight of themselves as they look to stay in the Premier League at all costs.

Financially it’s the best option, but fatigue can set in for the fans watching consistent relegation battles, and that’s largely what Burnley were faced with during their recent spell in the top flight.

There’s a new era underway at Turf Moor with Vincent Kompany in charge, and the early signs are good with a clear shift in playing style that’s attractive to watch. His tactics also allow the full-backs to get very high up the field, and Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen has benefitted as he scored this goal to kick-start the Championship season:

The playoff final defeat last year is a clear sliding-doors moment for Huddersfield who have lost some serious quality in the summer and don’t look like they’ll challenge for promotion this year, but the Burnley side should be in the running for an immediate return.

Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin is edging closer to a return to Huddersfield after spending the second half of last season on loan at the Championship club.

Anjorin joined Huddersfield in January on loan, helping them to secure a place in the Championship final.

Unfortunately, Huddersfield failed to gain promotion to the Premier League, and they’re now close to re-signing Anjorin on loan next season.

That’s according to Adam Newson, who claims Anjorin could have some unfinished business at Huddersfield.

Not only did they fail to secure promotion, but Anjorin also spent periods out of the team. The young talent may want to return to the club to prove himself, play more often, and continue to develop as a player.

Anjorin stands little chance of playing regular football at Chelsea, so another temporary move will be ideal for his development.

However, Anjorin will have to make sure he plays more minutes than he did last season, or he’s going to struggle to develop as a player.

The 20-year-old didn’t start a single league game, and only managed 140 minutes during his temporary spell at the club.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keeping tabs on 19-year-old Chelsea defender Levi Colwill following a successful loan spell with Huddersfield.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea youngster, Colwill has caught the eye of the Gunner boss after a stellar loan spell with Championship club Huddersfield Town.

The 19-year-old has gained interest from multiple clubs, including Leicester, Southampton, Everton, Crystal Palace and now Arsenal.

Colwill made his way through the ranks at Chelsea before displaying his immense quality at Huddersfield during his loan spell with them last season.

Chelsea requires defensive quality after losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Although the Blues look set to sign Kalidou Koulibaly (as per the Daily Mail), Thomas Tuchel will need all the help he can get.

However, with Chelsea also closing in on a deal for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake (as reported by 90min), Colwill may struggle to get the needed game time.

Even if the Blues were willing to sell their talented youngster, it raises the question of whether the club would even consider selling to a London rival.

With so many Premier League Clubs needing a Left-footed defender, it will be interesting to see whether the talented youngster remains at Stamford Bridge or looks for more game-time elsewhere.

English football is set for a major change next season as all clubs in the top two tiers of the country can apply to operate licensed safe standing areas next season, the UK Government has said.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who also states that the Government have confirmed that Wembley will also offer limited safe standing for fans from both sets of clubs at domestic matches later in the season.

Cardiff City, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham took part in a safe standing pilot in the second half of last season and Brentford, QPR and Wolves will now join those clubs in offering designated areas for home and away fans from the start of the 2022-23 season.

Other clubs are expected to join these clubs in applying the standing as the season progresses, in what will be a momentous move for the English game.

Safe standing is returning to England

As of now, the only club that are not considering introducing safe standing for next season is Liverpool but the Reds may extend or increase their existing rail seating provision having run a separate club pilot last season reports the Daily Mail.

There has been a blanket ban on standing in the top two tiers of English football since August 1994 in the wake of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and therefore the Merseyside club’s decision is completely understandable.

Safe standing has been in operation in many countries across Europe but the most notable is Germany, where it has been very successful. There are a lot of pros and cons to standing at matches but it is something that has been talked about in England for a while now. Whether it will be a success or not can be seen next season but at least it is being tried in order to increase the atmosphere in stadiums.

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has questioned the decision to appoint Jon Moss as the referee for the Championship playoff final.

Moss is from Yorkshire, like Huddersfield Town, meaning some fans may well have questioned his ability to be neutral in this big game at Wembley.

Nottingham Forest won the game, and though Halsey isn’t questioning Moss’ integrity, he feels he got some key decisions wrong and there were better options to take charge of this match.

“It’s great to see an historic club like Nottingham Forest back in the Premier League, but Huddersfield can count themselves a bit unlucky in yesterday’s playoff final,” Halsey told CaughtOffside.

“The first penalty incident when Harry Toffolo was cautioned for simulation after Jack Colback’s challenge, I don’t understand why VAR did not recommend a review. It certainly wasn’t simulation.

“Also Max Lowe’s challenge on Lewis O’Brien was a definite penalty. Jon Moss didn’t have the ultimate viewing angle as he had players in his eyeline which is why VAR should have recommended a pitch-side review.

“There was clear contact and Huddersfield can feel hard done by that once again, a spot-kick was not given.

“I think a referee from west Yorkshire refereeing a west Yorkshire side … listen, you can never question the integrity of a referee, because once you cross that white line you focus on refereeing both teams and whatever’s in front of you.

“What I would question, though, is the appointment of Jon Moss for this game. There are plenty of other referees, better referees, who could’ve done this game. It’s a a massive, massive game, worth £200million to the winner. You have to put your best referee in for these kind of games.

“I feel a bit for the Championship refs – they’re refereeing it all season and there must have been a select group from there who could’ve officiated this game. For me, it should’ve been Michael Oliver or Anthony Taylor.

“We saw two penalty decisions going against Huddersfield. I’m not questioning Jon Moss, but he cautioned a player for simulation and for me VAR should’ve got involved, because it was the wrong call – there was clear contact and Jack Colback has admitted that.

“I think you need the best referees for these games, and for me that would probably be Michael Oliver. Again, no questions at all about Jon Moss’ integrity, but I don’t think he was the best appointment for this game.”

The Nottingham Forest end erupted as Manchester United loanee James Garner hit a crunching tackle during the play off final.

Forest took an early lead through a Levi Colwill own goal, and the Championship were doing everything they could to hold on to their advantage. This was epitomised by the tremendous work rate from Garner to hunt the ball down and produce a sensation tackle on Danny Ward.

Pictures below from Sky Sports.

Garner will be hoping Erik ten Hag is watching the game after this excellent tackle. The young midfielder could be given a first-team opportunity when he returns to Manchester United this summer.

Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill powered the ball into the top corner but unfortunately for Huddersfield, it was at the wrong end.

Manchester United loanee James Garner whipped the ball into the box, and Colwill unfortunately guided the ball into the top corner, leaving the Huddersfield goalkeeper with no chance.

In what is undoubtedly the biggest game in Colwill’s short career, as Huddersfield fight to gain promotion to the Premier League, the 19-year-old gifted Forest the lead, but he was very unfortunate to do so.

Pictures below from Sky Sports and ESPN.

After an excellent season on loan at Huddersfield, Colwill will be hoping that own goal doesn’t effect his chances of breaking into the Chelsea first-team next season.
