Finlay Cross-Adair has been rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after being involved in a road traffic accident, according to Preston North End.

The 18-year-old was involved in a collision near Lancaster on Thursday evening and is now recovering in hospital in serious condition.

Cross-Adair is currently on loan at Scottish side Annan Athletic and has been a Preston North End fan since he was a kid.

The Championship club released a statement confirming the accident:

“Preston North End can confirm that young professional Finlay Cross-Adair was involved in a road traffic accident on the A6 on the evening of Thursday 5th October.

“Finlay suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident and is currently recovering in hospital. The football club will show full support for Finlay and his family during his recovery. We will be making no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.”

The collision involved a Seat Ibiza, which Cross-Adair was in, colliding head-first into a Mercedes Sprinter van on the A6 Preston Lancaster road.

The 18-year-old was part of the Preston youth team that won a league and cup double in 2021/22 before going on to make six appearances for the senior team.

Sgt Phil Baxendale of Lancashire Police’s road policing unit said: “This collision has left a young man with some very serious injuries and my thoughts are with him at this time. We are now working to establish exactly what caused the collision and I would ask anyone with information or dashcam footage which would assist our enquiries to contact us as soon as possible.” via the Daily Star.

Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay has agreed to join Championship side Preston North End on a season-long loan after Jurgen Klopp believes it would be best for his development. 

The 19-year-old joined Liverpool last summer from Aberdeen in a deal worth £4.2m, but the Scotland international only made two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side during an injury-ravaged first season at Anfield.

According to The Athletic, the Liverpool boss made the decision to let the youngster go as he believes a loan would be best for Ramsay’s development with the German coach keen to ensure the youngster gets regular first-team action after missing so much football.

Ramsay remains part of Klopp’s long-term plans and will be given more chances upon his return in the summer of 2024.

Man United loanee Amad Diallo scored a screamer to break the deadlock in Sunderland’s crucial final match of the season with Preston North End as the Black Cats look to reach the Championship play-offs. 

Sunderland currently lead 3-0 in their game and as things stand, that will be enough to see them finish in the play-off positions.

Should they achieve that, the goal that secured it was very impressive as Man United loanee Amad Diallo hit a rocket from outside of the box to rattle the Preston net.

The 20-year-old joined United in 2021 but has had two loan spells since with Rangers and Sunderland. This goal would have impressed Erik ten Hag as the youngster will look to get minutes under the Dutch coach next season at Old Trafford.

According to The Scottish Sun, Newcastle United reject, Freddie Woodman, is being lined up by Rangers in a £3.5m swoop, but the Yorkshire-based outfit hope to secure his services in order to provide some serious goalkeeping competition to Illan Meslier.

Indeed, with 39 goals conceded, the Lilywhites have the fourth worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Of course, not all of those are down to their custodians, but with Meslier being incredibly comfortable as No.1 at Elland Road, it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to occasionally take his eye of the ball, theoretically speaking.

A deal is said to have been agreed for the young Spaniard to spend the season on loan with Preston, with Erik ten Hag giving the player the green light to move on after his recent signing of Tyrell Malacia, according to Football Insider.

Fernandez looks a decent prospect for the future, and this loan could be good experience for him as a first-team spot at Old Trafford still looks like a bit of a long shot for him any time soon.

The 19-year-old could still have a big future at United, but for the time being he’ll do well to play on a regular basis, even if that means dropping out of the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has been in and amongst Spurs’ pre-season preparations but the club seems to feel that another loan move could benefit the Irish international.

Parrott has been with Tottenham since joining their youth setup in 2017 but has been sent on loan to Millwall, Ipswich and MK Dons in the time passed since.

According to the Daily Mail, Preston are leading the race for Parrott but faces competition from Middlesbrough, Sunderland and QPR, who are also showing interest in the 20-year-old.

This will be the striker’s second stint in the Championship after spending the first half of the 2020-21 campaign at Millwall – a spell where the Irishman failed to score any goals.

Nevertheless, the striker has improved since then and whatever club he joins it will benefit his development. At just 20, there is still plenty of time for the youngster to make his mark at Spurs but it looks like he won’t be at the club for the upcoming season.

Preston North End have confirmed that they have signed Ben Woodburn on a free transfer. 

The 22-year-old left the Reds last week upon the expiration of his contract after spending the last 15 years with the Merseyside club. The midfielder joined the Liverpool academy back in 2007 before making his first-team debut in 2016 but never held down a place in the senior squad under Jurgen Klopp.

Woodburn spent the last few years on loan with Sheffield United, Oxford, Blackpool and Hearts but now has a permanent move after signing a one-year deal with Preston, where the 22-year-old will hope to kick his career off.

Woodburn played for Liverpool 11 times in all competitions, scoring just one goal. That goal came in November 2016, as the youngster came off the bench in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Leeds in the League Cup to score his team’s second goal. The goal made the former Red the youngest-ever Liverpool scorer at 17 years and 45 days old, beating Michael Owen’s record who was 17 years and 143 days old when he scored his first goal, against Wimbledon in May 1997.

Woodburn has only a year to impress at Preston and if he fails to do so, where his career goes from here is unknown.

English football is set for a major change next season as all clubs in the top two tiers of the country can apply to operate licensed safe standing areas next season, the UK Government has said.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who also states that the Government have confirmed that Wembley will also offer limited safe standing for fans from both sets of clubs at domestic matches later in the season.

Cardiff City, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham took part in a safe standing pilot in the second half of last season and Brentford, QPR and Wolves will now join those clubs in offering designated areas for home and away fans from the start of the 2022-23 season.

Other clubs are expected to join these clubs in applying the standing as the season progresses, in what will be a momentous move for the English game.

As of now, the only club that are not considering introducing safe standing for next season is Liverpool but the Reds may extend or increase their existing rail seating provision having run a separate club pilot last season reports the Daily Mail.

There has been a blanket ban on standing in the top two tiers of English football since August 1994 in the wake of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and therefore the Merseyside club’s decision is completely understandable.

Safe standing has been in operation in many countries across Europe but the most notable is Germany, where it has been very successful. There are a lot of pros and cons to standing at matches but it is something that has been talked about in England for a while now. Whether it will be a success or not can be seen next season but at least it is being tried in order to increase the atmosphere in stadiums.
