Championship leaders Leicester City and third-placed Leeds United are both likely to be watching the weekend’s Copa Libertadores final with interest.

That’s because, according to TeamTalk, they are one of a host of clubs with a vested interest in signing one of Fluminense’s players.

As both clubs look to move back up to the Premier League at the first attempt, it’s always a good idea to strengthen in the middle of the season if possible, as much as to provide competition for places as anything else.

Studious transfer business in January could be the difference in winning a title or losing out, and whilst it’s accepted that finances do play a part of course, there’s a question mark as to how much ambition a club has if they’re prepared to sit on their laurels and hope for the best.

Daniel Farke at Leeds is hardly likely to do that, and Enzo Maresca at Leicester has also shown his ruthlessness when needed.

Whether either are able to acquire Jhon Arias in the new year is unclear at this point, with TeamTalk also noting that Rangers, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Burnley will have scouts at the final to run the rule over the Colombian.

Five goals and three assists from 24 games this season (three as sub) per WhoScored, doesn’t scream prolific, but with so many clubs following the player, there must be something they see in him which is worth investing in.

TalkSPORT pundit and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has slated two Championship clubs following an investigation into Everton’s alleged breach of Financial Fair Play regulations.

As first reported by The Daily Mail, Leeds United and Leicester City will join Burnley in taking legal action against the Toffees should the club be found guilty of exploiting FFP rules.

The Merseyside club were found guilty of breaking FFP rules back in March and last week, the Premier League recommended that Everton should be hit with a 12-point deduction which would place them at the bottom of the top-flight table.

Leeds United, Burnley and Leicester City are looking to take a £300 million case against Everton should they be found guilty of breaching FFP as all three clubs were relegated during the Toffees’ supposed flaunting of UEFA’s rules.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning, pundit Simon Jordan has hit out against the three clubs, believing ‘they’ve got no chance’ of being successful in any lawsuit.

“No chance, no chance, no chance. They’ve got no chance. Everybody signs up to a covenant which is basically that the sanction of a breach has this consequence,” the former Palace chairman said via MOT Leeds News.

“Now they can make a case if they want and try and make a case through the legal system to try and suggest that this is a breach of the rules to which they signed up and the consequence of those rules. But any decent court case is going to refer them back to the industry that they came from and say what were the rules that you signed up to.

“The rules that you signed up to were that the punishment for financial breachers was this. You can’t then go and say ‘Well I don’t like the rules that I signed up to and I can’t do anything about changing those rules, so I’m now going to sue you for them.’”

Leicester City were 2-1 winners over QPR on Saturday and the Championship leaders got over the line courtesy of former Tottenham star Harry Winks.

The Foxes have taken the Championship by storm so far winning 13 of their 14 matches and currently have a five-point lead over Ipswich.

Winks has played his part in that and no more so than in Saturday’s clash as he scored a stunning winner late on to secure the three points for his current team.

The 27-year-old joined the Foxes this summer after some tough years with Tottenham. The midfielder wasn’t getting regular minutes with Spurs and seems to be enjoying his football again in the second tier of England.

Fans of the North London club will be happy to see him do well after many years of service with their club and his first goal for Leicester will always be a memorable one.

La Liga side Sevilla are believed to be keen to activate the option to buy clause in Boubakary Soumare’s contract after the Leicester City loanee impressed against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Spanish outfit lost 2-1 to the Gunners in their Champions League clash but the Frenchman was one of Sevilla’s standout stars on the night.

Soumare had a tricky start to life with the Andalusian club and didn’t feature much under Jose Luis Mendilibar but following his sacking, the 24-year-old has started two consecutive games under the new head coach Diego Alonso, staying on for the full 90 minutes in both matches.

Following Tuesday’s match, El Sevillista report the Spanish side are keen to sign the Leicester loanee permanently as they have the option to purchase Soumare for £13m as part of the current deal between the two clubs – Leicester signed Soumare from Lille for £17m in 2021.

The Frenchman is unlikely to have a future at the King Power next season, which is most likely going to be in the Premier League; therefore, the Foxes could bring in some money in order to fund new signings next summer.

Leicester City look certain to sign Abdul Fatawu next summer from Sporting CP following the winger scoring his first goal for the Foxes on Saturday.

That is according to Record, who reports that if Leicester win promotion to the Premier League this season, that will trigger a clause in Fatawu’s loan deal, that will ensure he joins the English club on a permanent basis ahead of the next campaign.

It is believed that the Foxes will have to pay Sporting a fee in the region of €17m for the Ghana star’s services; therefore, the club will hope that he puts in solid performances to justify spending that money.

Since completing his loan move to the King Power Stadium this summer, the 19-year-old has featured nine times for the Foxes and scored his first goal for the club in their 3-1 win away at Swansea City on Saturday.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Leicester sit top of the Championship having taken 33 points from their 12 league games so far. This means that they will be forced to sign Fatawu as of now, something Sporting CP are believed to want to happen.

