Marti Cifuentes is set to become the new manager of QPR after the club sacked Gareth Ainsworth at the weekend.

QPR have had an awful start to their campaign, the London club are currently 23rd in the Championship after a meagre 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

Shortly after the game, the club made the decision to sack Ainsworth after just 28 games in charge of the team. Of those limited games, the 50-year-old only registered five wins as his eventual sacking felt inevitable.

As for his replacement, there have been a handful of names thrown around but according to Sky Sports News, the club are close to appointing Cifuentes.

Currently the manager of Hammarby in Sweden, the 41-year-old started off his coaching career in the lower league in Spain before moving to Norway and then Sweden.

QPR have sacked manager Gareth Ainsworth following their defeat to Leicester City earlier today.

They have had a poor start to the Championship with them currently sitting in 23rd in the table, six points off safety.

They have lost six league games in a row and 10 in total, with just 2 wins all season.

Ainsworth left Wycombe after 11 years to take over QPR in February earlier this year in February but could not work his magic with The Hoops and was ultimately sacked today along with his assistant Richard Dobson.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos confirmed it saying:

“Making a call such as this is never easy, and it is even more difficult when you have such respect on both a personal and professional level for the individuals concerned – which we all do for Gareth and Richard.”

“Many supporters have told me in recent months that they have never wanted someone to succeed more than Gareth, which is an indication of the fondness everyone associated with QPR has for him.”

“Unfortunately, results this season haven’t gone the way we all wanted and we feel a change is necessary.”

“Gareth has been a pleasure to work with from the moment he arrived and I am truly sorry this has not worked out as we all had hoped.”

“On behalf of the board, I wholeheartedly thank Gareth for his commitment, desire, passion and professionalism. We all have the utmost respect for him, and he will always be welcome here.”

“We understand the importance of appointing a new head coach quickly and an announcement on this will follow in the coming days.”

Some things happen within football circles that are scarcely believable, but supporters starting a petition for a Leeds player to be banned from football really takes the biscuit.

The issue stems from the midweek match between Leeds United and Queen’s Park Rangers, a game which Leeds won 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Crysencio Summerville.

It’s not the outcome of the game that has so incensed QPR fans but the 93rd minute simulation from Patrick Bamford which saw their keeper, Asmir Begovic, get sent off without even touching the striker.

At that late stage of the game it’s unlikely that the west Londoners would’ve got anything from the game, but the possibility exists and it’s long been said that simulation should be outlawed.

Bamford’s dive was a perfect example of how to con the referee, and it’s led to QPR Fanbase setting up the ‘Ban Patrick Bamford from Professional Football’ petition on Change.org for ‘continuously diving and simulating fouls to attempt to get his opponents sent off.’

It’s an odd example of the way in which society is heading, where someone, somewhere has to be offended by something but then takes their ire to the absolute extreme.

What it has done, however, is highlight Bamford’s cheating, and with his card marked, that could see officials paying extra attention to him in future.

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he is open to international management and frivolously tells Sky Sports reporter to give his number to OPR.

The Argentine coach has been without a job since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain over the summer and will not be considered by any of the elite clubs in the near future after the poor job he did in France.

The former Tottenham boss will need to rebuild his reputation and has spoken to Sky Sports about his future.

Pochettino has stated that he is open to international management and jokingly told Kaveh Solhekol to give his number to managerless QPR – who the Sky Sports reported is a fan of.

The Argentine said about his future: “At the moment, it wasn’t [international football] in my considerations but now I am open, why not?

“Of course, I am still young, full of energy and day by day I like the adrenaline to train and be involved; the national team is a different job.

“If it is not next, maybe in the future.”

When asked by Solhekol if he wants his number given to QPR, Pochettino jokingly said: “Of course, always. It would be a pleasure to listen.”

Manchester United are considering recalling right-back Ethan Laird from QPR to give him a spot in the first team.

Laird is currently in the middle of his fourth loan spell away from Manchester United. The 21-year-old is currently a regular for Championship side QPR, but Manchester United could consider bringing him back into the first team sooner than expected.

A report from Manchester Evening News has claimed that United are considering recalling Laird from his current loan spell to have a place in the first team. However, the report claims they are only considering recalling Laird if they manage to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Ethan Laird in action for Manchester United.

Laird has impressed whilst out on loan and with Wan Bissaka struggling to compete with Diogo Dalot for a starting spot, it could be the time for Laird to make the step up.

