Things aren’t looking good for League One side, Reading, both on and off the pitch.

At present, the Royals find themselves 22nd out of 24 teams in the division, with just three wins from eight games and only five points to their name thanks to a points deduction for earlier EFL breaches, per The Telegraph.

A separate report in The Telegraph also outlines how the club could be subject to their fourth winding-up order after owner, Dai Yongge, missed the deadline for another payment due to the HMRC.

It’s a far cry from when John Madejski owned the club and the stadium named after him was full to capacity week-in and week-out with the biggest and best teams in the country as the opposition on a regular basis.

If players and staff are not paid by this Friday, then there will be a further points deduction invoked, which would see Reading drop to the bottom of the table.

There will be a protest about Yongge’s ownership before their weekend fixture, but with three interested buyers reported, help could soon be at hand – if Yongge is willing to do business.

For a club with such a rich heritage, it would be a disaster for the local community if it ends up going to the wall.

League One outfit Reading have been docked three points after their owner failed to deposit enough money into an account for the club’s monthly wage bill.

That is according to the BBC, who report that the Royals owner Dai Yongge was told by the EFL in August to put 125% of the wage bill into a designated account by Tuesday. That failed to happen and it has triggered a suspended points deduction with immediate effect.

This is not the first time Reading have been docked points this year as they have lost a total of four points from their current campaign. Back in August, the Royals were deducted a point due to late wage payments.

This also follows a six-point deduction received in April for profit and sustainability rule breaches – that contributed to their relegation from the Championship to League One.

The EFL have stated that they continue to punish Reading as long as they break the rules as Chinese businessman Dai remains “committed” to the Royals and is still actively looking for new investors to help provide financial stability at the club.

This is a real worry for Reading who were in the Premier League only 10 years ago and further points deductions could be detrimental to their season.

Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea is set to return to English football as manager with Reading.

That is according to Daily Mail who claim that O’Shea is now ‘favourite’ to take the job with the Championship side.

This will see him return to Reading after having previously joined the backroom team at Reading as a first-team coach post retirement. He left the role in 2021 to pursue his UEFA pro license.

He was a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team that was so successful. He made 394 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 15 goals and assisting 23 in all competitions. He enjoyed an illustrious career at United winning 5 Premier League titles, 2 League Cups, an FA cup and the Champions League as well among other trophies.

They are currently 22nd in the Championship table and are fighting to avoid relegation. Their poor form has seen them lose 20 out of the 42 league games they have played, winning only 13 and drawing 9.

Manager Paul Ince was sacked last week following the poor form and U21 manager Noel Hunt has been appointed the interim manager until the end of the season until the club finds a long-term replacement.

Man United have moved into a 3-0 at Old Trafford in their FA Cup clash vs Reading and the third was a very impressive goal from Brazilian midfielder Fred.

After going into the break level, United stormed into a 2-0 lead in the second half with two goals in the space of four minutes from Casemiro.

That was then followed up by his countryman Fred, who scored the third goal with an outrageous flick at the near post from a Bruno Fernandes cross, which can be seen below.

Man United have stormed into a 2-0 lead in their FA Cup clash with Reading at Old Trafford and both goals came from the unusual source called Casemiro.

The Brazilian is not known for scoring goals but his two tonight were very impressive. The midfielder broke the deadlock in the match after 54 minutes and finished off a Man United move with a brilliant dink over the Reading goalkeeper.

The second was a different type of goal as Casemiro received a pass from Fred before hitting the ball from outside of the box into the bottom rigth-hand corner. Although the strike took a little deflection, the goal was still an impressive one for a defensive midfielder.

Both goals can be seen below.

Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei is edging closer to joining Championship side Reading on loan for the rest of the season.

Casadei signed for Chelsea at the start of the season from Inter Milan but has struggled to establish himself as a first-team player as of yet. It’s no shame at the age of 20, but Casadei will need to play regular senior football in order to develop as a player.

Casadei is yet to appear for Chelsea’s senior squad and it was a similar story at Inter Milan, but he’s now close to joining a new club on loan to gain some valuable experience.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea midfielder Casadei is close to joining Reading on loan for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have strengthened significantly since Todd Boehly joined the club and there’s a good chance they bring in an additional midfielder. The report claims that Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Amadou Onana are targets for Chelsea, so a new addition could push Casadei even further down the list, meaning a loan move is vital to continue his development.

Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise stunned Man United on Wednesday night at Selhurst Park by scoring an incredible last-minute free-kick but the 21-year-old never celebrated the goal and many were left wondering why?