Leicester City defender Victor Kristiansen joined Italian club Bologna on loan at the start of the season.

The defender left the English club following their relegation and Bologna have an option to sign him permanently for a fee of around €15 million.

According to reports, the Italian club are now hoping to sign him for a knockdown price and they are set to hold talks with the English club about lowering the price. It seems that Bologna want to secure his permanent signing during the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether Leicester City are prepared to let the player leave permanently in January for a nominal price. They paid €14 million to sign the player at the start of the year.

The Foxes have made an impressive start to the Championship campaign and they are currently on top of the league table. They will be hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League and they might feel that holding on to players like Kristiansen could be a good idea if Bologna cannot pay their asking price.

Former Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has made a big claim about what’s gone wrong for Youri Tielemans since his move to Aston Villa.

The Belgium international was a key player for Leicester City for some time, but he hasn’t looked anywhere near as impressive since joining Villa this summer.

It’s widely known that Arsenal were very interested in signing Tielemans at one point, but in the end the move to the Emirates Stadium never materialised, and Adam thinks the player has checked out mentally since then.

“I look back at Leicester and they lost Schmeichel, they lost Fofana. Tielemans was half gone, you could see it he was mentally gone in his head. You can see that he didn’t get his move to Arsenal in the summer. Maddison is probably the only one who played to a decent enough level to warrant a bit of interest or an England call-up,” Adam said.

Tielemans could surely still turn his career around and prove an important player for Villa, but it’s clear something can’t be right behind the scenes after such a dramatic dip in form.

Youri Tielemans joined Aston Villa on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

The former Leicester City midfielder has struggled for regular game time at the West Midlands club and he will be hoping to play more regularly in the coming months. The Belgian is undoubtedly a proven performer in the Premier League and he could be an asset for Aston Villa in the long run.

However, his recent performances have been frustrating and the 26-year-old is clearly still adjusting to life in Birmingham. Matt Kendrick, the host of the Claret and Blue podcast, has now delivered an assessment of the performance in the latest Europa Conference league outing.

It seems that the Belgian is still getting up to speed and his performance was frustrating in the European game. Tielemans seemed careless with his passing and he gave the ball away cheaply on occasions. The 26-year-old will clearly have to work on these issues if he wants to play regularly and it remains to be seen whether he can get his career back on track.

” He just seems a little bit careless at times. He gave the ball away cheaply and there were occasions where the ball was fed back into him on the right-hand side of the penalty area and his delivery was poor.

“It’s early days and it’s hard for him to be up to speed when he’s not playing regularly in the Premier League. I don’t want to write him off because he comes with good pedigree, and it was interesting seeing Tielemans and (Leander) Dendoncker… part of Belgium’s golden generation as was. Three years ago both of those would have been playing regularly in two good Premier League teams in Leicester and Wolves.

“But when you see them in the team rather than (Douglas) Luiz, rather than (Boubacar) Kamara, rather than Jacob Ramsey, it becomes a little bit static and one-paced rather than the high energy tempo that we like to see Villa play with. Tielemans is a far better player than what we have seen so far, but he frustrated me tonight I must admit.”

Former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, it has been revealed.

The Foxes have released a statement today confirming this sad news, with the 59-year-old said to be pleased to have received so many well-wishes during this challenging time.

Shakespeare managed Leicester after Claudio Ranieri, and produced some fine results and performances with the club, including in the Champions League.

He’s since been back at the King Power Stadium as assistant manager, and the club released an emotional statement on this important figure today.

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “Everyone at the Club sends their strength and support to Craig, his wife Karen and their children Elle and Jed.

“They will all be in our thoughts and prayers as Craig progresses with his treatment, surrounded by the love befitting his place in the hearts of the Leicester City family and the wider game.”

It’s not often that there’s a heartwarming story to be told in football circles, but for one former Premier League defender, all of his dreams appear to have come true at the ripe old age of 38.

At one stage in his long career, which began in 2003 at Luton Town and still isn’t over in 2023 at Cheltenham Town, Curtis Davies would almost certainly have had aspirations to play for the England national team.

Unfortunately for the former West Brom, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Birmingham City, Hull City and Derby County centre-back, a call-up for the senior side never materialised, and three U21 caps were all that he had to show for his troubles.

The very last thing he could’ve expected was a call up in a season that’s expected to be one of his last in the game, but that’s exactly what’s happened.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Davies announced that he will be playing for Sierra Leone, the country of his father’s birth, in their upcoming friendly matches.

He’s able to do so because of having never appeared for the Three Lions at senior level. A similar situation occurred with Ryan Giggs who represented England at schoolboy level before changing his allegiances to Wales.

Even if these next games are the sum total of his international career, it’s clear from Davies’ posts just how proud he is.