Offloading Wan-Bissaka seems like the right move for both parties, but there could be a concern as to whether he’s ready to perform in the Premier League. Signing a more ready-made right-back to compete with Dalot could be a smart move, allowing Laird to continue his development elsewhere.

QPR manager Michael Beale has rejected the chance to join Wolves leaving the Premier League strugglers still hunting for a new manager.

The Premier League club are yet to replace Bruno Lage having sacked the Portuguese coach earlier this month and initially had former Sevilla coach, Julen Lopetegui, as their preference to take over as manager of the club.

However, the Spaniard turned down the role due to family reasons, reports talkSPORT, and that prompted Wolves to look elsewhere.

Wolves made QPR’s Beale their primary target and were prepared to pay the English coach’s £1m release clause and were confident of having him in place for Sunday’s clash with Leicester, reports the Daily Mail.

However, Beale has decided to stay at QPR and help them get promoted to the Premier League.

Beale has rejected the chance to manage Wolves

Beale only took over at Loftus Road in June after leaving his post as assistant to Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and has the London club firmly in contention for promotion to the Premier League following an impressive start.

QPR currently sit top of the Championship after 15 games and it is understandable that Beale wants to take on the challenge of getting the London club promoted for the first time since 2014.

As for Wolves, the search continues as the Premier League club need to get a coach in as soon as possible as they try to avoid relegation this season.

Wolves have made QPR boss Michael Beale their number one target to fill the vacant managerial role at Molineux after sacking their former coach, Bruno Lage, earlier this month.

The Midlands club have taken their time in replacing Lage and initially had former Sevilla coach, Julen Lopetegui, as their preference to take over as manager of the club.

However, the Spaniard turned down the role due to family reasons, reports talkSPORT, and that has prompted Wolves to look elsewhere.

Three names have emerged since for the job, which are former Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, Peter Bosz and QPR’s Michael Beale and it is the QPR manager that the Premier League club have decided to approach, reports the BBC.

Wolves want Michael Beale as their new manager

Beale only took over at Loftus Road in June after leaving his post as assistant to Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and has the London club firmly in contention for promotion to the Premier League following an impressive start.

The 42-year-old stated after QPR’s win over Cardiff last night about the Wolves rumours via the BBC: “Until I hear different it is just speculation,

“When you are doing well that will come. The club have not come to me to say they have had an approach for me.”

According to the Guardian, a key factor in why Beale is likely to get the job is the fact that the Englishman can speak Portuguese.

Beale previously coached at São Paulo and that is where he learned the language, which is a big bonus for Wolves given that 11 of their first-team squad speak Portuguese as their first language.

Wolves’ hunt for a new coach is likely to heat up in the coming days and it shall be seen if it is the QPR boss or someone else.

Manchester United have officially announced the departure of young defender Ethan Laird on a season-long loan move to Queens Park Rangers.

Laird has long looked a promising young talent at Old Trafford, but it’s not been easy for him to break into the club’s first-team, so a temporary switch to somewhere like QPR looks like a good next step for his career.

The 21-year-old’s move has now been made official, as per the official Man Utd site, following his time at Bournemouth last season – a club he helped win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League before returning to his parent club this summer.

United have a proud record of promoting players from their academy, so will be hoping Laird can use this experience to come back to Manchester as a better player next season.

With so many recent signings failing for the Red Devils, they could do well to promote more homegrown talents like Laird.

Leeds United loanee Tyler Roberts will have to wait to make his competitive QPR debut as the forward is set to sit out the club’s season opener this weekend with an injury.

Roberts is set to spend the season on loan with the London club, having sealed a move to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium at the start of this month.

The 23-year-old barely had a chance to make a name for himself under Jesse Marsch last season, coming off the bench during the American coach’s first game in charge only to pick up a hamstring injury that would rule him out for the season.

Leeds have strengthened their squad significantly this summer and as a result, sent Robert out on loan to try and get regular game time in order to improve his skills.

Leeds’ Roberts will spend the season with QPR

However, Roberts has run into more bad luck after QPR boss Michael Beale confirmed he won’t play this weekend against Blackburn Rovers due to an injury.

The R’s coach stated via West London Sport: “As of today, everyone bar Tyler Roberts has trained.

“He has a slight issue that I don’t want to risk.

“He did start the week training with us but I didn’t think he looked right. It is the right call for us just to slow down and make sure he is ready.

“We thought he would be OK and although he hasn’t had a setback or re-injured it, we just think he needs a little bit more fitness so he has trained away from the group in isolation.”

This season is a big one for Roberts’ career and unfortunately, it hasn’t got off to the best of starts, although it could be much worse for the forward.