With the game just entering added time, Olise stepped up to a free-kick 25 yards away from Man United’s goal and needed to beat Davis de Gea and a wall consisting of Casemrio, Fred and Garnacho to level the match for Crystal Palace.

The pressure never fazed the 21-year-old as he hit a stunning free-kick off the underside of the crossbar to deal United a blow heading into their huge game with Arsenal at the weekend.

After scoring a goal as such, most players would have gone crazy in their celebration, but Olise was very mute and many fans wondered why he was not celebrating the epic moment.

The right midfielder’s former Reading team-mate, defender Tom McIntyre, might have the answers.

Speaking with The Athletic back in 2021, McIntyre lifted the lid on Olise’s celebration choice and it explains last night’s mute response to his free-kick.

The Reading star said: “We’d say he’s a bit weird sometimes because when he scored goals, he sometimes wouldn’t celebrate.

“We’d be like, ‘Mike, you’ve just scored an important goal and you’re just walking back?’. What’s he doing? Then he’d play two-touch with the manager (Paunovic) in the gym, he’d win a point in that, and he’d be shouting and celebrating, but on a Saturday, he’d score a goal in front of the home end and just stand there.

“We never really worked out why. He could never give us an answer but he’s just different; a special player.”

Nottingham Forest are reportedly lining up a third signing from the Bundesliga this summer. A player from none other than the biggest bully of the bunch, Bayern Munich.

Following the acquisition of Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Mainz 05 defender Moussa Niakhate would also be joining the club. Having already loaned Dean Henderson from Manchester United, now Forest are looking to Bayern’s Omar Richards as they revolutionise their defence.

Richards averaged just over 32 minutes per appearance last season.

Richards, 24, moved to Bayern last summer from Reading on a free. A left-back by trade, Richards was competing chiefly against Canadian superstar Alphonso Davies and unsurprisingly found minutes hard to come by. Despite making 17 appearances for Bayern, that only amounted to 546 minutes in total.

According to SkySports Germany, as carried by the Metro, FC Hollywood are happy to let Richards depart for £10m, a price which is unlikely to put Nottingham Forest off. If both this and the Niakhate deal make it through, that would make it a right-back (Giuliano Biancone), left-back, central defender and goalkeeper that Steve Cook has recruited this summer. It’s a clear indication of where he believes they need to improve next season.

English football is set for a major change next season as all clubs in the top two tiers of the country can apply to operate licensed safe standing areas next season, the UK Government has said.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who also states that the Government have confirmed that Wembley will also offer limited safe standing for fans from both sets of clubs at domestic matches later in the season.

Cardiff City, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham took part in a safe standing pilot in the second half of last season and Brentford, QPR and Wolves will now join those clubs in offering designated areas for home and away fans from the start of the 2022-23 season.

Other clubs are expected to join these clubs in applying the standing as the season progresses, in what will be a momentous move for the English game.

Safe standing is returning to England

As of now, the only club that are not considering introducing safe standing for next season is Liverpool but the Reds may extend or increase their existing rail seating provision having run a separate club pilot last season reports the Daily Mail.

There has been a blanket ban on standing in the top two tiers of English football since August 1994 in the wake of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and therefore the Merseyside club’s decision is completely understandable.

Safe standing has been in operation in many countries across Europe but the most notable is Germany, where it has been very successful. There are a lot of pros and cons to standing at matches but it is something that has been talked about in England for a while now. Whether it will be a success or not can be seen next season but at least it is being tried in order to increase the atmosphere in stadiums.

Former Newcastle and West Ham striker Andy Carroll is in hot water with his fiancée Billi Mucklow after a heavy stag do went wrong.

Some pictures have emerged on social media showing Carroll in bed with two women, leading the former England international’s partner to demand he hands over everything to her.

According to the Sun, Carroll and Billi Mucklow spent the weekend in crisis talks after she exploded in fury over the photos.

Friends have been quoted as saying Billi now wants to see all the photos so she can make a better judgement about what to do next.

“It’s the only way she can move on — however bad it is,” the source said.

“Billi believed Andy and stood by him but now she doesn’t know what to think. She wants answers and they seem to be just going around in circles.

“Billi is very angry and her deleting Andy from her WhatsApp profile tells those who know her all they need to know.

“She is still sticking by him but it’s a very confusing and difficult time.”

The pair had been engaged for eight years and were booked to get married in two weeks, but that now looks in serious doubt.
